Moss Makes History

Post by Jake »

According to Stuart Scott on ESPN, against Jacksonville, Santana Moss became the first player in NFL history with two 50-yard catches in a game.

I don't know whether that's true or not because the league has been around so long it seems like that record would have been broken long ago.

But if it is true, then congrats to Moss.

i have to think that can't possibly be true.
if it's not, we should go for the real record next week.

I cannot find anything regarding the record or him making a new one. How exactly did he say it Jake? Was it multiple receptions over 50 yards?

I believe it was 2 TD catches of 50 or more in a game, not just two 50 yard catches.

I think that may be true but I don't remember every single word he said.

I heard the same thing about him making a new record and sadly it will get brushed under the rug because the media hates the Skins.

If this had been Marvin Harrison the media would still be wiping their faces clean.

I heard the same repoprt, but I think the record is 2 TD receptions of 50 yards or more in a game with one being the winner in overtime.

do you think that's an actual record, or just a fact they dug up? I mean if someone has a 52 and a 75 yarder next week, Moss' record becomes most TD receptions in a game over 55 yards... do they have most in a game over 40, 37, 30, 26, 20, 15, 10? Is there an "official" NFL record book or does ESPN just make up "official" records as they happen?

My recollection was *NOT* that he caught two 50+ yard passes in a game...but that he caught one 50+ yard pass in the game (regulation time) and one 50+ yard pass in overtime.

*THAT'S* the record I think they were referring to.

It's never been done during regulation time *AND* in overtime.

So, I agree with ArizonaHog on this one 100%.

Santana is the man. I just love this guy. Gibbs talks about how he is such a "humble and unselfish" player. These characteristics are more than evident. I hope he sticks around a long time. When you see him in an interview, you can tell how happy he is to be a Redskin. He was unappreciated in NY and the fans really love him here. Hail Santana!!!

I didn't hear it. If so, thats surprising, especially considering the Culpepper to Moss connection, the old Skins offense, the Rams in the the early 2000's...thats impressive if its true.

This is good news, but to be realistic it's a rather qualified "record" to hold. More like a candidate for SportsCenter's 'Did You Know'. . .

Still impressive, though, no matter how you slice it.

even though he did break this 'record' and we went to a crazy overtime win, and we won an upset game, and we destroyed the best run defense in the leauge and portis showed everyone why he should be on highlight reel after highlight reel,

the skins game was literally a six second blurb on sportscenter!! I hate haters

Yeah, the "Play of the Week" on NFL Network was the failed "hook and lateral" the Jets attempted. The winning TD did get second, though...

It can't be 2 TDs over 50, because I know that's been done before.

In 1998, in the Thanksgiving game against Dallas, Randy Moss caught 3 passes, and all went 50 or over for TDs (3 for 163). A 56 yarder, a 51 yarder, and a 56 yarder. here.

I have the "Superfan Package" with the NFL Network. They have these "Shorts" where they replay the game in 30 minutes, basically showing every play from the game and cut out all the other stuff. It's really cool. I've seen the Skins / Jags game 3 times now. Doesn't seem to get old either.

Ah yes I remember that game... looked like they could've just thrown a jump ball to him whenever they felt like it... that was definitely one of the days I was an R Moss fan...

Well, that is one contrived record.

As for two fifty+ yard TD catches in one game, I seem to remember Ricky Sanders doing something like that in a big game against Denver a few years back. January 31st, 1988? :)
