Eagles Game

Post by cleg »

The sportstalk radio here in Philly is predicting a "get healthy" type win for the Eagles - you know, when they come out and crush the other team to prove to everyone they are still an elite team. You'd expect to have them say the Iggles will win but come on, they are 4-4. This is the reason I hate Eagles fans so much, they have no sense that they've never proven anything. They act as if their team is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now, I have real concerns about this game but I think it is winnable. If we can control Westbrook we'll win the game. If not, we will lose, its pretty much that simple.

I have been living in Philly since 2001 and really do enjoy the city. I have become a Phillies fan and have a passing interest in the Sixers - but two weeks each year it totally sucks to live here.

Let's hope the Eagles players feel that way, like they can simply come out and crush us! I agree, this game is winable. . .but we are certainly underdogs--especially since they're coming off the extra week's rest.

Sorry about your living situation this week. . .that can't be very fun :)

With the way the Eagles offense has been playing its past several games, they're gonna crush us?

Yeah, right.

The Eagles are not an elite team. They are 4-4 despite playing an extremely easy schedule. They haven't even beaten a team with a winning record yet. I have no idea why the media is so infatuated with them.

They will finish the year 8-8.

The media - try every punk frat boy drunk here in Philly. They think this team is going to the Super Bowl, they honestly do.

I personally think the Eagles are going to beat us on Sunday (I know, I know, but I'm a big believer in home teams coming off bye weeks and teams having letdowns after emotional wins) but Philly isn't even close to the elite team they were in years past. They are an absolutely mediocre football team. Look at their schedule to close the season. Honestly, me calling for them to go 8-8 is generous. They still have to go on the road against Indy, Wash, Dal, and NYG and play host to the Panthers and Falcons. If we do manage to pull the upset, it's not unrealistic at all to say that Philly could finish the year 6-10. They really aren't that good. It's just our luck that we have to go to Philly when they are off a bye and desperate for a win.

This whole playing teams on the road off their bye thing is getting really, really old.

A closer look at the Eagles 7-0 record coming off a bye week.

1. In 1999, they beat the eventual super bowl champions, the St. Louis Rams in week 17. This was a meaningless game for the Rams since they had already clinched home field for the playoffs.
2. In 2000, the Eagles beat the lowly Cincinatti Bengals in week 17, whose QBs were Scott Mitchell and Akili Smith and ended up finishing 4-12.
3. In 2001, the Eagles barely beat the Giants 10-9. The Giants ended up finishing the season 7-9.
4. In 2002, the Eagles defeated the eventual super bowl champions Buccaneers (12-4) 20-10 (whom they later lost to in the NFC championship game)
5. In 2003, the Eagles defeated the Buffalo Bills (6-10)
6. In 2004, the Eagles beat the Carolina Panthers (7-9), 30-10.
7. In 2005, the Eagles beat the San Diego Chargers (7-9) 20-17. The Eagles won the game when the Chargers attempted to take a 7-point lead but a 40-yard field goal attempt was blocked and Matt Ware returned it 65 yards for a TD, leading to the final score 20-17.

I think the Redskins have a decent shot to end this streak if the Eagles do not play their A game.
