Post by McMVP »

I was under the assumption that as long as Synder was the owner of the Skins...he would spend and spend and spend....but still get nowhere. He always had to have his hands in the kitchen screwing up the coach's recipe.

But now with Gibbs back I don't think that will be the case. Snyder is still spending like crazy, but now for players that a 'proven' leader wants.

Congrats on getting Gibbs back....you guys hve to be thrilled! It's a different game today than it was when he was around before (salary cap/FA). But I'm sure Gibbs can handle it as good (if not better) than most. He's a winner...and as classy as they come....

McMvp, a lot of fans in DC were having the same assumptions before Gibbs returned to the fold...and yeah, folks are thrilled because you could immediately see the future of the team in a clearer light.

Enjoy your time here on thehogs.net, respect given is respect returned...but we still have no love for Philly. Take it easy...

So what's the general opinion here about your current o-line?

Portis was a great pick-up...but everyone knows how great the o-line has been in Denver the last few years.

lol, it wouldn't be much fun at all...

But to your question: With a nucleus of Samuels, Jansen and Thomas, solid roleplayers like Fiore (hopefully) and Friedman, emerging depth with Dockery and Winey, and the return of Cory Raymer (making the line calls? maybe...) things look much improved...esp. when you consider that these guys will be going from a min. protect, pass first scheme (difficult for even the best linemen on a consistent basis) to a run-first, max protect scheme being implemented by one of the best at it...There will be a marked contrast, like night and day, the 'day' being DAYLIGHT for Clinton Portis as he racks up the yards...

The O line will be fine. A lot of what happened last year was due to poor schemes and coaching. They improved at the end of the season when the coaches wised up and actually started to run the ball occasionally. Teams were teeing up on Ramsey. Bugel is an O-line genius and will get the best out of the guys. They ain't Hogs yet but give em a couple games.

BTW you all have made some good pickups this year. Kearse will be great as long as he is healthy and Owens may be the receiver you all have needed for the past 5 years. (as long as he doesn't start his ;furious; ).

i wouldn't dare claim to speak for the entire board, but i think the general consensus is that our o-line is pretty good, and the recent dismal play has been a result of poor blocking schemes designed by he-who-will-not-be-named. i'd say that skins fans are looking forward to having joe bugel back, and think that he'll return the respect to the o-line that they should have.

and i hate dallas too. welcome to the boards.

Well run-blocking sure beats the heck out of pass-blocking....ask any offensive lineman and he'd say that. So form that standpoint, your o-line can't be any worse than it was.

Plus....even if teams have success against Portis ,and Gibbs is forced to go to the air more than he wants to, Brunell is a heck of alot more mobile than Ramsey (in my opinion....despite the age difference).

Yeah we got some big names as well. I'm worried about both...but for different reasons. Injuries and attitude....not hard to figure out which problem goes with which player.

That said, something HAD to be done about our NFL-worst WR corps. T.O. was a great pick-up...an undeniable upgrade in talent.

Our D was destroyed by injuries last season....and JJ still patched them together decently. If we can stay healthy...JJ will blitz a lot more this year (he really cut down on the blitz last year). I'd really like to see how that will turn out with McDougal, Simon, Kearse, and Walker on the line.

My god, are you sure your from Philly?!! Cogent, concise and no vulgarity... what a treat.

Just to support your take, I believed (a-hole Rush notwithstanding) and still do beleive, that McNubb is one of the three best QBs in the league. And absent a decent receiving core, he should be wearing a least one Super Bowl ring.

But now with Gibbs, et al, back in the game all bets are off as to who will take the NFC East. Very intense in this divison and I dig it big time.

Welcome......Ringless......lol

Dont pump these Redskins heads up to much.....Oline appears to be good on PAPER.....but only time will tell if Ole Bugel...will be able to keep up with these young, creative schemes that are in the NFL now. I still am not sold on Ole Brunell IMO his best days have passed...

I think the Sporting News preseason mag had our Offensive line ranked in the top three at the beginning of the year last year before Spurrier gave them a bad name. I think they have a lot of promise.

He IS on the decline, but Brunell will probably put up better #'s then half the QB's in the league. By the way, who's the starting QB in Dallas this year? Quincy.

YEAH GOOD OLE QC the QB that took us to 10-6....You guys did see what he did in his first year under Parcells and Payton right...Just think of how much better he will be in his second straight year ....umm i think Brunell got beat out by Leftwhich....what was that about...but to play devils advocate....Brunell probally would have been cut anyway due to salary and the Jags wanting to get younger......but there is no way he should have gotten that much money and you guys gave up a HIGH 3rd round pick.....

SuperBowls?....no Championships?....yes They are not ringless.

But anyway, that's besides the point. We have gone the longest without a title in this division.....and by a longshot....so your point is taken. But it still doesn't matter....not unless all you care about is history and not what's going on currently.

Brunell's best days are past....but he is more than serviceable. Gibbs will run a ton....and then throw in a mass prtoect scheme. It will be effective. It won't be effective enough this season....but it will be.

I'm not trying to pump up the Redskin egos...just congratulating tham on hiring a great coach. I did the same to Cowboys fans last year when you guys got Tuna.

Brunell wasn't so much beat out as pushed aside. The Jags wanted to go with new players wherever they could to get the fans excited again.

I know it well....and I am only a newbie here. The Redskins haven't concerned me in years....so I felt no urge to come here. I've been on the Eagles boards for years...and the Giants boards since the beginning of the '02 season. They were our threat then...so that's where I was needed.

Now the Giant's board is getting sad. They are a pitiful bunch. They keep talking of how the Eagles, Skins, and Boys sign all the big names, while they are left with back-ups. I can only read so many "we suck" threads (started by Giant fans) before I realize I'm no longer needed. They already know they suck.

:D

Maybe....but I didnt say I was worried about the Skins even now. I only said that I'm now forced to 'respect' them as a team that now has good leadership.

But I still go to the Giants board. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Plus I've been there so long I have almost as many posts there as I do on the Eagles board.

As for the Cowboys board, I just started going there at the mid-late season point last year. I saw the obvious turn-around in D. I'd probably post more there, but I don't like their message board format.

I agree...that's why I entered it that way. I'm an Eagles fan....but I can be objective. It's not an insult to Andy Reid's name to be listed under Gibbs and Parcells....

No the Eagle guy had it right Parcells, Gibbs, Reid, Coughlin

The reason behind this is Parcells has done it with 4 differnt franchise and 4 differnt mangement teams. Gibbs sucess so far has been with one team, one owner, pre free agency and salary cap era.

I actually putt Gibbs first...but they are 1 and 1a in my opinion.

Your point is taken about Parcells succeeding in more than one place. Also...he has succeeded in the free agency era / salary cap era....Gibbs still has to prove he can do that...

Parcells
149-106-1 .582
11-6 postseason
2 superbowls

Gibbs
124-60 .673
16-5 postseason
3 superbowls

Success is measured by winning, not how many different teams you won on.

Gibbs has done that better
