Attention all Hognosticators

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Attention all Hognosticators

Post by BossHog »

Everything is back up and running with the Hognostications again, so you can go ahead and enter your picks for week 10 in the picksheet in the pool section. i will extend the deadline for pick entries this week until Saturday at 6pm. Any picks not received before then will not be entered.

We apologize for last week's mess up but there wasn't much we could do about it.

And here's what we're going to do about last week's results:
1) Too many people DIDN'T get their picks in (compared to the weekly norm), so last week's results will NOT count in the final standings and we will NOT be entering all the picks from last week either.
2) HOWEVER, last week's results will now become the FIRST tie breaker at the end of the year.... meaning... if two guys finish even at the top at the end of the year, the one who had the better record in the week of results we threw out will win. If they had the same record in that week... tie breaker goes back to best winning .pct.
3) When the pool is finished, and we've posted the final results at the end of the year, we may go back and enter the picks for week 9 if we have time. That way those that DID enter their picks last week will get to see an accurate yearly record.

Anyway... get your picks in this week because they definitely WILL count towards the final standings no matter what.

Thanks for your patience.

Remember, as posted in the other thread, you are responsible for re-posting your picks in the Hognostications interface. It will not be done for you, so if you want credit, be sure to make your picks in the Hognostications section.

I told everyone before they even made their picks last week that that's what would likely happen.

You have a more fair solution?

Not to complicate matters, but what if, at the end of the season, everyone gets to throw out their worst week? That way, if you had a great week last week, it counts. If you missed it, it doesn't. (Or if you were an idiot and missed a deadline!)

Obviously, it's easy for me to suggest--I don't have to tabulate and keep track of all this stuff!

I don't see that as being more fair, I just see it as being a lot more work.

That'd be why I told everyone last week that unless pretty much everyone that picks every week made their picks, then the week's results would be thrown out in all likelihood.

And only about 35 people made their picks last week compared to about 50 on average... so the decision to throw out the picks was pretty easy.

The software doesn't have the means to 'eliminate' the worst week and I see no reason to create the workload of manually tabulating the data, sorry. It would also mean entering all of last week's picks this weeks as well as this weeks, and it would also be rewarding someone who had not made their picks some other week when there was no reason not to.

I'll go out on a limb and say that wbbradb missed a week of picks already and his solution would fix that, am I right?

Last week's are still out except in a tie breaking situation. :-)

Oh, did that happen?

I don't want to make more work for you, honest, but I do want to raise my season standings!

Oh well, using it as a tiebreaker's fine.

Boss I was just kidding around man.

If the software doesn't work, it doesn't work. What can you do about it? It's not like it's your fault.

It's no big deal.

Sorry for the confusion.

I actually give you full marks for the attempt.

I'm fond of a particular saying though, 'you can't snow the snowman.'

Like I said, I'm just doing what I think is the most fair for everybody. (not just for wbbradb)

35 picks in so far, you have until 6pm today. All picks received after that will not be posted in the pool.

Those that entered your picks, make sure that they were entered.

Thanks.
