Time to get back to Basics, STOP PANICKING!

Post by fleetus »

Everyone drank the kool-aid during the offseason. Now we've lost two games, pass protection and Brunell has looked poor, the running game has been weak and the defense that we've become used to seeing bail us out of game after game has not done so. Okay, time to move on.

I believe in Joe Gibbs above all. Saunders 700 page playbook sounds neat and all but Gibbs has three pretty rings he got from ball controlled offenses, solid defense and SPECIAL special teams. This week, we will get back to basics, mark my words. Portis 100% or not, the Texans will see a steady diet of burgundy and gold shoulder pads leveled in their direction. It may be 3 yards and a cloud of dust at times but we have to pound the ball. It sets up our our speedsters Moss and Randle El. It sets up our defense to get enough rest to be fresh enough to attack, attack, attck. It keeps us from falling behind early and taking ourselves out of our gameplan. We will win ugly against the Texans, Redskins-UGLY and will have another week to further address the issues. So I am trying to appeal to your common sense, to not PANIC, it serves no purpose. Like TIN CUP, our game feels like an unfolding lawn chair. The only way to fix that is to get back to what we know. I trust Gibbs will do exactly that.

That's all well and good. Except for the fact that Portis is still banged up so they aren't going to pound him between the tackles on a consistant basis. Not to mention the fact that Saunders uses the pass to open up the run. Oh yea, our oline doesn't seem too capable of opening up any running lanes either. The only way that our offense is going to improve is if we can improve on our vertical passing game. Teams are stacking the box against us right now and its going to be very hard to run against 8 and 9 man fronts, even against a crappy defense like Houston's.

Actually Skincanes, I've been reading/hearing Gibbs and Brunell talk about how teams are shutting down our run with the front 7 and that we need to run more effectively to open up the pass. Either way, there's no question that Portis (100% or not) will improve the Redskin offense. Betts is adequate but doesn't have what it takes to make the big play. Portis definitely has proven that he can be a gamebreaker for us. If we feed him 25+ times this week, we should win the game.

Getting back to basics is not a matter of improving our vertical passing game. It is about blocking, tackling, no turnovers, running the ball. Vertical passing game it the icing on top, not the foundation.

Not to mention the fact that Saunders uses the pass to open up the run.

Like I said up top, Saunders playbook sounds neat and all, but Gibbs is the HEAD COACH with three superbowl rings. He didn't get them by opening up the run with a vertical passing game. Not sure I even agrre with that statement about Saunders. Don't remember Priest Holmes and LJ waiting for Eddie Kennison and Johnnnie Morton to open up their running game for them

We will run the ball profusely this weekend. If you want to continue to gripe, that's your prerogative. I choose to have faith in Gibbs.

Being able to complete a pass of more than 5 yards isn't a football basic?

Shouldnt this post be for the Redskins who actually play the game?
Who cares if fans panic?
Fans get worked up and say things becasue they are emotional about the team.
Do you know how that effects the team and the game on the field?
Well, it has no effect! B/C the team could care less!
Just beat Dallas - they are A-H****

Exactly...but it is AMAZING how many people actually believe that the players and coaches will be affected by fans bitching and moaning.

I agree that we all have a right to say what we feel, but when fans on this site TELL other fans that they NEED to "Look at themselves first" before criticising the team, I mean to me it is comical. You don't make it to the NFL as a player or coach if you can't handle FANATICS voicing their oppinion.

There are a couple dozen posters on this board that need to go watch a game in Veterans Stadium or whatever the new place is called...then come back and tell us all to join hands and sing Kumbayah (sp?). Those fans in Philly and NY are hard asses, and they don't play this 'we must be supportive game'.....But again, you all have the right to say whatever is on your mind....just please don't mock those who speak critically as "Fake" fans...it's just not true.

2 things:

* Has someone called you a "fake" fan for criticizing?
* Ummm. . .I don't want to be like NY or Philly's fans. Did you just cite them as examples of quality fandom? :puke:

1. I've seen many posters refer to people speaking harshly against the product on the field as "fans"..... you know, with the quote marks...meaning not really but ok. I'm sure you understand. So to me, that is calling someone a fake fan. If I'm reaching then I apologize.

2. Yeah, I've known many Eagles and Giants fans in my life and although they are our bitter rivals, they are truly passionate fans. And I also think that anyone who has played for those teams would agree. I do consider them great fans, but I did not mean to use them as an example of how we should act. I will say that compared to them, most Redskins fans I know need to toughen up a bit though! :)

Hey...I'm a Yankee fan, and I beg to differ.

Plus, what they did to CP's mom last year...there's no comparision.

For instance New Yorkers continue to ridicule there best player A-Rod. Sure the guy is having an off year. But his off year is still Better than most he has 30 plus homers bating average around 290 , and a hundred plus Rbi s. Not mention the won theyre division. What more can you ask from the guy. Well maybe not all the Yankee fans are jail bergs more Like Philly and Raider fans are. But definately spoiled and unapreciative of an All Star who has been producing and his off year is still having a decent year. Anyhow Go Angels and Redskins. Boo Yankees!

I think we get the win we and the players need this week :) I also think it is because we will execute the basics of running catching blocking and tackling.
I'm not sure about the passing being a basic  so we have no worries with that part of the game :nana:

I also think that as far as NFL fans go the 2 stadiums I would not go to as a Redskin fan is the iggles and the giants. These 2 stadiums are full of fans who have no respect for themselves let alone other fans of their own team. Not all of them, just most. I'm not sure about the baseball crowd, but who wants to go see that waste of time and money?

I am now very sure I will have to be very, very careful about using quotes again :lowblow:
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
