The Skins are the most underrated team in football.
Everyday, I have to here about how Dan Snyder does this wrong, and Joe Gibbs has been out of the game for this long, and how whenever the redskins sign a player they flop. I then read the Eagles' website and they talk about how good Dallas will be next year. Nobody looks at us as a threat, but if you really look closely, The redskins are alot better than anyone says they are.
QB: We have two very capeable QB's with two different styles.
We have the veteran scrambler who's career is coming to a close, and we have have the young QB who may be tougher than any QB in the league (with the exception of Favre and McNair) with the oustanding arm. Either way at QB we are set.If Ramsey cant get the job done or gets injured Brunell will come in. The same goes for Brunnell. Not to mention, Hasselbeck who played O.K when Ramsey went down.
RB: At RB we may have the best RB in the League. Portis can has speed power in elusiveness. Butthat is not all. Betts is a very solid backup. Think back to two ears ago. He finished the season with 100 yard games against our last two opponents. We have Morton who is great on draw plays, trick plays, and anything else for a speed back.
FB: Johnson may be gone, but if he does we will still have Cartwright. He is very powerful and when you get down to those shortyardage situations, pound the rock (literally) Mike Sellars will be a good backup.
WR: We may hve one of the best receiving cores in the league. We all know Coles is a BEAST, BUT LOOK AT EVERYONE ELS. Gardner had 1000 two years ago, an I believe ge can excell in Joe Gibbs' system. In Steve Spurrier's system There was no room for a possesion receiver to do very well. In Gibbs' systm there is look at Art Monk (not saying that Gardner will ever be as good as monk, Im just saying that they have the same boy type. McCants is very solid ( I hope we match his offer sheet) Jacobs has Raw talent and the same goes for Cliff Russell, and dont forget about Scott Cloman.
TE we have some good blockers, Chamberlin will be good if he gets in shape. Royal will be good if he can get healthy (Still hoping that we draft Winslow though)
O line: Everyone says our O line sucked last year; I think it was because of our scheme and our O line Coach. We have good talent. Any QB will be sacked if you have Trung Cadidate blocking Simeon Rice.
D line: This may be our only problem, but it is still a great improvement fromlast year. Noble will return, and I hope he starts next to Griffin. If Upshaw can get to top form, and Daniels can step up we willbe good here.
LB: We have one of the best LB cores hands down. Washington is coming into his prime, Arrington is the bet OLB in the game, and Troter will reagain his form. Remember he was coming off of an a year where he tore his ACL. Every plyer in the league struggles coming off of that injury, and the next year, they do better than ever. Look at Jamal Lewis. We have good backups with Mitchell and Marshall, and we will sign one more (Short, Favors, Holdman)
CB: We are very deep hre. Smoot will make the Pro Bowl next year, and Springs is very good when he is healthy. Harris is a Starter playing nickle back. Bauman and Brown are nickle backs who will be dime backs.
S: We will probably draft Taylor, Bowen is a hard hitter, Ohalete is also very solid. We also have good young Backups with Franz and Lott.
KR/PR: Morton is very fast and talented; I hope we bring back Brian Mitchell to mentor him.
K Hall brings stability that we have not had in recent years.
p: Tupa is an accurate punter who is also a threat to throw one.

I agree that the Skins have excellent talent...on paper. This is not unusual for this team. What happens year in an year out (in the past), however, is that the coaches [or lack thereof] were unable to bring out the best in their players.
Consequently, each year, notwithstanding the talent that they did have...the Skins fielded a mediocre team, at best.
In 2004, this will change. With Gibbs and Co., we fans will finally start seeing the talent "on paper" becoming talent "on the field". I have no doubt that we have "real coaches" this year...and those coaches will bring out the best in our players.
Coaching is one of this team's best off-season acquisitions. Mix that with the talent "on paper" that we have.....and the 2004 Washington Redskins will be quite a formidable team...and worthy of taking notice.

I agree with Justice Hog's assessment on coaching. Not that I like Bill Parcells, but one has to respect what he did last year with Quincy Carter. I guess, if he were to win a Superbowl with him, he'd be 1/3 of the way to catching up with Gibb's outstanding record with different QBs. Hail, baby, hail.

Great post RSFan16-0, but like JH said, our team always looks good on paper. I still think our Defense will suffer because of our horrible D-Line. I'm hoping that DMac gets traded for a 2nd or 3rd round pick because we really need a pass rushing DE and there are some good ones that can be found in those rounds. Pick 5 needs to be Sean Taylor.

Are team does always look good on paper, but look at our usual problems discipline (comes from coaching) making smart decisions (comes from coaching) not commiting stupid penalties (also coaching).
Now that we have (in my oppinion) the greatest coach ever. We will have a great team.

Ray is better; I meant that he is the best Outside Linebacker

I got this from a fan site:
[quote Big (6-3, 210) and physical, Monk was a wide receiver in a tight end's body. Unable to dazzle anybody with his speed, he became a route-running technician who would go outside or inside with fearless defiance. Nobody was more consistent on medium routes over the middle, football's no-man's land of broken ribs and shattered careers. Third down and other key situations belonged to Monk, who turned cornerbacks around with his quick moves and long, graceful stride. He also was adept at positioning his large body to seal off smaller defensive backs before gathering the ball.]
Gardner is 6'2'' and weighs 217, that is pretty close, that is pretty close. Gardner also does not have great speed, and I expect Joe Gibbs to use him like he used Art Monk. I also expect him to use Coles like he used Gary Clark, they both had 1000 yards almost every year.[/quote]

thank you very much.. and as excited as i was for next season.. i just got even more.. our Wr core has a long threat and a good posesion style reciever.. Seems already to be a fearsome offense with the weapons we have. If we get the line to play as well as it can i think we could have one of the better offenses in the league even without K2
If Roddy is to be Joe's new Monk, he's going to have change the way he sees his job. It will never be about who is the #1 or the #2, and he will have to become adept at jamming up the blitzing saftey. He'll also have to be able to hold on to the ball in big traffic, and be willing to risk his career to get just one more yard by drilling the defender.
Is he ready to do all that ?

I think he is ready and capeable. The fact that Gibbs has said that every poition will be a competition, will make him raise his level of play. In Steve Spurrier's system he was a lock to start. Now that people are so high on McCants, and he was, almost traded to San Fran. he will know, that if he does not play to the best of his ability he will be out of here.
The question with the number 1 or 2 receiver wont matter, because in Gibbs' system (unlike Spurrier) the 2nd receiver can put up as good of numbers as the first.
Of course he may never be as good as Monk, but he could turn out being a very good receiver

That isn't what I meant. Let me try again, for the sake of getting your opinion on my position.
Monk was a selfless individual who risked it all on RAC. He wouldn't just make the catch and go down. Nope, he'd drill the defender square in the chest to get another half yard. After the play, he'd toss the ball back to the official and get back to the huddle. No "first down" gestures, no nothing.
There's been a plethora of converted TE types before, during and after Monk. There's only been one Monk, though.
Is Gardner ready to sacrifice his own numbers and body for his team ? Not "can he", but "will he " ?

I think he will be that unselfish person to sacrafice his numbers, but really we will have to just wait and see. He probably will still have the First Down signal, and the Touchdown celebrations, but if he is making the big plays when we need them let him do whatever he wants.
There is only one Monk, and No body can replce him, Not Gardner, Coles, McCants or any other receiver we will ever have.

I think you have Coles as Clark as stated, Gardner/McCants/Cloman are all of the Monk style possession receivers, and then you have Russell/Jacobs for the Sanders style stretch the defense WR.
I personally am excited about this offense.
Just gotta get a hold of Gibbs and tell him not to draft Taylor (just tweaking alla the Taylor fans - calm down

Anyways, I don't think we are underrated, people just like to see us fail.
JEALOUSY, people are intimidated by an owner that will sacrifice it all to try to improve his team (with moderate success).
Sounds like Jerry Jones doesn't it!!! However down with the C-boys

This is the second time someone has mentioned Coles a being similar to Clark...How? Clark was something like 5'8 I thought and Coles is something like 6' something. Clark never had any real speed so he opted for shorter speedier routes. Most of his were like Monks...short. Monk however could go long on occasion. We had other receivers to go long. We never had a Coles or anyone with his speed.

When Clark came out he was a speedier receiver, but he ran most of the normal routes a lot of smaller #1 WR run.
You will notice I pointed out the Ricky Sanders clones - Jacobs/Russell.
Coles is an upgrade to Clark, that is true, but Clark was an excellent WR. By the way - Coles is 5'11"
