For anyone who thinks we're not still in it, look at the records in our division! Now we have the tie breaker over Carolina & when we beat Falcons & the Saints we'll have it over them too. Then to finish off the season we can wipe the floors with the Giants & take the spot they think they have!

Correct me if I am wrong, but to my knowledge, if we finish with the same record as the Giants, they will own the tie-breaker by virtue of the better division record correct?

Sadly, it seems that our best chance is to hope that the Pukes win the division and that Minny, Philly San Fran, all finish 8-8 or worse..in that scenario, we would ...its not far fetched since we play Philly, Atl, Rams, and Saints but most importantly, we have to win out.

I believe.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

Listen, I really understand that thinking about the playoffs is fun and gives us all a sense of hope and something to look forward to. It's one game though. This team as well as us fans need to take every game one at a time and they need to start building something for NEXT year. Jason campbell continuing to grow is the single most important thing for the longterm success of this team. If they win, great, if they lose, oh well. Let's see this team play like they did yesterday against a desperate Atlanta team and let's see our offense put it to a gutless Eagles defense and get to .500 before we even look at the playoff standings. Campbell has given us hope. IF what he has shown is a sign of things to come, then there will be plenty of postseasons to come for this guy and our team.

I'm not trying to be a killjoy, just don't want to see some of us want to bomb redskins' park if they slip up a few more times before the season is over.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

i don't disagree with anything that you are saying. However, I don't think that you can give up hope when you still have any shot at the playoffs. Even if we win out and don't make the cut it will have a huge advantage in terms of momentum, offseason ridicule, coaching change rumors, etc.

We have to be thinking and trying to win out. If Joe's records after three years are 6-10, 10-6, and 9-7, then he has become the first coach ince norv to stay three seasons, and the first to have a winning record. Thats huge.....well its huge to me.

Agree. If they get on a roll and win out great but I am more interested in seeing Jason develop a rapport with the receivers and continue to mature for next year.

Don't misunderstand me and I'm sorry if I came off differently. I'm all for going 9-7 but I really am passed getting upset if they lose. I want to see true improvement and then like you say, get some of these haters off this team's back.

OK. So the team needs to play one game at a time or maybe even one snap at a time. We fans need to be cool with the loss(es) we will probably suffer. However ... WE THE FANS can dream.

Let's assume we win out and that the Cowboys beat the Giants this week. Then to keep us out here's what other teams would have to do to stay ahead of us.

Giants: would have to sweep @Carolina, Philly, and the Saints.

Philly: would need to sweep Carolina, @Giants, @Dallas, and Atlanta.

Vikings: would need to go 4-1 @Chicago, @Detroit, Jets, @Green Bay, and Rams.

Carolina: would need to go 4-1 @Philly, Giants, Steelers, @Atlanta, and @Saints.

49ers: would need to go 4-1 @Saints, Green Bay, @Seattle, Arizona, @Denver.

If we win out (BIG IF) I actually like our chances.

OK, this is kind of crazy, but lets ignore the records, and compare this year after week 12 with last year after week 12. The bottom line is if the 'skins win their next two games, which are eminently winnable games, things might look surprisingly good for their chances on making the playoffs.

This year, the skins are 4-7, two games behind wild card leaders NY Giants and Carolina Panthers, each at 6-5. 5 teams are in between at 5-6 -- Philly, Minnesota, Atlanta, St. Louis, and San Francisco. Green Bay has not played, but would be 5-6 with a win. We'll assume they lose since they are big underdogs to the Seahawks tonight.

Last year, the skins were 5-6, 2 games behind three teams at the top of the wild card chase, Giants, Atlanta, and Tampa Bay, each at 7-4. There was just one team in between -- 6-5 Minnesota.

cleg - How 'bout if we can have our cake and eat it too? Let's have "JC and the Sonshine Band [of Receivers]" develop that rapport deep into the playoffs. Heck, we might even be the team to beat next year (since we could be holding the Lombardi). What say you?

If we win our last 5 games, and yes I realize how crazy that sounds, we will make the playoffs. The NFC is down this year compared to last year and 9-7 would most likely get us in. Remember that our last 5 games are all NFC games and they are all against teams that are also in the mix for the same playoff spots, so if we won our last 5 games we'd hold tiebreakers on just about everybody, including Carolina.

If we beat Atlanta Sunday and Philadelpia next week, the Redskins will start showing up on those television graphics for the "Playoff Picture."

Let's just get by the Falcons this week and see what happens around us.

But those teams have probelms and they are starting to have them now. we get hot now then a wild card is our for the taking. And that fact taht we play all NFC teams and that none of them are div leaders, we can own the wild card.

I cannot understand this at all! Sorry, but I want to see my team win. I'd rather us win out and have a chance at the playoffs than to get a top 5 pick.

Personally, I want the Redskins to get the 32nd (and last) place in ALL the Drafts from now on.

Call me a masochist.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

True enough. Also, it's not how high a pick you have but how intelligent a pick you make with it.
