Do you know what frustrates me a little?
When the Redskins win, everyone...and I mean just about everyone...sings the praises of the team, the coaches, Brunell, and many other players on the team. The team is great. Life is great. All is great.
When the Redskins lose, not everyone...but a ton of people start questioning the coaches, Gibbs, Saunders, Brunell. It goes on and on. Many want to abandon ship.
Do I like it when the team loses? Absolutely not. To I question some of the calls made during a game? Perhaps. Will I come on these boards and question Joe Gibbs and cry about it? Absolutely not.
Why?
Because I love this team. I will stick with this team win or lose, thick or thin, until I die. I jumped on the bandwagon years ago...as illustrated by the 4 Redskins tattoos I have...and I will never jump off. If someone tries to push me off, be ready for a fight.
To all of you down in the dumps this week, cheer up. There is still a whole lot of season left. Win or lose, life doesn't really get any better than cheering on the Redskins week in and week out, does it?
Be loud.
Be proud.
Be Redskins fans.

Agreed JH! Going through all these trials and tribulations will only make it that much sweeter when we win the super bowl. It builds character. Some people need to ask themselves, what kind of character do they have?
People may not remember exactly what you did

they will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel.

While I agree with you to some extent, isn't that why this message board exists? To discuss everything, not just wins and how great the team is. Now, the people who want to abandon ship, I don't get that at all but those who question decisions during games and the off-season should be welcomed discussions. If not for that this board would be pretty boring and completely 1-sided. Most, if not all, of the people on this board have stuck with them for along time and will continue to do so and we will also continue to question every decision, because we LOVE our team. Questioning isn't always a bad thing, I too agree that there is no reason to be down. There is alot of season left and we haven't even played a division game at home yet. Go Skins' and I'm happy to be part of the greatest fans in the world.....I will though continue to be discouraged with each and every loss and I might just question a few things along the way.

You just jumped on? Were you a Cowboys fan before you "jumped on". Where were you jumping from? Was it after the Skins won the 3rd superbowl?

Overreaction? Yes. But I am not seeing the quotes by real fans who are abandoning ship. Can you show me some of those?
And on questioning Gibbs, you and I are going to have to agree to disagree. Like you, I love the Skins and Joe Gibbs. I am so glad he's back. But I believe that Skins fans debating the team, the coaches, the players is a good thing, even if they are overreacting. They will be hoarse on Monday morning. On that we part.
Man stop tripping. This is a messageboard and I am a grown-azz man that has the right to question, wonder, etc. on this board just like you have the right to post your opinion as funny as it sounds.
This is what fans do. Analyze, critique, and criticize, win or lose. You make it sound like we are wrong for being upset and wanting answers. If you are a "FAN" of this team and you are accepting this stuff that we are seeing weekend and weekout then I wonder?????

You know what? I really don't mind fans questioning and all. I really didn't mean to convey that message.
What bugs me is when fans have an "end of the world" mentality after a loss. I guess that's the point I was trying to convey, albeit doing a poor job of it.

J-u-iceHog,
It's not the "end of the world". It's just a loss. But I am sure that I am not the only one that has a real problem with this team and it's coaches. Yes, Joe Gibbs is a legend but legends and the folks around him are still humans that make mistakes. Mistakes with personnel, mistakes with "coachin'em up", mistakes with playcalling.....

2-3 is certainly not the end of the world. But, if I may speak for the end-of-the-world society, I think it's the way we've been losing that has brought about this sense of doom. The Redskins haven't lost any close games this year, where they fought hard but came up just short against a very good team. We've either beaten a crappy team, played excellent ball against an excellent team, or, as seems to be the most often scenario, we stink it up against mediocre to good teams.
If the team was mostly performing well and still 2-3, I'd feel better about our chances to make the playoffs this season. However, we seem to crap our pants more than not, and if we continue to show up twice out of every 5 games, this won't be a fun season.

I'll agree with you on that point, jbd. There IS a significant difference between these early losses this year, and the losses during tht early part of last season, when we looked like world beaters, despite losses to the Broncos and KC.
However, why are you "end-of-the-worldish" when this is to be expected of a team trying to put different components together, and meet the lofty expectations set forth at Redskins Park.
We can spend all season talking about personnel decisions, play calls not made/made, and it could for certain make for a looooooooong season, but, with 11 more games to, we always have a fighting chance, don't you agree?
I mean, what do people expect from the Skins, its players, and its front office?? Should they all come out and say "we suck, our season is done"??!!! I mean, c'mon!!!!!
Is that what you all want? Isn't it a bit selfish to want the team to acknowledge YOUR (in the general sense) point of view, so you can say you were right?
It really is baffling....

Back and better than ever!
that is exactly the point though, every year we have new components to put together since we have no picks and we don't develop our own players. So every year this what we have, new players in new roles in new schemes. So yes, I most definitely expect better results because obviously the organization expects them or they would conduct business in a different manner. If I didn't have these expectations I wouldn't be a fan of this team. Now I'm not expecting the players to come out and say we suck, they don't and I don't expect the front office to do so either. All I want is for our team to be successful and to enjoy that in as many different ways as possible..i.e. this message board. JBD made excellent points and I agree with them completely.REDEEMEDSKIN wrote:joebagadonuts wrote:If the team was mostly performing well and still 2-3, I'd feel better about our chances to make the playoffs this season. Exactly. We've played ONE good game so far (Jax), beat up on lowly Houston, lost a close one to a team (Minn.) few expect to be in the post-season, and got stomped by two division opponents. There's nothing pretty about any of that. Having seen the Jax game, it's just maddening to know what this team can do, but has mostly failed to do, so far.
REDEEMEDSKIN wrote:I mean, what do people expect from the Skins, its players, and its front office?? Should they all come out and say "we suck, our season is done"??!!!
What I expect is for them to keep trying, and I'm not seeing it. it was definitely a bit puzzling to see Gibbs going for a FG when he was down by 13 in the 4th quarter. But it was downright outrageous to see what for all the world seemed to me to be an offense that just flat out gave up late in the 4th. Did you see the draw play on second and long? The 9 yard pass attempt that fell incomplete on 3rd and 10? If it didn't work all game long, why should you try it when you're down by 16 FREAKING POINTS LATE IN THE 4TH QUARTER!!!!
I never will give up on the team, but when they give up on themselves, that's when I've got a problem.

What was with that call to run the ball on 3rd and like 20 when we were no where close to field goal range?
I was born on the bandwagon, and will never get off, but at the same time, me and my Dad will be the first ones to say "cut him" when a reciever drops the ball, or throw things across the room when Brunell throws it away again. Thats what fans do, right?

Well, I can't speak for all of the end of the worlders (since I'm not really one myself), but I would guess that half of the reason for the pessimistic posts has to do with simple, unadulterated frustration. The other half, I believe, seems to come from not seeing any accountability for poor play. The players and coaches can all say 'We should have played better. There's no excuse'. And yet we fail to see any change in attitude (for the most part) from week to week.
Now, I know your next devil-advocating questions will be something like 'So we should bench

My guess is that the frequent (and loud) calls for Brunell's head on a platter has to do with seeing some accountability for poor play. Otherwise, given the evidence, why should we as fans expect different results?

This is an issue where hairs will be split ad nauseum, but I feel compelled to contribute anyway
It seems to me that the best fans always cheer on their teams, and never boo them.
Question all you want, start as many threads as you want on your favorite message board (within the rules!), criticize until you're blue in the face, be frustrated, mad, angry. . .whatever. Do your thing--it's okay to be frustrated with the team. Call their performance bad, horrible, whatever. But don't boo them. (I think I'm alluding to what JH called 'jumping ship' here).
As a fan you never lose hope, you never lose your love for the team, and (did I mention) you never boo your team for its performance.
I think fans suffer alongside of their teams without lashing out in hatred. . .it's those kinds of trials that make you a true fan.

If it weren't for fans, there would be no football...no NFL.
JH - as I understand and respect your overall point, I'm not sure if I agree with the "jumping ship" statement.
If someone here has "jumped ship" - wouldn't that mean that they wouldn't be here anymore; because they have given up on the Skins and become a fan of another team?
I could never be a fan of another team. But I probably will never agree with ALL the choices that are made by the Skins. Well then... what should I do... put on a fake smile... pledge allegiance to another team?
I truly love my parents. I don't agree with everything they say or do and I let them know it. And they do the same with me. Does that mean we don't love each other anymore? Should I find new parents? I may disagree with them, but I will always love and support them.
JH - I like and respect much of your commentary and insight around here. Seriously. I just think that some of us are just frustrated and are trying to think of a solution. That's all. We know we can't do anything about it, so we vent. But I really don't think many are becoming fans of other teams. If they are, then we don't need them anyway.
Stay cool brother, I hear ya.

Wouldn't it be nice for a change to be like Indy, or NE, or one of those consistently competitive teams, where the only thing people are wondering is how deep in the playoffs they'll go, instead of wondering if we'll even make the playoffs? At one time, this team was like that. I want those days back.

With the talent we have on this team, it should have happened a year or two again.
Question: Aren't the coaches supposed to get these guys prepared, motivated, and ready to play each Sunday????
The last time I checked, that is what coaches do. So with that being said, who do we can first, the coaches or players???? Somebodies not getting it done and should go....
