Heck Of A Good Time
Tell us about the best experience you ever had with a Skins player. How you got to meet them, where it was, and what happened. The team is fan friendly, and I'm sure there are some good enough stories between us die-hards to go around...

My dad used to go to this bar where john riggins used to go to a lot. He met him a few times and they were aquaintences. He knew my mom and dad pretty well when i was about 5 living in Virginia. My memorie of meeting riggins was at my mom's AA meeting. my mom introduced me to him and he asked if i remembered him and he chuckled when i said no..."someday you'll know who i am". not much of a memorie, but it's all I have of meeting a redskin...i was only about 5

Actually, i work for a Construction company in Va. Beach, tidewater plastering and drywall inc.(small plug
) and we built bruce smith's house. He's a pretty nice guy and obviously a sports legend around the beach area. We still do some work for him time to time and he also works out at my dad's gym...i've given him some pointers on how to get bigger...YEAH RIGHT

I've had a few experiences but this is pretty funny. About 10+ years ago I was in an Outback Steakhouse in Herndon (not sure if it's still there). I was standing at the urinal when this huge dude parks next to me (I'm short, like 5-6). It was Joe Jacoby. We finished up, shared a nod and I went to sit down. My family brought me there for my bday so when the waiter brought desert with a candle in it, Joe who was sitting nearby, came over and wished me a happy bday.
It must of been our moment at the urinal

I met Antonio Pierce after a 49er game two years ago ('Skins lost)
He was not active that day due to an ankle injury. I was walking to my car in the stadium lot and he was walking toward the team bus. I was in full 'Skins regalia and he stopped to say sorry they could not pull out the W. I asked him how his ankle was doing, he said "It's getting there" I told him I thought he was going to get his chance soon, he mentioned that it is real hard to get on the field "with money in front of me" refering to the fact that the 'Skins had signed J.Armstead that year. Not as cool as some of the stories that will be posted, but living out here on the west coast I'll take what I can get. Thankfully the 'Skins play the niners again this year so I actually get to go to a game this season.

Oh boy...you should have Jake tell you about the time he told one player he had his "barf bag" in the car....and the other time...I can't remember who he raised heck with for putting his arm around me and having a pic taken. He let him have it....oh...and the time Kurt Gueveia (sp)...scared the stuff out of him at training camp and then gave him his jersey...and the time Jake bugged Jeff Bostic so bad....he met him after practice and gave him HIS jersey. Jake's got lots of stories... and I'm sure he can write them much better than I.

Bout 3 yrs ago, I was sitting at the front desk at my job answering phones when thru the door walked Mr. Art Monk (was there for a meeting about one of his charities). A normal client would have received the usual pleasantries and been pointed to a seat, but I instinctually stood up and shook the man's hand with what felt like a stupid grin on my face (I prolly woulda poured him some coffee and shined his shoes if he had asked). He had a fax sent to the office for his meeting, and I had the pleasure of handing it to him. I felt like I had won the lottery or that I was glowing like in 'The Last Dragon.' ("When ya got that glow"...lol)
I met Jamie Sharper as well in a similar scenario, but he was a Raven at the time, so I ain't really care...

Two formation shifts, one man in motion, and a counter trey...those were the days...

I met Sam Huff at a store I happened to go into - I didn't even know he was going to be there - I still have the mini football he signed for me
I didn't get a chance to talk to him but for a minute, but I had that same stupid grin on my face

Great stories everyone, I'm still waiting for my 15 minutes of fame should I say. I would love to meet one of the Skins I just happen to live about 5 to 6 hours away and the odds aren't exactly in my favor at the moment. I'll get my chance someday I'm sure.
I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.

I've been fortunate to meet a few former Redskins since I started this site... Art Monk, Charles Mann, Ken Harvey, George Starke, Doc Walker, Pat Fisher, Ricky Ervins, Darrell Green, Mark Moseley... and more... I'm not trying to 'name drop', but I think it lends more creedence to the short story I'm about to tell...
I got to interview pretty much all ofthe above at he ken harvey Alumni event... it was a really thrilling day... but the person that I enjoyed the most isn't listed above, and he's perhaps not as much of a 'household' name as some of the aforementioned... his name is Darryl Grant. Mr. Grant (and Reggie Evans - redskins RB 1990s) sat down with Scooter and I at the event... like many did... but he was just so relaxed, so cool, so magnanimous. he just filled the space with his personality and eased back and told us football stories for what seemed like forever (it was actually 45 mins to an hour). He told us great anecdotes, he thrilled us with his story-telling, and most importantly, he provided everyone there with a thrill of a lifetime.
... hearing him tell the infamous 'camouflage Cowboys game' story from an insider's perspective was just the stuff that a football fan's dreams are made of. Giving us the skinny on playing a practical joke on the coaching staff... hearing him just talk about the Gibbs days with such reverrence... it was truly a monumental moment in this site's short existence.
After so graciously sitting down with us for so long, they posed for pictures with us, let us take some pics of the super bowl rings... you just couldn't ask an athlete to be more accomodating.
I tell the story because it still to this day surprises me that out of all the people I was fortunate enough to meet that day, Darrl Grant was undoubtedly my crowning memory.
I hope that I can get Mr. Grant to help out in a couple of upcoming ventures that we have going on at thehogs.net... he was truly extraordinary, and I would love to afford you all the opportunity to sit down and just hang with the guy for an hour.

Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Great stories, guys. Mine was in a more contrived situation.
After the Skins won SB 17, Mark Mosely came to the W.Bell&Co. (kind of like the old Best Co. stores) in Silver Spring and my Dad took my brothers and me to get his autograph. I was about ten years old (So how old does that make me?). We waited in line for about fifteen minutes and my dad took a couple of polaroids of us. One turned out really great- Mosely's arm around me, me with the stupid grin. The other my dad took captured Mosely in profile...picking his nose. My Dad showed him that one to autograph too and Moseley obliged, but chuckled, "I was scratching my nose there- it isn't what it appears to be."
