gibbs#1: Enjoy the victory!!! The team looks like it's done with ITS preseason (games 1-4) and is now poised to make a run in the remaining 12 games.

It's a great day to be a Redskins fan!!!

Yesterday certainly was satisfying except that our defense let the Jags stay in the game. Oh well, a win is a win. All things considered I thought we'd be 2-2 at this point in the season with wins vs the Vikings and Texans and losses vs the Cowgirls and the Jags.

Yes, it was a great win. The O and D are not perfect but both are coming along. Especially the O yesterday against a very good defense.

And the newcomers are also coming along. Escpecially AC with the sack and BL with several good catches.

The odd one to me though is I thought we gave up a 3 and a 4 for Duckett exactly so we could, say, gain 1 yard on 4th down and run out the clock giving Hall a short field goal to end it?

Instead, we gave them the ball with almost 2 minutes left and our D having trouble with the stop. Why aren't we playing the guy?

He's in the last year of his contract with no certainty of re-signing. What did we get for a 3 and a 4?

rethread you?

Why not just re-visit some of your smack threads?

Man you really can't leave this place no matter how hard you try can you? You say you aren't coming back... all you can talk about is how much this community sucks... and you STILL can't drag yourself away.

Let's not get too nostalgiac about the 2005 defense. This year the line and Holdman's play in particular seem to be much better (even if they're still not getting enough pressure from the front 4); the Skins don't seem to be giving up the long runs they did last year. The defense this week seems to be about the same as the offense, turning in about 70% of a dominating performance with just enough bonehead plays to keep things interesting.

Incidentally, what's going on with Rocky McIntosh? I'll be the first to admit that Holdman's playing far better than anybody had a right to expect out of him (based on last year's performance and the fact that nobody else wanted him), but as long as Williams likes using Marcus Washington to pressure quarterbacks, Holdman ends up in coverage. This is not ideal (although Holdman on Wrighster was better than Carter on Jones-Drew) and maybe an area where McIntosh can help?

Nice post. . .interesting thoughts. Is McIntosh known for pass coverage skills?

I don't know how well McIntosh is in coverage, but I know he's most likely our fastest 'backer.

Well, he's a rookie, so he's not known for anything on the NFL level yet--so it's entirely possible that he wouldn't have done any better on Wrighster than Holdman yesterday. Wrighster's first catch was what was worrisome. Running up the sideline, Holdman didn't look back for the ball and made contact before it arrived. He was giving up the yards whether Wrighster made the catch or not.

But, yeh, McIntosh is a typical Miami linebacker: undersized a bit, but fast. Has he been getting any snaps on defense, though? I've only seen his number on kickoff coverage, but I may not have been paying close enough attention.

Have you checked out any of his posts, or are you just making an arbitrary statement?

Since I can't post most of what he's posted on this board in the PG forums, I invite you to just check out some of the great wisdom he's shared with us so far in smack.

Not hard to get a 'pass' from me, but when you go out of your way to be a nuisance, it ain't gonna happen... not even after a great win.

It's really not the forgiveness of the general population he needs, it's the forgiveness of the staff for whom he created the work and he ain't getting it

It's not personal for me... all you have to do is follow the few rules that we have here and not make constant work for the staff - he hasn't shown an ability to do that at all yet. And he still tries to poke a jab at te staff in this post with his 'rethread me' comment.

We don't have to 'rethread' you when you follow the simple rules.

Shall we get this thread back on topic?

here's my attempt at getting the thread back on topic:

we now have the offense we expected. we're not suddenly the 2001 rams, we're the 2005 redskins with a bunch of extra "oomph". the d-line is starting to get back to end-of-2005 form, the LBs have always been good. all we need is springs to return to get our pass defense back to a decent level and we are all set.

it feels good to finally be hopeful about the season again!

Well, I don't think the Redskins ever went away, but they might have been playing in disguise for a while.

I have nothing negative to say today. Not for me, the half hearted "oh well, a win is a win", or "shame the defence let it go to overtime", or "yes, but the Giants will be tough next week".

Oh no, for me, it's been a day of wallowing in my own smugness. And I'm going to ride that wave all the way into tomorrow.

It's always a good day to be a Redskins fan, but sometimes they make it easier for you to remember that fact. :D
