Fed-Ex ranked worst stadium in NFL

Post by Chris Luva Luva »

1. FedEx Field in Landover, Md. The Redskins have an insanely loyal fan base, as evidenced by the following: the team has sold out every ticket to every home game since 1966. For much of that time, the team played in Washington, D.C., at RFK Stadium. It's where the Washington Nationals have played baseball the past two years, and the Senators played decades ago. It rocked for NFL football. But since 1997, the team has played in Landover, Md., at FedEx Field. The place has the largest seating capacity in the league, with room for 91,704. Of course, it will take you hours to get out of the place. I'm sorry, but the ride from downtown D.C. just takes too long. The place is too big, too corporate. There are fewer "Hogs" and more pigs in the stands.

I doubt its the absolute worst but I can't disagree with many points made. Ive only been to two NFL stadiums and without a doubt in my mind Ravens stadium is 100x better than Fed-Ex.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!

What did the writer say that WASN'T true?

It's fine for you to disagree with what the writer wrote, but I don't see how it was for the sake of taking a pot shot at the team.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

It took Scott something like 4 1/2 hours to get around traffic and get to the stadium last Monday. That would seem to bear out what the writer said implicitly.

Hard to get to easily... even harder to stomach the concession stand prices... TWENTY THOUSAND SEATS ADDED TO THE ORIGINAL DESIGN POST-BUILD.

... it's a corporate warehouse and only a redskin fan would even think about denying it or arguing it.

My 2 cents

Of course, the traffic issue isn't really the fault of the Redskins. If the stadium was 20,000 seats in the heart of DC it would still take HOURS to get to and from the stadium.

And judging from the increase in pedestrian and automobile traffic in DC since the Skins left RFK, it might evn be worse than we could imagine. My 2 cents

i agree that there's nothing tthey can do with the traffic. it's just bad all over. not really the stadium's fault.
i also agree with the 'too corporate' part as well.

 why doesn't snyder just build another stadium, a little further out, say a little south of DC, and a bit closer to NC.

Has this guy ever actually tried to drive in and out of Foxboro?!? It's a nightmare. It's like Hell: one road in, one road out. I can't speak for his review of FedEx, but I can say he's a moron for ranking it so low partially based on traffic patterns, and yet neglecting the horror that is trying to get to Gilette Stadium (the stadium is pretty sweet, once you get there).

Gilette Stadium is by far the best out of the dozen or so NFL stadiums that I've been to. The seats are far roomier and far more comfortable than FedEX, because there are alot fewer seats. That's kind of irrelevant though because who ever sits at a Redskins game?

Taking it outside of the NFL, there's nothing worse that going to a Penn St. game.

If there was ever proof that dumping tons of money and trying to recover it, and then some more, from the fans does not make an automatic Superbowl Champion, I know an owner who has succeeded hands down.

FedEx is a Stadium designed and redesigned to maximise profit, not to create the best football experience for the fans. It surely used to beat Soldier Field any day in the past though. Not sure about Lincoln now though.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I'm, obviously, biased but I really don't mind FedEx, I NEVER drive, Metro is a much better option and, with one exception, I've enjoyed my seats, especially in The Stomp Zone. I've had seats in the club section and loved the view but was disgusted by the "fans" ... of course, that was during the Schottenheimer era. The beer prices are exorbitant but I drink them* anyway.

Niki and I took the metro last year. We left at 900 for a 100pm game, and got there at 1230. Not good.

As for driving, its not too bad on Sundays. Its the rush hour games that frickin' kill ya.

We take Metro...but we get on the bus at the Landover Metro Station (no trains involved). Never any problems - I think they start running 2 1/2 hours before the game.

I've always been able to make that trip in about an hour and I get on at Vienna so I essentially have to go from one end of the Orange line to the other

You must leave super early.

I went to the game and left Easton, MD at 4pm, picked up some others at Largo, MD and arrived at our seats at 6 30 pm. This included parking in a green lot that was a very long walk to the stadium PLUS it only had 1 lane into the 2 green lots that are located near the Sports Medicine facility. Not a great place to park but really daunting if you plan on staying the whole game. This is all that was available because we arrived a lot later than planned and we could not get to the green lot that is fairly close by the stadium where we are normally able to park and do a bunch of tailgating

We left after the game finished and even with the longer than usual time to get back to the car AND the single lane out of this lot we were still back in Easton by 12 45 am!

I have been to a few games in the past 2 years and while there is a lot of waiting it has never been for the times mentioned in other posts. Is it easier going to Annapolis and Chevy Chase as these are the places where I have commuted from?
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Actually I'm not all that far from Vienna so I don't have to leave too early ... although the bus trip itself does add another 25 minutes to the trip ... if it's a 4PM game, I'll be on the train at 2PMish if I plan on tailgating

I agree. We also take the METRO (Orange Line) since we live 1 block from a station. It is remarkably easy. Once the game was over it took us about an hour to go from our seats in the 400's, catch the bus to the station, and then METRO all the way across town. I think the writer is full of it, and has never been to a game at the stadium. The guy makes some pretty idiotic statements about the other stadiums, too. He says that Dolphins Stadium is "too far from Miami." Sure, like a stadium down there is best right downtown like where the Heat play. As for his comments on the MEadowlands, all he needed to say it's in New Jersey, and he based his opinion of Paul Brown Stadium on "fans were so vulgar and there were such displays of drunkenness." Um, whose fans were busted throwing ice balls at the opposing team a few years ago? Bottom line, the author of the article is a moron.

I have been to a number of current (and former) NFL stadiums: Raymond James, Hines, Texas, RFK, Three Rivers, M&T, Memorial, LA Coliseum.

While I have never been to Lambeau, and I have not been to every stadium, from what I have seen, I have to agree with both his best and worst. Raymond James is awesome, Fed Ex is Horrible. (with a capital H)

If you look at the entire fan experience, fed ex fails miserably.

To be honest, it a little more palatable now that I have lower level seats, but generally the fan experience is horrific.

I think upper level folks have to walk about 17 miles to get to their seats, OR take their chances on the escalator (I think there is only ONE) to the top. Then there is the march to your seats.

* The traffic AND joke of a parking situation. This is similar to many other stadiums. FedEx might not be the worst, but it is right up there. The fans walk directly across the entrances and exits to the parking lots causing HUGE back-ups getting in and out.

* There was no grading of the land so the lots are very hilly which can make walking to the game or around to other tailgate parties quite a workout.

* There is NOTHING else out there (unless you want to pray after the game at the Church). You have to drive/ghetro bus it If you want to hang after the game with your boys, watch the late games, have a cool pop and some food you are SOL.

* U.G.L.Y you ain't got no alibi. Man is that place ugly. Big concrete monster with ZERO personality. Bright red and yellow seats are a major eyesore. I mean. how stupid was it to make the club level seats bright yellow. That is all you see at a game sine so many club people sit inside during the game. Inside the stadium it is so dank and dark everywhere.

* Concessions: awful and way over priced.

* Jumbotrons- I think these were made back in 1970. Small and very little definition to the screen.

* Out-of-town scores. Horrible. You barely get any info on the other games going on. A score, every so often.

* Just getting in to the game. If you do not get in about an hour prior to game time good luck getting to your seat by kickoff. Even pre 9-11 it was bad so you can't blame that.

* Music. While I do not care about listening to good music at a game, (I am there to watch some FOOTBALL) you think they could at least mix it up a bit.

* Stadium announcer. I hate that guy. Deep voiced, cheese ball Mark Kessler.

* How they ruin everything that is even remotely enjoyable. Ex: "funky 4" I always found them amusing. I liked watching the other teams reactions when they saw a bunch of fat old black dudes getting down and funky. Now they are "sponsored" by FedEx. The commercial takes up over 1/2 their time. Ruining an enjoyable part of the game for a couple extra bucks.

The stadium is a very ugly, poorly put together hunk of garbage with a bunch of advertisements plastered allover the place. I'm surprised the urinal cakes are not sponsored by someone.

The "improvements" that have been done over the years look like something MacGyver would put together. Use some duct tape, 3-in one oil, 30 wt. ball bearings and some gauze pads and move on.

I guess the last line got to me,"less hogs and more pigs". Everyone here has made good points however. I don't know. I guess I just love being around other Skins fans and seem to overlook the bs stuff. Oh well. I live in South Florida but I always fly up for at least one game a year. I'm always so excited to be there. The alcohol consumption may also have something to do with it. :D

I am exiled in Philly and got offered tickets to the game agaisnt the Eagles last year on Sunday night. I guess being on the season tix waiting list you get some options to buy the other teams unused tix. Anyway, excitedly I bought them and took my dear old Dad for his birthday - we sat behind a column and it took two hours to get to the car, which cost 25 to park.

I think that sucked. Would I do it again? IN a heartbeat.

They have columns in seating view? I thought that died with fenway/comiskey/wrigley and such.

I have been to FedEx twice, and enjoyed it both times, but having been to Gillette, I feel we are missing out on somethings.
