we cant loose McCants

Post by skins#1fan »

I think if for some reason we loose McCants that could be one of the biggest mistakes that would kill us in the long run. The guy is a stud, he has the size and the will to catch passes over the middle. He is an animal in the redzone and would become an even better player with gibbs runnin the show. I mean as good as he is he will be lined up against some linebackers and # 3 corners and I dont think any linebackers or # 3 corners can handle him at all. WE HAVE TO KEEP HIM

I agree; with that Trio of Gardner Coles and McCants, and Gibbs coaching them we could have the best receiving Core in the League.

If we make one more move this offseason it must be resigning McCants.

i agree we should make a great effort to keep him..but we all know how this buisness works. sometimes we just cant keep players we want.. and since none of us get to make those dissisions, we will just have to put our faith in gibbs to do what he thinks is best for the team....

Sometimes you have to wonder what the Front Office knows that we don't. I think we all see McCant's ability, and yet he's still unsigned. We always seem to let our good players go. It's hard to keep liking a player, since next year he might not be here (see Fred Smoot) a guy who played his heart out this year.

McCant's did well with "limited" play...imagine what he could do with a solid amount of playing time. He's awesome and a good guy too !! I really hope we sign him.

cjpck44, actually, i think the way it works with restriced free agents is that the skins can make mccants a tender offer (which they did), but mccants is free to negotiate with other teams. if he signs with say, dallas, the skins have the chance to match the deal. if they do, he's theirs. if not, he goes to dallas. if he doesn't sign an offer sheet, then when the free agency period ends (a week prior to the draft i think??? someone help me out....) mccants is property of the redskins at the price stated in the tender offer (which are prearranged standard salaries).

bottom line, if no other team expresses interest in mccants, since we've made him a tender offer, he's ours.

Pretty much Doughnut Joe...

DMAC is rare in that we sniffed him out, at tiny little Delaware State. We drafted him to wear burgundy and gold, or at least compete for a roster spot. At first it was expected he wouldn't make it, then he solidified himself as a special teamer or practice squad guy. They year before last, he was one of the guy's that was always inactive. We all know what happened last year. Let's just say Mr. Redzone broke out...

Fact of the matter is, DMAC is ours. We groomed him. We can't say that about Laveranues, Clinton, or 70% of the other players on this roster. We scouted him, we gave him the chance no one else would, and he has thrived with ever opportunity. It's time we fianlly do what we have to do to keep "our guy" around. I trust that Gibbs will do that with this Delaware State Hornet, or else he's bound to end up stinging us in the future...

Was it corny yes... Did I feel better for doing it... ABSOLUTELY!!!

dmac strikes me as the exact type of player that gibbs likes-underdog, hard worker, believes in himself even if no one else does. i'd be very surprised if gibbs let him get away.

The man will be staying. If Joe knows anything he recognises whole hearted talent when he sees it. I think the front office is just trying to find out what he is worth so we don`t overpay.

There is a lot of interest coming from the Ravens according to the Ravens posts on baltimoresun.com. They are really jonesing for a WR. It's written he has talked with the Ravens and being a local MD boy (Odenton/Arundel area) doesn't hurt. Also the Raisins still have some cap $. But I agree with everyone here - He is a KEEPER!

Go to www.baltimoresun.com, Ravens football, talk about it and check out the thread. Just keep in mind the posters there really suck - very anti-'Skins..... Actually very anti-everything but the Raisins. Blue collar town with a no collar attitude. Baltimore the city that bleeds.....

I like McCants too. He's a solid player and always seemed like a good guy during his interviews on JFK last season. I'd hate to lose him.

We do have some talent at WR though and we're talking about the #3 receiver spot here. At least if we lose McCants we have guys like Taylor Jacobs and Cliff Russell waiting to step in there. It won't be the end of the world.

I understand the restricted free agent thing. I just would like to see our front office be a little more proactive and sign our players before their contracts are up. It's cheaper that way. And I just like to keep pulling for my team and my favorite players. I have pictures of Darrell Green and posters over the last 20 years, you know? It was nice to have those guys always there.

And before anyone says that's not the way the league is anymore, that's not true. The better teams always lock up their up and coming talent early.
