latest on sapp and other remaing FA's

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

latest on sapp and other remaing FA's

Sapp's ominous exclusion from the free-agency frenzy could be chalked up to a few different variables. Aside from the false assumption that he was a near lock to re-sign with the Bucs, there may also be the view that Sapp would ask for the moon.

"I haven't asked for a red cent and nobody has offered me anything so how could anyone know what I would ask for?" he asked rhetorically. "If I were 25 years old I can come in with a demand. But I'm not in Peyton Manning's shoes and I'm not 25 so I'm not crazy. I do think I'm the best addition on the open market."

While he doesn't see himself playing for a pittance, he says his next signing will be about the chance to win.

"Winning is always No. 1, it's not about the money at this point," he said. "I've collected almost $40 million in the last few years. I want to play four more years and try to do a little more to get a solid ticket to Canton."

can we please get this guy. i'd feel so much more comfortable with our d-line having him in the middle.

I agree also. I think he would be a force in the middle of our D-line

1001 - he would be too much with a downside. I think drafting a new stud who would be cheaper and do a daggone good job would be more realistic.

I think that the Hall of Fame part was the most telling - a fatter Bruce Smith - no thanks.

difference is, at the end of the four year deal that sapp wants, he'll still be younger than BS was when snyder signed him.

At first I didn't want him, but if we can get him without signing him to huge contract, that would be nice. Something tells me though that we may have a 3-4 defense next year, considering all the LB's we're talking to. If thats the case we wouldn't need Sapp anyway.

the 4-6 defense requires a lot from the LB which means the D has to be deep in good athletic LBs.

I disagree with Sapp because he is out of shape, gaining weight more and more, slowing down and if it wasn't for the Skins wouldn't have had a sack even longer into the season.

He is a disruptor, expensive and losing his speed.

Even as a VT fan I questioned the Smith signing in my mind and was very hard on Smith this year when he kept running past the running backs carrying the ball past him so he could get to the QB. Why did he do this? To cement his nomination to the Hall of Fame.

What were Sapp's very words?

If he was younger and not having problems with weight and speed - fine. But he is having problems. He isn't the same, and we made the mistake of getting Smith on the downside of his production.

One other thing - Smith didn't have an apron of a gut hanging over his belt line either. He was a physical specimen, even this year. He did train like a beast, but it just translated poorly due to his age catching up to him. He was dominant for years and years more than Sapp ever was.

I just don't feel comfortable with an aging, slowing, heavy vet with a big contract, big mouth and big HOF dreams.
