McCants going to Ravens

Post by hogred »

According to sources, the Baltimore Ravens are working on an offer sheet for another Redskins restricted free agent, wide receiver Darnerien McCants. Unlike Johnson, the loss of McCants would bring the Redskins a fifth-round pick. The Ravens have two fifth-round picks after losing out in the disputed trade for former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens. This is not good.

What sources?

We still can match the offer.

Thats good now you guys have 3 picks instead of 2, hopefully you can pick up more picks by trading down. That would only make sense

He had only 27 catches, BUT he had 6 TD's. Imagine if he caught 80-90 balls. He has to much potential, we have to match this offer.

That does make alot of sense. We need cheap labor, not college superstars.

I'll take McCants over Johnson - I know he is a big blocking back, but McCants has a better upside.

McCants is very good at getting the ball in the endzone, I dont think we would want to give that up. Lot easier to get a good fullback in the draft.

Chances are McCants will be better than a 5th rd pick.

"Chances are"... there's no chances, DMAC is better than a 5th round pick. If there is any way at all to keep him, we've got to exploit it. I mean, give up Johnson, we still have Rock and even the veteran savvy Sellers.

McCants is a budding star. Is 80 or 90 catches a realistic option. No because he is our third WR, so his reception numbers will likely stay between 45-65 over the next few years as a third wide out. But that's not what we pay him for. He's a monster in the red zone, and we can't and shouldn't let him go.

Remember Rahsad Bauman, you should because we still have him. It just so happens that if the season started today he would be our fifth corner. Why am I telling you this you ask :?: :?: Because he was our third round draft choice two years ago, and look where he is at now. We're talking about a player that's going some 60 spots later.

Come on.. BJ can leave, DMAC must stay. The heck with the 5th round choice...

Well said redskin56 - McCants has the size, speed and hands. We need position players that can make big plays when we need them and he has that ability. We just lost PJ and WR has been pretty deep for us but I don't think we can afford to lose McCants.

you gotta assume that he has shot at the #3 receiver position, as gibbs has said that each position has to be earned this offseason. though, i like mccants better at this point.

Good question and training camp should sort all that out - #4 sounds about right, if we keep McCants. Let's hope Jacobs stays healthy this year - he had some serious bad luck last year.

McCants is an extremely valuable player. They really MUST match the offer if at all possible. He's the kind of guy that will just thrive under Gibbs. He's not a prima donna, he's blue collar all the way, and he seems to be a guy of character. Anyone ever see his artwork? It's great stuff.

Like Sonny said all last year, all McCants does is catch touchdowns. This is a guy they NEED to keep. Coles, Gardner and McCants is a very solid receiving corp in my book.

hate to lose mccants, but hopefully jacobs injuries have all healed and he'll develop good.losing johnson to the CB was not all that bad IMHO.coles, gardner, jacobs, will do great and who knows we may find a diamond in the ruff on draft day or as a rookie free agent.

We already HAVE a diamond in the rough in McCants. I don't advocate keeping him "at any cost," but if we can swing it, we need to do what we can to keep him here. He makes big plays in the clutch and isn't afraid to take a hit. You can't coach that stuff.

One of the (if not the) main reason No. 1 receivers thrive in this league is because of the role the number 2's and 3's play. If 2nd and 3rd spot receivers pose a threat, like Gardner and McCants certainly do. I'm skeptical as to how well Cliff Russel, Taylor Jacobs, or our other receivers could do in that situation.

That 5th round pick shouldn't really even be part of our consideration, we've already got a winner in McCants. (As much as I love Johnson, FB's are just easier to replace than good possesion receivers).

I don't understand, maybe I just haven't seen enough of McCants... but he doesn't seem like a starter to me, I don't get the facination with him.

I think they said it would cost over 2 mil the first year if we match. I would love to keep him, but isn't that too much?

We must keep DMAC! He defintely has a ton of potential and he would be a great 3rd reciver for us! He is much more worthy then just a 5th rounder! I think we defintely will keep him! The question that rises is defintely what NC43Hog said "Where does Taylor Fit in this picture? Well he would be our 4th with the opportunity to compete for the 3rd spot! If DMAC continues to develop he could become our #2 and we could trade Gardner! Gardner had a very dissapointing season last year! He has been struggling and drops tons of balls!

Does Gardner remind anyone else just a bit of Westbr**k? Maybe without all the bragging. . .

I believe McCants himself was a fifth rounder...

I really think the team will match the offer. McCants stepped up in a big way last season, and maximized his limited oppurtunity. With Gibbs running the team, McCants can shine as the third reciever (a la Ricky Sanders). Taylor Jacobs has shown nothing (other than being a high draft pick) to indicate he is capable of carrying the load. We need to keep McCants, and I'm really not worried because I think we will.

I also believe we need to keep Johnson, but I kind of doubt we will. Before everyone starts pointing at Cartwright and Sellars as being more than capable of solidifying the fullback spot, remember that Cartwright's best moments came as a halfback last year, and Sellars was in Canada not too long ago. I really believe we are going to need Johnson, our two-year starter, at that position...
I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.
