T.J. Duckett?

didn't he have some decent stats last year? what's up with not putting him in short yardage? could be used as another wrinkle to the offense. i'm sure most defenses would key on him if he came in and we could call a bootleg..?

with the high gas prices snyder needs to save fuel by not sending his private jet on so many trips. he needs it for awesome free agents like archuleta, lloyd, and carter so he is trying to cut out trips to the combine and on-campus workouts.

In Michael Wilbon's online chat today, he said he was told by an NFL scout that the Redskins went after T. J. Duckett because Philly was eyeing him, and they wanted to keep such a big, bruising back out of their hands. At first it sounds bizarre, but then it makes some sense given how we're not actually playing him or anything. Still, if that's why we threw away a third-round pick on a guy we've only got under contract for a year (so far), that's not the brightest move.

Interesting post Musilis, and unfortunately, I see the wheels turning here.

I believe that this was also the strategy involved with Carter and Archuleta. The Skins were just bidding up the contract prices hoping that the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants would bite and end up with these guys at an outrageous price.

It's kind of like a shopping addict at an auction, the bidding stops and they are the last one with their card in the air saying to themselves..."My go in heaven, what have I done?"

I'm not saying I believe it or not - I just don't know. And I agree; getting players just to keep them off other rosters is silly and, frankly, a bit cowardly, too. Still, he's not even been dressed for 3 games of 5 so far, he's still under a year contract, and we gave up a 3rd rounder for that? It's just perplexing as all get out.

Thank You. This is what I had forseen all along and have not voiced my oppinion because I did not see this post. Think about it ...we have one awsome RB and a good second string in Betts and Rock and we picked up the CFL's #1 RB last year. Why would we need another? cause we knew Philly needed a back and possibly either Dallas or the Giants might look at him also. He would be perfect for the 4-1 and the 3-1 but we don't activate him to use him. I would rather have him then Betts....if we can't finness them then slam them with TJ. So what if we hurt Bett's feelings. If he was a better runner then we could use him.
Anyway I belive he will be trade bait or Betts will be next year....We just didn't want to face him twice this year.

When's the trade deadline this season? It's hard to believe both backs will be trade bait for next year, because aren't both Duckett and Betts on the last years of thier deals? Holding on to both next season seems nearly impossible.

Your right but something is up. either they feel the need to save TJ for the second half of the year and the second time we play our divisional teams or they are saving him. Maybe they are saving him to use as signing fodder. To get the cheapest out of one of them by playing the other against each. One might sign quicker if they think the other has a better chance of signing.

I'm as puzzled as the rest of you by the mysterious case of TJ Duckett, but I really do have a hard time believing that the Redskins simply signed him to keep him away from Philthy, or any other team. If that were the case, I would start to question the sanity of some at Redskins Park. Since the deal would surely have had to be signed off by Gibbs though, I choose to disregard the suggestion.

But that doesn't get me any nearer to answering the question (as so eloquently stated already): where the hell is TJ Duckett?

I am a die hard Skins fan, but the decision to bring in TJ to have him inactive is mysterious at best...horrible at worst.

I think he can help us out, but he has to be on the field to do that. He is going to have very little incentive to stay here if he has little faith that he will get onto the field.

Nobody is saying that he would've made a difference during our losses. But the fact is that we WASTED a 3rd round pick for this guy and all he does is stand on the sidelines. That pick could've been used to draft a corner or a pass rushing end in next year's draft. Instead we pretty much threw the pick away to trade for a guy who is going to be a free agent and wont sign here.
