=D> maybe it was just cob-webs that took a little time to get out. but if they play even close to the level of dominance they played with yesterday, this is going to be a hell of a ride. saunders could do anything he wanted witht the play calling because of it.

DD was a manchild yesterday.... for probably the first time in his career

only bad point was the penalties.

real test for em this sunday. jacksonville has a MEAN defensive line. should be a great match-up. i can't wait to watch it.

I gotta give props to DD who for the 1st time did not get beat by a DB in a block. Not only did he run the DB over he continued to block someone else. Its about time.

that was a fun one to watch.

The penalties need to stop though. Being at home this week should help.

Even though it was the lonely Texans, yesterday proved to me how important Clinton Portis is to the offense. Yes Betts had better numbers but it was something that Bram Weinstein said that morning about Portis' leadership in the huddle.

Bram said that he spoke with Randy Thomas after the game yesterday and Randy told him that Portis is the one putting the thumb on those guys in the huddle. The one that is pumping them up, loosening them up and gettin' on them when they mess up. They feel better when he is on the field.

Interesting that in this day of free agency where guys may stick around 1-2-3 years and then run for the money, that teams are still that much dependent upon one individual player. I guess we are also seeing this Springs being out as well.

So help out someone who couldn't watch the game. What kind of penalties were they commiting? We're they mostly false starts or holding or just a big mixed bag? I'm actually hoping its the false start type because that shouldn't be as big of an issue at home next week. They are going to be TESTED against the Jags and don't need penalties to make it harder.

Yeah, that's what frustrated me.

Sometime in the 3rd Quarter Jansen got called on like back to back holding calls, with Samuels also holding on the second call.

Jansen's been called for holding a lot this year so hopefully Buges works with him on that.

But yes, Dockery was a monster! Did you see him just EAT that DB when he was lead blocking for CP? It was crazy!

Portis is a beast. The O Line looked a lot better, and Mario Williams should put the word BUST on the back of his jersey..he doesnt even look like he knows where the ball is in the games....what the heck were the Texans thinking by drafting that clown.

They weren't thinking. That's why they are the Texans.

Ouch :( Definitely not what I wanted to hear. Hopefully Buges will do some ass-kickin' this week. We can't afford to spot the Jags Defense 10 yards on holding calls.

Commenting, not disagreeing.

Bett's "better numbers" pretty much after Portis had worn the D down and the game was over. Not a fair comparison. The post is pro-Portis, so again no disputing the point. I'm just saying that stat is misleading too. Portis was just better.

Did you read my article?

I don't think the offensive line deserves an ouch regardless of the penalties. I'm not condoning them at all... they are a problem that needs to be addressed... and will be I'm sure.

But everything is relative isn't it? The Redskins o-line DOMINATED the game in the trenches and the penalties were the ONLY hiccup.

Alright, I'm going to completely break down the penalties for everyone to see if it bears out my belief that the o-line penalties have been highly exacerbated in the press and by some fans. i should have addressed this in my article today, but I wanted to get it out in a timely manner. I may add this to the article though....

The Redskins committed 12 penalties Sunday, that cost us 126 yards... definitely not a great number. But there seems to be this misconception that it was all o-line, all the time and that it 'cost us' something.

Would it surprise you to learn that only five of those penalties were on the offensive line and that four of them were on one drive? That means that the False start penalty on Samuels in the 4th was the only penalty on the offensive line other than the one drive to end the second quarter.

Now that one drive was bad... there were 4 penalties - 3 holding and one false start. It was made worse by the fact that there was an additional holding on one of the plays that was nullified because the Redskins already had a holding penalty. The Redskins were in a pretty spread formation because they were trying to drive the ball 82 yards and put points up before the half. The holding calls came from the OL... holding. We were a little short on protection and trying to quick hit our way down the field and there were a couple of times that putting the grab on was the only thing to keep the DL from getting to the QB and losing yards and valuable time.

But isn't everything relative to something? Sure we stalled on the drive because of the penalties... they made the job tougher... but they still got it done. Because of the penalties... the redskins ran 14 plays on the drive... 4 of them resulted in losses due to penalty obviously... one of them was a pass to Cooley that netted 0 yards, but all 9 of the other plays on he drive resulted in POSITIVE yardage for the offense. And at the end of this horrendous display of a drive by the Washington Redskins offensive line, Clinton Portis ran in for a touchdown to close out the first half.

So I ask you.. how detrimental were these o-line penalties really? They still scored on the drive... the o-line took ONE other penalty the rest of the game in a game that they just man-handled the Texans. You don't put up 200+ yards rushing, and 500 all purpose yards of offense without a little man-handling.

I think that the commentators and some media have made a mountain out of a molehill and have completely undermined what was a great performance. Their five penalties accounted for -40 yards (Rogers pass interference penalty alone was 32 yards) and most of which were on a drive that the Redskins inevitibly scored regardless.

Watch the game again... watch how dominant the o-line was... I think you'll be able to live with the penalties and the overall play of the OL.

My 2 cents

Next week will be a real test to see how far along they are. They played a college defensive line.

Like HS said, J-Ville's d-line is VERY strong and so is the rest of their defense so if we can do half of what we did to Houston to the Jags, then I will be very impressed.

I would have thought that learning how to block with two broken thumbs last year -- and doing a great job -- would be all the discipline and technique necessary to cut down on holding calls when both thumbs are working properly.

Portis "is" a beast and I think him coming back has brought life back into the offense whether it's him or Betts carrying the ball.

RE: Mario Williams...Would Andre Carter fall into that category as well? He did not do much against the Texans. My expectations may be kind of high on him since I have been a fan of his since his Cal days, but he looks bad out there. For such a physical specimen you would think he would have produced a little more by now. Even though this is his third game of season, he did play in the pre-season and looked pretty bad there too.

At the risk of taking on the BH, I'll disagree to an extent with my $.05 ...

Yes we 'manhandled' the Texans and ran up 500 all purpose yards ... but that was against a very mediocre team. The penalties hurt to a minor degree in THIS game since the skins were so dominant. HOWEVER, in a much closer game (ie against the Jags) those penalties could cause a drive to stall and could end up cost us the game.

I saw a lot of positives in last weeks game - but the number and type of penalties - thus far this season - concerns me and I'm sure, the skins staff. The good news is that this is an area that can be fixed - and I hope soon.

What hasn't gotten much air time is that Randy Thomas told the coaches midway through the game that his hammie hurt and he couldn't pull. Hopefully, it will be better by this weekend.

Even with a bad hammie, Randy and friends were dominating yesterday. If they play that way the rest of the season, we may have to dust off a certain nickname that has been in storage since '93. ;-)

A+ effort from the o-line against a tough "D"... I was really surprised to see how many times their big defensive tackles stunted and we took advantage of hitting those holes... I was really expecting their front 4 to play straight up... shows the respect they have for our o-line...

With all the changes that have happened to this team, anyone forget that this o line has been together for going on 4 years now, thats a major plus to keep a unit together for that long and i think its finally starting to pay off.

Game Balls to the O-Line. I certainly hope that we don't get any injuries to those guys and our backups will be prepared to fill in....
