I saw this sign posted once, it said, 'blasting zone ahead'. Wow... shouldn't that read: 'Road Closed'? - Brian Regan

Yeah, against a team that hasn't won a game and probably has just 12- 16 kids total -- or just enough to play. I live in WV and there are high schools here that are so small that a slightly bigger school (500 kids) with one really good athlete and a couple big kids blocking won't be stopped. Many schools struggle to get enough good players so their lineman play the whole game.
I was kind of ticked off they ran the score up too. I'd like to see that kid do that against an Ohio school, it wouldn't happen...in fact, he might never get out of the backfield!
Don't be impressed.

Why? Becasue you're not impressed?
... the kid ran for 650+ yards... I don't care if it was against the Vienna Boy's choir... that's still impressive to me personally.
Shouldn't your angst for 'running up the score' be with the coach and not the kid who just went out there and played football?
Seems like an awful lot of haterade for a kid playing HS football to me.

Oh by the way... according to greatschools.net (I have no idea how accurate a source it is but it was all that I could find), the school that got beat 64-0 actually has a higher enrollment than the school that won 64-0. (288 to 217 - over 30% more students)
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
Boss...I've lived in WV for 13 years and have watched a ton of HS games..from A to AAA. The difference between one A and another A is so huge it's hard to comprehend. There are schools in this state that have a Health teacher coaching football because no one else wants to do it. He might have a brother and friend helping him. Other schools, might have a coach and 10 assts.
I'm sure this kid is a very good athlete. He's probably a tough WV boy who can run very fast. With a blocker or two, he gets around the end and never get touched -- I'm not kidding. My kids went to a AAA school here and they play other AAA's and just slaughter them...by the 1st quarter it's 35-0 and everyone watching knows there's NO chance that the other team will ever see the redzone - unless they pick up a fumble. The ball gets snapped and 2 seconds later the defensive line is pushed 5 yards downfield.
There is a huge difference in high schools around this state. I grew in MD near DC and schools there are pretty competitive with each other. That isn't the case in the country, and WV has got some serious rural areas. Some high schools are pulling from multiple tiny towns where pee wee sports isn't available. You get around the bigger towns/cities (e.g., Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Wheeling, Martinsburg, Morgantown) and they are big time serious about their sports from the time the kids are 4 or 5 years old.
Also, there are small private schools in this state that can compete in certain sports as they recruit. Linsley High School near Wheeling costs more than most colleges in the US and they field some good sports teams, and they're very small.
I certainly didn't mean to hate on the young man...as he's possibly a great athlete...I just know there's a huge difference between schools in this state.

I'm with fredp45 - humiliating the weak is never impressive (unless we're talking about Dallas

Still, there's a bit more background to this story which isn't reported in the article linked, but was noted in other sources, like the Washington Post. The RB in question, Paul McCoy, was a senior hoping to get a scholarship, but because he was from a small WV school, he could draw no interest from colleges. His coach had previously sat him at the half in other games when the score was lopsided, but decided at the half to make a concerted effort in this game to have McCoy capture the record, in the hopes some colleges would notice him then. The coach even went so far as to employ a no-huddle offense to save time and allow more plays. I'm still not in favor of running up the score generally, but I can sort of accept what happened in this case.
