I think it is time to let Gibbs call the plays again. Why the hell did we not try ANYTHING downfield at all? This 4 yard slant crap on every pass attempt is getting old. Note to Danny: Next offseason, Take a vacation. Don't trade away picks, dont pick up anyone, sign your own players, and leave the coaching staff intact!

The new offense takes time but this offense is not geared toward a broken down QB. There isn't a team out there where their QB doesn't get a pass rush in their face but they are still able to do some things.

Example: Peyton Manning. We were all in his face in the first half and almost took him out. They made the adjustments and called plays that got the ball out of his hands quicker, plus they ran to Holdman's side and loosen up the secondary. Plus, Manning and alot of other QBs around the league, don't need perfect conditions to be effective like what's required for Brunell.

Part of being a QB, especially in this day and age, is your ability to check down, get rid of the ball quick, and move around in the pocket. All that Brunell cannot do anymore. Also, I don't believe that Al Saunders' offense is that complicated that Collins and Campbell can't get it. Nor do I think that Saunders is not capable of game planning for either of those two if Gibbs would make the change.

Aikman, Jimmy Johnson, Brian Mitchell, every commentator on Sportalk 980 have said the same thing.....Saunders doesn't have the qb that he needs to effectively run his system. Saunders' comments have echoed that same sentiment. Either get rid of Boonell or get rid of Saunders.

We should have picked up Randel El ONLY last season. All we needed was another WR option. But as always, we broke the bank to be paper champs.

Wait. The thread title is 'Play calling is the problem' (CAPS removed for clarity), and then you go on to say that MB is our biggest problem? Which is it? It's tough to argue or agree with you if I don't know what it is that you're saying.

If you watch the game closer you will see that even if we put JC who is more mobile, he will need cause Sammuels and Jansen didnt block anbody. Mark Brunelll cant even set his feet in Shotgun the rush is there in a sec. I do think if he is able slide around in the pocket like a Mcnabb we would see more passes downfield. But look at the pressure Mcnabb got and he tossed 3 pics. See what I mean Mark Brunell is part of the promblem but not the whole.

I hear what you are saying but conditions are never perfect for any QB in this league. They all get the rush in their face. Like a said a few posts before about Manning, they made an adjustment and torched us with quick throws, check downs, etc... Brunell just doesn't have it unless he can completely set his feet and that is something that is a death nail for any team.

If Campbell is not ready (which I do not believe and he will never be unless they play him) then put in the guy that knows this offense...

Why doesn't Brunell EVER stepup into the pocket. Samuals was getting beet like a drum, but Brunell didn't help him at all. Way too many times the middle of the O-line did a great job forming a pocket and Freeney would not have gotten to #8 if he had simply STEPPED UP INTO THE POCKET! He often "scrambles" as fast as his 100 year old legs can take him out of a pocket that he could simply taken a step or two forward in to. IT REALLY MAKES ME MAD!

Now play calling is the problem! Saunders should call WR options for Randle-el and option passes for Portis every pass play so that #8 doesn't have to throw another pass, because Gibbs will NEVER bench Brunell. So the Offensive coordinator will have to find a way to "virtually bench #8" And I am resigned to the fact that this is a passing team with a QB that can't throw the ball down field and Portis may never get 20 plus carries for the rest of the year!

By the way, could someone buy CP a jock strap! Maybe he could use Mike Rumph's, I know I saw him drop it in the endzone in Indy!

I think the O-line play has been off this year, so I'll accept that, but look at Dave Carr in Houston - the man has never had a good O-line, and still has a bad one, with no running game, but he's still way ahead of Brunell as a QB. Brunell is just done as a starting QB, period. (He's still a great, great back-up though - he's smart enough to come in and play well in a secondary role, especially with the kind of rest a back-up gets).

You may be on to something there about Saunders and the playcalling. He, Saunders, already admitted that there some things that MB can do and some things he can't in his offense. So the play-calling is probably predicated by who is running it. That's the way I look at it. Trent Green wasn't the most mobile QB but he was successful in Saunders' system.
