Report: T.O. attempted suicide
08:26 AM CDT on Wednesday, September 27, 2006
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
Dallas Cowboys star receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide Tuesday night by swallowing prescription pain medication, according to a Dallas police report obtained by WFAA-TV.
The report says Owens acknowledged to police that he had taken the pills and was trying to harm himself, WFAA-TV reported Wednesday.
Owens was treated at Baylor University Medical Center for an undisclosed reason.
According to the station, doctors were attempting to induce vomiting.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said late Tuesday he was unaware of Owens’ trip to the hospital, and Owens’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and publicist, Kim Etheridge, could not be reached for comment.
Last week, according to Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, Owens had a reaction to the pain medicine he was given following surgery in which a plate was inserted into his right hand to stabilize a fractured fourth metacarpal. Parcells said Owens became ill and could not work out, but he was improved the next day.
On Tuesday, Owens did not speak with the media, but he appeared to be in good spirits.
He continued conditioning work on the side with associate trainer Britt Brown and caught passes. He was wearing gloves and had his ring and middle fingers on his right hand taped together.
Earlier Tuesday, Parcells said Owens would practice some today and he had not ruled Owens out from playing Sunday at Tennessee. Owens was wearing a bone growth simulator Tuesday to help the healing process. According to Parcells, the swelling in Owens’ hand had gone down, and the biggest challenge for Owens would be handling the pain of catching passes.
“I have to see him out there being a confident player,” Parcells said. “I don’t want him out there thinking about something. If it’s going act as a deterrent, I don’t want that because that would eventually hurt us. But if he can get to the point where it looks like he can function and he feels pretty good about it (then Parcells would play him).
“I’m talking to him every day, seeing how he’s doing. We’re moving forward. We have a lot of time between now and the game.”
After every game, every play & every highlight, I'll always remember #21. RIP Sean.

I was just listening to Mike and Mike and they said that they have confirmed that this was an attempt to try to hurt himself. As much as I dislike TO, it saddens me to think that such a gifted person would try to take his own life. I do hope he works out his problem. No link as of yet. Like I said, I just heard it on TV.

Agreed. Football is an afterthought at this points as it concerns T.O. If these reports are true, I hope he gets the help he needs to become a healthy human being.

After watching ESPN this morning, it sounds like TO must have been reading about the scouting reports on the iggles defense
Dallas news conference at 2:30pm.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I find very difficult to believe that a man with TO's ego would do something like this. I'll believe it when I hear it from his mouth orin an official statement from the Cowboys. Or from ESPN, since they're so trustworthy.

I have to agree with you on this one. This may be a typical example of the MEDIA just trying to create something that isn't there simply for the purpose of selling more papers! That never happens, does it?
Be weary of these reports, people.

But this story is citing a police report. I'm more inclined to believe that than Owens' publicist.
I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.

I just meant that a police report wouldn't be spinning this to create a story. But maybe I'm wrong - and I'm sure you'd know better than I would.

Yeah because lawyers are always at the scene of crimes!
The police tried to cover this up by the whole 'allergic reaction' story. The truth is coming to light because actual events are documented in police reports.

It could be that the 'Yes' is taken out of context. Who knows. All I'm saying is that it doesn't seem to fit the personality that I perceive he has. Like I said, I'll believe it when I hear it from someone credible.

Deion had the same type of ego and he admitted to purposely driving off a cliff. Maybe all that ego is just a cover up for personal insecurities.
I don't know if this story is or is not true. I hope it is NOT true.
But this would not be the 1st time that an athlete or a person with a huge ego tried to take their own life. In fact, the huge ego is sometimes the very reason the person feels they need to take such a drastic step to avoid embarassment.

Both the 49ers and Eagles were concerned for his mental health and "radical behaviors" and tried to get him help but he was offended by them and blew them off.
