You mean Timmy Smith. I don't think he's been in the league since that time. I think he might have signed with Dallas the next year.

Back in '88 I was living in Dallas working at my first job out of college. A buddy and I used to go out on the weekends and while out one day, I looked over and who would I see but Timmy Smith. I spoke with him briefly and congratulated him on a tremendous game. He was a soft spoken and laid back.

He attended college in Texas, Texas Tech I believe. As I recall, during the '89 season he didn't come back in the kind of shape that he needed to be in. I thought his career ended after that season.

The Skins gave Timmy Smith every opportunity to succeed and he never did anything. He wasn't strong mentally or physically and was never able to repeat that performance of the SB. Dallas gave him a shot and I believe he was cut after 2 games. He did try to come back again in 89,90 but never caught on with a team. Hey consider yourself lucky that you have a SB ring, a lot of great running backs would kill for that privilige. :P

i was watching some old tapes the other day (i was having serious withdrawl symptoms), and i was laughing at the old shoulder pads that were super wide and had almost pointed ends. ricky ervins pads seemed especially pronounced, and given his short stocky frame, he looked like a little superhero. it was very amusing.

We had a couple guys on my High School team that were being scouted by USC. Ricky Ervins and Todd Maranovich came to one of our games. I got his autograph, then he was picked up by the Skins the next year. He was fun to watch.

Ricky's a great guy.

I met him at the ken Harvey event last year and we were very fortunate to have him spend some time with us when everybody had gone home.

he is still in awesome physical condition -- that's his job nowadays. He owns a company called Xtreme Xplosion and does personal training. There are some pictures of Ricky in the photo section in the Ken Harvey Forum.

Hello everybody ! 1rst : Yeah, I'm french. 2nd : Yeah, I love football. 3rd : Yeah, That makes me a curious animal on this little planet. That's all, now ya know who I am !

About Timmy Smith : What a curious career ! so high under the lights of SuperBowl and so down one year later...

He played 14 games for the Redskins during the season which followed the SB. His stats : 155 att, 470 yards for a Y/A of 3.0. 3 TDs. And fired. I think the SB has been THE day for him. It seems that he simply wasn't a top RB in the NFL.
He later tried to come back in 1990 for the Dallas CowBoys but he just played 1 game (6 att, 6 yards) before they cut him. Nothin' else... But his name will stay (for long ?) in the SuperBowl history due to his 204 rushing yards record !

PS : excuse me for my poor english...
PPS : I know, it's not cool for ya to learn something 'bout football history by a french guy (hehehe...)
PPPS : Timmy Smith's history could be an exemple for us : Nothing's sure in our lives. We can be on top one day and so (down ? deep ? HELP ME !) the other one.
PPPPS : EL-WAY ! EL-WAY ! EL-WAY ! EL-WAY (???!!!)
PPPPPS : I like the RedSkins !

Welcome Nicolas, your right about Tim Smith early in the 88 season, the 1st or 2nd game, He ran for over 100 yards and never did anything again. I was trying to remember who took his place as starter that year any Help?

Kelvin Bryant, then Jamie Morris.. ugh. Kelvin played great but got hurt (of course), and Jamie had 1 great game at the end of the year but didn't exactly run as well as his brother.

7-9 after a super bowl year, the lack of a running game hurt a lot, defense was leaky, and special teams were the worst of the Gibbs era. A good running game would have made the last two problems less of an issue.

Hello ev'rybody ! Nick "Stats' Master" is back...

To complete Davef answer 'bout 88 and 89 skins rushin' season, I'd like to give skin-to-the-bones more informations : during 88 season, three RB were used : Timmy Smith, with stats I gave ya on my first message, Kelvin Bryant (10 games, 108 rushes, 498 yards, 4.6 avg, 1 TD) and Jamie Morris (16 G, 126 r, 437 y, 3.5 avg, 2 TDs). NFL rank : 25 for rushing att and yards, 26 for avg and tds. Poor ! notably when we see passing rank, (1rst for TDs, 2 for att, comp and yards...and 25 for interceptions - hmmm -!!!

For the 89 season, RB were Earnest Byner, Jamie morris and Gerald Riggs. If you want the stats for this year, ask me, I'll give ya !
