Portis on the John Thompson Show
Some very interesting comments made by Portis today. He said that this team doesn't have the same camaraderie and passion that they did last year when the were 5-6. He also said that nobody on the team wanted to lose Ryan Clark and Robert Royal. With regard to Clarck, he said he was a great team leader and always knew where everybody was supposed to be on the field.

Did he say who told him that considering they are never on the feild at the same time?

Maybe Sean Taylor or anyone else that he hangs out with.

How wouldn't he know? They'd have to practice against each other in mini-camp, training camp and all season. Im pretty sure the offensive and defensive guys hang out and talk. It'd also be a pretty safe bet to assume CP watches the defense while on the sidelines.
Im glad he feels the same way I do and Im glad he came out and said it. Yea, so what Ryan wanted money. Us being cheap towards our own people has got us 2-5. Our bargain bin players who look expensive but aren't.....what have they done?
Ill even say that Carter is coming around....but we could have drafted a rookie and had the same result. Carter hasn't had anymore impact to the team than Rocky.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!

The feeling is very mutual...Clark was at the Skins/Jax game (Pitt was on a bye week) He said he misses DC and came back becuase of the friendships he had here.
"Sean Taylor is hands down the best athlete I've ever coached it's not even close" Gregg Williams 2005 Mini-Camp
Well about two weeks ago on B-Mitch's radio show, a caller called in and told B-Mitch and Scott Jackson that a "Redskin" wife told them (the caller)that there was grumbling about letting Ryan Clark go and the signing of Archuleta and that Ryan Clark was the guy that kept the secondary straight and Sean Taylor's head in the game.
B-Mitch and Scott Jackson didn't press the caller as to who's wife it was but they didn't just blow it off either. I am sure that if someone was to corner those wives and girlfriends, they would probably get the real story of what is going on here. But then again, these women are probably fiercely loyal to their "gravy-trains" as they should be.

So just because he's not toeing the company line on every single issue, he's not a team leader? Not sure how much since that makes.
I live in DC and everytime he talks to the media he says the truth....and he's not crying and moaning for the ball.....meanwhile our former "team leader" Lavar Arrington says after he's injured " I guess God doesn't want me to shine that much" as if God woke up on Sunday with a plot to ruin him and his stellar season with a whopping 16 tackles and 1 sack in 6 games.

You have got to be joking? Portis is the hardest playing Redskin on the team, whether he runs the ball or blocks he give 110% on every play. He has a great attitude and is dedicated to being a Redskin, he just wants to win and is frustrated like everyone else. If every player played with his intensity and love for the game there is no doubt in my mind we would be 7-0 right now. He is speaking the complete truth about the team not playing as a TEAM, it started in pre-season and had only marginally got better, anyone can see the lack of comradarie and teamwork this year.

Skins fan since birth!!!

I'm not sure if you all heard Santana on the Comcast postgame show. He mentioned that some people need to just sit back and do their jobs. He didn't say any names. He said recievers need to run better routes, lineman need to block, and RB's need to finish their runs. What was wiered he didn't say anything about Mark. I wonder if by not saying him, he was kinda calling him out?

He's speaking the truth too....how can you have chemistry when you blow up the team every offseason....I agree with bringing in Carter....I agree with bringing in Ranle El and Fauria....I just don't see why we brought in Lloyd and Archuleta...at some point you need to develop chemistry for times like these....

I thought that Lloyd was like Icing on the cake but I didn't understand AA. I only knew this guy could hit but that was it. I would like to see us take him out or move him to the line and keep Vincent in there. He was the kind of Safety we should have pursued from the beginning. Even though he was injured.

Maybe it's b/c like everyone else with an ounce of football acumen (excluding J Gibbs) knows that with Brunell behind the helm of the offense they have no chance. They aren't throwing him under the bus yet in the media but behind closed doors I am sure they question the personel moves that this disfunctional management is making and the continued reliance on an over the hill QB.

Sometimes being a leader means saying out loud what has to be said. I think Portis did a good job is stating what everyone sees, but will not say, without specifically singling anyone out. IMO, there is something going on behind the scenes within the team, not just Portis.

All of us together, all of us together. That is starting to chap my hide as well. If Joe does not realize he is begining to loose this team he had better wake up.

Beginning? I think Gibbs has lost this team and for all you newb's that keep ranting that Portis is this and that, if we had 53 portis's on this team it would be undefeated! I hope Clinton will call out MB hell someone does, too bad we aren't closer to AC I would vote to have Vito break his fricking leg, he sucks and he makes this whole team suck, and if Gibbs has any problems we can break his Mr. Nice Guy behind too! Sorry I hate this team playing like this and Saint Gibbs passifying the pundits! I also see how he sucked up to ExtremeForeSkins as well! that made me sick seeing those dipsticks get a stupid book and a hat on Comcast, then that dude saying that on ES it makes him feel like a team player like he is on the roster! HA HA HA What a low life dip stick that looked like he would have a hard time bowling. But with the way Gibbs singled out ES I see why people are banned for saying anything negative about Gibbs, Hey OM TARHOG AND BUBBA how does it feel to sniff the jocks of a pass thier prime QB that is making the Redskins the laughing stock of the NFC EAST, I hope the books and hat are nice rewards for selling your souls!
Im gonna go out on a limb and say the problem really isnt mark... i mean i want jason in there just as much as anyone else due to the fact that i believe it will take a hell of alot of work to salvage this season, and i definately dont think mark was ever the guy that will win a superbowl for us, now or in the future. but i dont think mark is the main problem and the reason why we are 2-5.
Its a team game, a team isnt one guy, no matter who we lost or who we gained in the offseason we have 53 guys that go out there every sunday and its up to every single one of them to win games, and they just arent doing that right now, and i think it has alot to do with what portis said, last year we saw a real TEAM with alot of chemistry... this year things just dont look the same at all.

Today on the Brian Mitchell show they had Ken Harvey on and his biggest concern about this team is the lack of leadership and intensity. He said you need guys that will get in people's faces when they screw up and fire up the team when they're down. He said that he hasn't seen any of that type of behavior from the players on this team (except from Sellers). He and Mitchell also agreed that the moves the team made in the offseason made the defense worse, and both were highly critical of Archuletta. Mitchell called him a "combine all-star" and said that Archuletta only has an NFL career because of the way he performed in the combine, and that everyone in the NFL knows that he can't cover. Harvey's biggest gripe about the defense was the lack of a pass rush. He said that a good defense starts with the dline and he was dissapointed that the Skins didn't really address the dline deficiencies in the offseason.

Remember we don't need the pass rush we have super smart character guys!SkinzCanes wrote:Today on the Brian Mitchell show they had Ken Harvey on and his biggest concern about this team is the lack of leadership and intensity. Archuleta is playing poorly, however he hasn't yet played safety in the kind of situation an NFL safety should WITH TWO LEGITIMATE CORNERS. We can't get a break with our cornerbacks I seriously think we should sign Darrel Green back. I mean Shawn Springs who is not as good as he thinks he is, is our best corner and he's been virtually non existant and when we finally do get him healthy Carlos goes down, and who's to say Carlos is a legit #2 corner "up here (as Joe would say)"
In what Bizarre universe should a team have 5 great WR's and 1 very old mediocre DB? That to me was this off-seasons biggest miscalculation: we over-estimated our defense in general. If teams can throw three td's in the 3rd quarter on us, well lets just say we dont have that kind of offense (goes without saying we don't have that kinda QB, or if we do he's our 3rd stringer) Our defense has yet to take on Greg Williams' personality like it did last year and I don't get it.

Thats another problem with our team...we spend so much in Free Agency that we are forced to play the players with the huge contract, rather than having the flexibility to bench them in favor of another player.
I have no doubt that Vincent could help eliminate some of those deep plays, but he won't get the chance because the Redskins brass has to save face and keep Archuleta out there.
We essentially have two strong safeties....Sean Taylor is really a strong safety with extreme athleticism and speed. But in reality, he rarely gets interceptions because he is much better roaming and making plays, than he is in coverage. We could have the BEST strong safety in the league...instead we have a very good Free Safety and a below average SS in Archuletta.
I think we are marginalizing Taylor's talent by making him play Free and sometimes making him cover a #1 receiver.

Acquisitions
You got a guy who's getting paid more then the whole secondary (AA) and he comes in and is not productive and replaces a team favorite who was solid.
Its like your best buddy at work getting replaced by a guy with a Masters degree that slacks off at work. He's your co-worker but you don't have that good feeling about him.
Only way they will get that chemistry and bond is AA is going to have to make some big plays...everything after that will be forgotten.
Same with Andre Carter...he pretty benched Wynn another locker room favorite.
