Rest of the Season

Post by dnpmakkah »

The bye week couldn't come at a better time. There are many players who were already banged up and a few more who got nicked up during the Colts game. This allows them to rest for a couple of weeks, focus on fundamentals and mentally put the first half behind them.

The defense has been a huge problem, but that might have a lot to do with health. Come Dallas...Griffen should be back and healthy, Salavea as well. Springs will have 2 more weeks of rest as well as pratice time to adjust conditioning. Rogers will also be healthy from the broken finger and hopefully back to his natural position as #2 corner.

I suspect this bye week might incline GW to prepare McIntosh to possbily start or at least play more. All in all with everyone back and 2 weeks to weed out the bad and bring in the new. How many of you feel things will change for the better? As much as I have been negative on this team. I truely feel that if we are healthy, the Skins will make a push this year even with Brunell as QB. The only unit that hasn't been hit by the injury bug but still has been underperforming is the O-line so that scares be a bit.

Regardless here's my vote for a strong second half of the season.

Sorry, won't happen. The problems wrong with the team are not the schemes but the personel. Lack of discipline, lack of cohesion, and just bad players. The team won't sniff the playoffs for years. I hate to break it to you but the odds are stacked against Campbell being the savior.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

As much as I wish it would happen, I also do not believe that there can be a total turn around. There are just to many problems that rest will not correct. I noted in one article I read that "The menu at Fed Ex field this week is Rumph roast, as is the menu every week." It then went on to talk about teh Redskins secondary and how poorly it has/is performing.

Yes, they will. But I just have a question: In what direction?

Hell yes, we have too many people with integrity to excpect anything less than that.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Too bad "integrity" cant help the team cover, pass protect, kick field goals, or throw the ball. Integrity has nothing to do with turning the season around. This team lacks the talent (especially on defense) and depth to make any type of playoff run.

I'm sorry but this team lacks the singular presence, a leader who can kick their butts and whip them into shape. We need someone like Brian Mitchell, Ken Harvey, even Antonio Pierce - an unquestioned leader.

If he shapes up and enjoys multiple consecutive years of maturity, I would like to hope that Sean Taylor could become a leader in his own right.

Lookin' for a leader. Oh well, sit back, enjoy the ride and play "keep it or trade it" with our draft pick.

But do you agree that even a valiant try isn't worth much to us fans this year? Last year if they fel short, we would have still felt good, but this year is just different. 2-5?? Losses to the Vikings and the Titans?? Those games they should have won and they would be 4-3. Unless this team makes the playoffs, this season has been a brilliant disaster and no positives can be taken from it.

Unless of course Campbell comes in and looks strong.

The defense lacks depth due to the FACT that the depth is STARTING. This should change with a week off, unfortunately Gibbs has been hinting at he was a bit soft with the OTAs and Mini-camps so he may try to make up ground here. Due to back to back losses the bye week already isn't what the players where hoping for. I'm sure they'll see a Joesph Jackson Gibbs that they had no idea was out there..

We've got 3s and 4s covering 1s and 2swhen it comes to CB vs WR, two rookies hold down the inside of the D-line, our best LB playing hurt. if you had a grasp of what was going on with this team you contribute more than one line quips that have no bases

Notice I said "this" team and not "your" or "my". I'm a fan of this team what are you? I searched and found negative post that I've made bt couldn't find anything positive on your part.

They are a good team... but the skins should have won that game as well as the Titans game... that's why I lumped them together. If this franchise had addressed the kicking problem, which I'm sorry to sound like a jerk but I told you so, this team probably would have won that game.

Listen, all I'm saying is that this team had too high of expectations for a galant run to make us feel good... but that run won't happen because the players, save for a handful, are just not good enough.

It's like having a few Ritz crackers in a bowl full of mostly saltines.

More power to you for being optimistic.

I think they'll make a good run at it and with a little luck (good luck, that is) thrown into the mix, still make the playoffs.

My point is that when fully healthy we have guys starting that shouldn't be. Holdman isn't a starting caliber linebacker. Marshall shouldn't be starting in the middle, but should be starting on the outside. Springs, when healthy, is a legit #1, but Rogers hasn't been playing like a #2. Taylor is obviously great but Archuletta has been a disaster. The same can be said for Carter. Griffing is a very good defensive tackle (when healthy), but he hasn't really gotten it going yet this season. Salavae'a, as he admitted on the radion today, has played very poorly. Daniels, while passionate and hard working, seems to have lost a step. Our backups, when called upon to play, have fared very poorly, with the exception of Golston (who has been a pleasant surprise). Khary Campbell was awful subbing for Marshall. And there is no point in even discussing Rumph and Wright. So while I do think that the defense should improve somewhat when (if) we get everyone on the field at the same time, there are some serious problems on the defensive side of the ball that I don't think can be addressed until the offseason (pass rush, upgrade at cb, adding a mlb). The only real in-season option that we have is subbing Macintosh for Holdman, which I hope happens after the bye week.

You can call me negative all you want, but I don't really think that there is very much to be positive about. I wouldn't mind losing as much if this team was playing with passion and heart, and improving on a weekly basis. However, even the players have admitted that that is not the case.

We need to be fully healthy on defense to stand a chance. We need to hit on all cylinders so our defense can carry our offense if need be. Also we need a spark on offense. If Portis can tear it up like he did last year and combine that with a healthy defense then we stand a chance. We cant count on Brunell to win us any games he just dosent take enough chances. Its like hes scared or something. Anyhow Im just sick and tired of the sight of Brunells face it makes me want to :puke: . Any how if we can just be full strength on D and Full go with the running game then we can make a push. Another small remote possibility is if we actually give Jason Campbell a start and find out that he is the next coming of Doug Williams! Who knows sounds crazy but hey at this point what have we got to lose? We have everything to gain. At least we will see what the kid has to offer.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

I think, if we are to achieve positive things this season, we should:
Play Montgomery and Golston and Griffin in rotation.
Rotate Wynn and Carter, hoping to get something from the old guys.
I'd also give Golston a shot at DE and see if Carter can play LB (since he probably can't play tackle) to see if he could be a backup LB, before Holdman. Frankly, I suspect our best defensive linemen are Griffin, Montgomery, Golston and Daniels.
Get Holdman out of there and Rocky in there immediately.
Bench Brunell immediately. Don't even think of bringing him back in.
Trade for Ricky Clark.
Give Sellers and Duckett the ball, instead of Betts.
Use Archeletta for special teams and to rush the passer
Replace our back up DB's as soon as possible.
Keep Vincent as a starter.

Betts is good but I think that Duckett is better. Duckett is also a much more powerful runner and would work well as a change of pace back to Portis.

The playoffs are not to be this year. Too big of a hole and not enough talent on both sides of the ball. Push Archuletta off a bridge......get him off the team by any means necessary (I do not advocate violence, but I'm just amazed at how much he really sucks.......and we have him........FOR YEARS TO COME!!!!!

this is a horrible football team. They're undisciplined, unmotivated, poorly coached and just all around sorry. Not sure how they've managed to go from very good to putrid, but they've managed it. I don't care if they go on a roll or not, for this group to miss the playoffs (and this group will miss it by a country mile) is absolutely pathetic. I would say we'll get it done next year, but this team has got some big time salary cap problems staring it in the face from what I'm hearing so not sure how that'll happen. Good thing we have a 3rd round pick next year. Wait... no we don't even have that because we gave that way to atlanta for a player we'll never use.

Marvelous, just marvelous.
