I wanted to see what everyone felt is our biggest concern in our defensive game. We are injured in this area more than any other phase of the game. There is no continuity with the players because it seems week end and week out we have several new guys coming in and filling in where there is a need. Let me know what you think.
I choose Non-blitzing scheme. I think last year we were able to put more pressure on QBs through blitzing our Safeties, CB's, LBs and getting into the qb's face. We didn't have many sacks. Not to mention the fact that our dline rarely got qb pressure last season but we found a way to distract the qb's enough to have them throw poor passes. I would like us to keep Arch. by the line of scrimmage on about every play. He would be more helpful up there instead of a liablilty in the secondary. Take out a LB'r and bring in an extra Dback to help us here. My two cents.
Where do you think the defensive problems lie?

Blitzing is over-rated. Sure, it works against bad teams, but most things work against bad teams. Good teams will burn you on blitzes.
As for the Redskin's defense, I think d-line play against both the pass and the run has been and is still the issue. Seems like over the past two years, the LBs and DBs were the ones really excelling, and D-line play was merely fair. Now that the DBs have had injuries, and the LBs are struggling, our D-line issues are getting exposed.

How do you expect us to blitz without decent corners? That's insane. That's even what GWilliams said in his press conference somewhere, that he did not want to put too much pressure on his CBs. I've said it tons and tons WE NEED A CB, WE NEED A CB. I hope we pick up another 1st round CB this year, because we desparately need it. SSprings is great but he might be getting to a point of unpredictability with his injuires.
Of course the problem is the lack of blitz or rush, but that can't be done when we have the CBs we have right now. We have KWright starting for Gods sake!

I see 3 main issues:
- Cornerback, already discussed.
- DT - Again injuries have hurt. Golston and Montgomery may have progressed but they are still low round rookies.
- The infamous "gelling." I am not as down on AC and AA as many, but still, the D had too much turnover and it's going to take some time, particularly given the other issues.

You need an 'All of the above' option.
Bottom line - injuries and lack of equivalent backups. There is a big drop in play from our starters to their backups. Some of that is due to being a rookie and some to inexperience in the current defense scheme for the new guys. I home they can address this in the bye week.
The good news is that the skins will not loose next weekend! That's a step in the right direction. Then the week after, they need to win ... with conviction!

The answer is definately all of the above. The d-line is awful. We can't stop the run with the awful DTs that have had to come in due to injuries. We couldn't ever put pressure on the QB with our front four with any consistancy. Therefore, we need to blitz... but our corners, with the exception of springs who has been hurt, can't cover people 1 on 1, so we can't blitz. Also, our biggest strength, our linebackers are neutalized in the run game because the D-line can keep them free to make plays. Greg Williams has been brilliant in peicing together a great defense the last few years without great players, but this year, we have too few solid starters for even him to make it work. I suspect when the D gets healthy they will play like a top 15 D again, but I just dont think this group can be a top 10 or 5 D like last year. Please, skins, prove me wrong!

def. we have to rely on our front 4. which is tough. when they are clicking its ok that our corners suck. with good corners we can blitz.
so in sumation. our front 4 are ok but could use an upgrade. when we get our corners in gear we will be able to blitz when needed and our D will change a great deal. till then,
