Are any of you guys worried
Are any of you guys worried that by giving up so many draft picks the last two years, might hurt the Skins in years to come. Say in 2006

nope, as long as we're doing it for young talent. if we were still in the mode of signing/trading for old guys (deion, smith, etc.) i would worry. but coles is what, 26? portis is 23? as long as snyder can keep reworking contracts, the skins should be fine.
that being said, at some point i think they'll need to rely on the draft for talent again. i don't think they can keep this up forever.

I'm not worried about giving up the picks...because I think we're gonna have proven players instead of "gambling" on college players in the draft. The only thing I am worried about in 2006 is the salary cap. Hopefully, it'll go up a ton so we're not gonna be too hurt by it.

why are Cowboys fans stuck on 2006? I have heard "2006" from like 10 Starfish fans.
What the hell is supposed to happen in 2006?
Let me guess, 1 month after the Redskins win the Super Bowl the free agent signing period will begin and Snyder and Ceratto will restructure big contracts of our stud players, and those that are expendable will be cut to free up cap space/relief....JUST LIKE EVERY SEASON.
I am not really thinking about 2006. Like Joe Gibbs and the entire team I am thinking about September 2004.

Yes, I agree. The NFL is a “win now” league. I really don't care about 2006 now. If Coach brings in another trophy(s) in the next two years, the Skins will probably purge the roster and rebuild around a core of hard working guys. This is the way it works in the NFL these days. Evidence the Seagles, what happened to their FO plans that do not include giving large bonuses to players over 30?
They want to win now. The truth is the 'Skins have bucked traditional FO methods and have come up with what I believe to be a solid plan that may or may not work. At the very least Snyder/Cerrato and Co. have stuck to their guns in the face of rampant criticism from so called experts. Each NFL season there is one team that does it right and 31 teams that fail. Let's hope the 'Skins are doing it right.

I am worried about our neglect of the draft. I dont feel we will be hurt too bad if we can have solid drafts in '05 and '06. I am sure Samuels wont be back after '05. That would save us about 8 million on the '06 cap. I am worried about having the money to re-sign Smoot, Ramsey, and Dockery. The draft picks I hated to lose were the ones for those dlineman that did nothing last year(Dalton, Chase etc) and the one we shipped to Denver for Clinton. Over the last few seasons Dallas hasnt drafted good players with the exception of Dat, Roy, Witten, and Newman. I thought Gurode has been a bust along with Mario E, Antonio Bryant, and most of all QC.
Death to all things remotely BLUE and SILVER!!!!!!!!!!! Hail Skins
nah not really cause these last 11 years have been so great thus far.but seriously i,m really not that concerned cause we are a revolving door from year to year anyways.in one way out the other way.two years from now who knows for sure.
doesn,t do me any good to worry about it cause i really can,t do anything about it to begin with.what happens in 2006 happens then but for right now i,m getting ready for 2004.

The Redskins trading of draft picks for players won't last long. With the salary cap, the only way to have long term success is to draft well. You need the young cheap labor for backups and special teamers. If they keep replacing draft picks with guys who are making 2 or 3 times more than that draft pick would have made, they are really going to be in trouble in a few years.

Why 2006? If I understand it correctly, that is the year that the TV contrct is reworked and it SHOULD bump the cap up. If Snyder is as shrewd a business man as is rumored, he is counting on that to defray the potential cap hits due in 2006. I could be mistaken....

Does Heath Schuler, Michael Westbrook ring a bell...just to name a few...??? I think journeymen with a few years under their belts are the way to go, though I agree with curveball (yeah, I know) that it's a more costly route to go. I think that once Gibbs gets this team whipped back into shape, we can look forward to getting more draft picks in the years to come.
