You cant trade down and get Gaines Adams. He's a top 10 pick.

I know he is, am saying what the Redskins need to do is trade down I didnt say trade down and pick Adams. I am just voicing my opinion of who I want in the draft.

Well, don't worry. I'm sure the experts will dummy it down for you. ROTFALMAO You kill me, SJ. :)
What you're really seeing is impatience. While I agree with portions of the criticism against CP, his ability is beyond reproach. Maybe we can become the sort of team that can fully exploit his talents. Maybe our age-old identity is unshakeable, and we have to have a bruiser rather than a scatter.
Maybe we can find middle ground, like the Giants have done with Barber/Jacobs.
Whatever it is, though...the tug-of-war must end. We have to settle on a philosophy and stick with it.
Is trading CP the answer? I don't think so. There's a place on any team for a guy like him. My feeling is... don't try the use the same hammer for every job.

Clinton is the heart and soul of our offense. No, no, and....no.

Yeah he only posted the highest single season rushing yardage in Redskins history last year. And 1300 yards the year before.

What a bum! Lets get rid of him!

I don't believe anyone thinks he's not a super player. The point is -- if we were the GM (we'd certainly be better than Vinnie) and we didn't have a cap (which we do) -- could we improve our team by trading Clinton?

I think we could improve our overall team by doing that. That doesn't mean I don't love his play, style, heart, blocking, etc...

With Betts and TJ we have the kind of runners Gibbs liked and had the first time through DC. While we lose quite a bit from our running back position, versus having Clinton, we'd pick up someone else that would improve another part of our team.

IMO -- football is about line play and the QB. You need to have a few skill players, e.g., RBs, WR's, CBs to win. However, you must have solid line play and a QB that is not losing the game to be a playoff team. Do I think our other skill players are good enough to take us to the playoffs (without Clinton) -- YES I do. So, adding another lineman would only improve our team.

I think those posters who are against trading Clinton immediately assume the pro-trading posters don't like him, or think he's not a good player, OR want to blame him for our lousy season so far. In fact, I'd say it's the opposite, we realize how good he is and how much trade value he has AND we feel good that Ladell and TJ could carry the RB job.

By the way -- I wouldn't give him away, I'd want a lot in return!

I don't know if you are watching the falcons game, but it has definitely solidified my point. Betts has the ability to read blocks and therefore be more consistent in sustaining drives. Portis gives you one 50 yard run and then often gets 1 or 2 yarders the rest of the day due to impatience. He was better in DENVER because they have a quicker blocking scheme and quicker blockers, that the redskins can't keep up with.

One key play reminded me of this thread and as to why we should not trade Portis.

Early in the third quarter today, Campbell dropped back to pass and gets CRUSHED from behind but I believe he still completes the pass.

Who was blocking? Betts.

Portis would have picked up that block. Enough said.

Only because you want it to.

Betts got phenomenal blocking against Atlanta.

Portis gives you one 50 yard run and then often gets 1 or 2 yarders the rest of the day due to impatience.

Really? His longest run this year was a 38 yarder. Then a 34 yarder. Then a 30 yarder. Then 15 yarders.

On the only day he got more than 25 carries (against Jacksonville), his longest carry was 15 yards. He still had 112 yards.

His longest run in 2005 was 47 yards. The next longest was a 41 yarder. Then after that? A 31 yarder, then a 23 yarder. Against Dallas in week 15, he had 23 carries for 112 yards, longest carry was 19 yards. The next week against the Giants, he had 27 carries for 108 yards, longest carry also 19 yards.

That looks like consistent production to me. But maybe I'm just crazy.

Just as a comparison, LaDanian Thomlinson, has runs of 58, 51, 51, 44, 41 this year. However, I consider him pretty consistent. If you think Portis is an inconsistent back, you must also think LT is as well. Perhaps the best runningback in your mind is one that is a threat to go 10 yards at most?

frankcal20 wrote:Betts and Duckett are only here this year unless the get a contract extension. As for our 1st round pick, there are certain conditions that won't allow that to happen. One being that Adams will probably go in the top 10. We are probably going to win out, and lastly, we have an issue with Denver about flopping our 1st round picks depending on who finishes better or something like that.

As much as I don't mind the idea, Its just not reality. I've been wondering if Portis was the "Unnamed Player" in the ESPN Article. Sometimes he just seems to be a bit selfish when he isn't getting the attention but who knows.

Personally I did a process of elimination. Offense no, they don't interact with the D and the secondary meetings to know that. It had to be someone on the defensive side of the ball. So lets go to the defensive side.
Carter- NO he is new and doesn't know the history, Danials I doubt it, Salavae no he is always happy and upbeat, Griffin no he is shy. Lemar no he is happy for his oppurtunity, Marcus no he is always positive, Holdman no way he shouldn't even be in the league much less starting, he has nothing to complain about. Backups no, and not only that it would have to be someone that interacts with the secondary and knows what goes on in meetings. So lets go to the secondary, Jimoh no he is happy about were he is, Rumph haha, the other backups probably not. Rogers possibly but he didn't know what went on the first year. Taylor (he doesn't talk to anyone period). Adam maybe but he doesn't know the history so I eliminated him (even though he isn't the starter anymore). I think its Springs he played for diffrent coaches before coming here (so he knows other coaches and how they do things, Holmgrens and the guy before Mike when he was at Seattle). He was here since Joe Gibbs came back, and knows everything that went on in the secondary since Greg has been here, so I think its him.

Amen, Betts is simply NOT the caliber of all-around back that Portis is ... the idea of trading him is ludicrous

What happens when Ladell gets hurt? He has never not missed a game, and that is in a career in which he's never been a feature-back? I love the way he plays thought his 155-yard effort yesterday was sterling but this is the kind of stuff that makes me lose respect for Redskins fans.

A healthy Portis is a top-5 rusher in football, and as Jake said he does everything. Block, chase down db's after interceptions and make big tackles, dresses up in strange outfits to boost morale. Players like him come along once ever 20 or so years. Trading him would greatly weaken this team.

I would have to disagree on being a top 5 back, Alexander, Tiki, Lt, Larry JOhnson, Rudi Johnson, Edgehe's not that good this year but he also has no line to speak of, I would say top ten but not top 5. I am not saying we should trade Portis I just don't think he is a top 5 back.

We are not trading Portis - this is just an exercise in futilty
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Really. I'm with ya.

Listen a... no offense... but a... well... just an idea... but a... I really think they should add one more category or 'forum' to the message board... the "What the hell were they thinking?" or the "Are you '*!$;furious;#@!' serious???"

My 2 cents
