who can we draft?

Post by die cowboys die »

i hate to bring this up this early in the season but i think we could all use a little distraction... we sure seem headed for a top 10 pick, so what impact players might we be looking at?

i watch a bit of college ball but don't know too much about who are considered the top prospects this year.

(i don't know if this belongs in Around the League or Hog Wash... i'm putting it here because i see it as not being about college teams per se but rather who the skins might be looking at. so obviously, move it at your pleasure, mods, thanks).

I might be missing something but I believe Denver has the option of switching first-round picks with the Redskins because of the three-team Duckett deal.

that's only if both our picks are in the 20s, or something like that. ours certainly looks like it will be a top 10 pick.

We'll have the 32nd pick so I really dont think we have to worry about it right now.

We do not need any more impact players. We have too many of them. What we need are solid role players who can become reliable starters without costing us too much money. I would trade down.

I would draft a CB or a stud OT. If we could get a GOOD young corner to play oppositte Rogers i think that would be good. In a couple years they would be a pretty nasty tandem. Or I would like to draft a OT since Jansen and Samuels have been struggling so badly. We could take the kid and groom him for a couple of years, have him backing up, then start him in like 2 yrs once Jansen is starting to get the injury bug due to age

Rogers and Springs won't be hurt forever, and both Rumph and Wright are solid third corner's. May seem crazy now, but covering someone like Harrison and a third-guy like a Tim Dwight is quite different. Bottom line --- As of next season I can't forsee corner being a concern.

I defnitely think a pass-rushing DE would be a nice spot to start the to-do list. If not that than a safety to start opposite Sean Taylor.

If I'm in the front office Archuletta is gone the day the seaon ends. I don't care how much cap you have to eat, you couldn't find a worse fit for this system if somebody begged you to. I love the guy as a free-lancing run-stopper and as a ball hawk, but the Skins already have one of those. He cannot cover up top and its killing the defense.

Safety or DE would be a nice start. Drafting a few O-lineman would also be a good idea. Tyson Walter is the most notable backup on the roster. That's a problem.

I disagree. Springs is getting old. Wright and Rumph suck and Rogers is garbage for a top 10 pick.

i would agree that D-Line should probably be top priority, or possibly another CB since springs is getting older and has trouble staying healthy (historically). O-line depth would definitely be next.

that said, who is out there at those spots? who are some other collegiate standouts in those positions?

yeah i would have to say, rogers has a long way to go if he's going to live up to top 10 status. but he may still be salvagable as a decent #2 CB... doesn't seem like he'll ever be a #1 though.

wright is not very good, but might be servicable as a #3.

rumph is 100% pure garbage. he is utterly worthless.

i think we need another good CB for sure because any injury there clearly destroys the entire defense. i don't know if we need to invest another top 10 pick there though... but it might be worth it. an excellent secondary can make up for a poor pass rush to an extent...

I am thinking a stud DE or a big time MLB. At the Arkansas-Ole Miss game Saturday, I thought about it while wataching the second quarter, and realized both Sam Olajabutu and more potentially Patrick Willis could be starting for the Redskins at MLB.

I would also love a big time DT. Andre Carter might not be getting sacks, but he is getting pressure. Griffin has been going down hill since his very good 2004.

Sorry, Gregg, but your thoughts that complete losers talent wise can be great just by being touched.

Also, I know I'll be attacked for this, but if Calvin Johnson slips down a bit to us, TAKE HIM!

Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson

Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin

Those would the two guys at the top of my board.

calvin johnson is so disgustingly good it would be hard not to take him. but it would be impossible to justify.

Drafting a middle linebacker would be a good idea as well. Marshall just cant cut it in the middle.

Even the Lions couldn't screw up a talent like Calvin Johnson.

Marcus McCauly is the best corner coming out of college IMO...take him

if not, Gaines Adams is my second choice, but i think we could maybe get victor abiamiri if we trade up to get a second round pick

then, i don't care if we have to use a third round pick on him, but i really hope we find a way to draft mason crosby...tired of our kicking problems

Some, not all, of our tackels problems can be blamed on Brunell and Saunders!

Brunell, STEP UP INTO THE POCKET! Stop drifting back! Or left or right!

Saunders, If your tackel is getting beet like a drum, give him a little help!
