Geeeeezzzz! So you are in the business of Hognosticating a disastrous season already? Go ahead, make my day! Post your predictions AGAINST the Redskins and put your name under them in the Hognostications thread and section.

One thing is to vent after a BAD game. Quite another to lose hope or underestimate the heart and mental or physical strength of the entire team.

Come on guys, we DID have worse games than this one last season. Anybody remember the loss against the Gints in NY? You should. The Sky actually fell that day. It just did NOT MATTER because a season is not decided on a single game.

This would be funny if it was only venting. It is sad about the kind of fans we have if you are serious. Snap out of it!
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

9-7 or 10-6 just b/c we have a tough schedule. I'll pick 9-7 or 10-6 after the next game. :)

Great ending point wbbradb. Everybody's all buddy buddy with Brad Johnson after the game. I don't mind "Nice game, good to see ya," but that should be all. In my break down of the season there were five should win games(Vikes, Titans, Texans, Saints, Rams), five tough ones to win(Colts, Bucs, Jaguars, Panthers, Falcons) and the five division games. You win the first 5, go 2-3 in the next five and go 3-3 in the division to get you to 10-6, which is what I thought would happen before yesterday. Now I'm not nearly as confident about 10-6 as I was on Monday at 6:59. I'm afraid this team lacks the cubes and skill it takes to pull out close games. Taylor's penalties, the inabilty to score touchdowns from inside the 10, and a poor kicker are the types of deficiences that turn a 10-6 season into a 7-9 one.

we started out 3-0 last year. at no point in the season did we look as bad as we did tonight. even when we lost to oakland last year, at least the defense was playing very well. we sucked complete ass tonight pretty much across the board.
[/quote]

You don't feel that even when we lost 35-0 to the Giants we looked bad??? Take a look at other teams that are considered to be top teams in the NFL this year. Some people have the Dolphins going to the Super Bowl, they lose, and Culpepper looked bad doing so, not to mention they lost to Charlie Batch. Seattle, well, they beat Detroit by 3, and didn't score a TD against them. Denver loses to St. Louis by scoring 10 points, and coughing up 5 turnovers. Patriots win with a late safety at home against Buffalo, a safety in which 30 other QB's in the league probably wouldn't have taken. Tampa Bay, shut-out at home, enough said. Panthers give up 250+ yards rushing at home and lose, don't even score a TD. Cowboys lose to Jacksonville, and cough up 3 turnovers doing so as well.

With that being said, these were all teams that were predicted to do well enough to make the playoffs, yet in the first week didn't exactly look like a "lock" for the playoffs. As others have said, this was the first game they have played as a team from start to finish. I will never jump ship, and would never predict us going 5-11 either. At this point, these predictions are absurd, I thought Skins fans were better, and weren't fair-weather fans. I see them all the time up here in Philly, didn't think that was the case in DC, but maybe I am wrong. I know I will support this team througout the year.
My children, gather round! No retreat, no surrender; that is Spartan law. And by Spartan law we will stand and fight... and die. A new age has begun. An age of freedom, and all will know, that 300 Spartans gave their last breaths to defend it!

The Dolphins lost to the defending Super Bowl champs on the road. Seattle played like crap but still managed to pull out a tight win on the road, with their kicker actually making a positve difference on the road. After the game they addressed their offensive deficieny by trading for Branche. They also lost their best olineman in free agency and had a rookie starting on their line. Denver lost on the road, not at home. Carolina was without their best offensive player and played a very good team. The Cowboys lost on the road to a playoff team from last year. We, on the other hand, played like crap at home and lost to a non-playoff team from last season so our loss doesn't compare to all of those that you mentioned.

10-6

The offense is better than last year's. I like how they looked last night (other than the problems in the red zone). The defense will be able to blitz again once Springs returns. All will be good.

Sunday...Sean Taylor's going to make TO swallow his teeth. GO SKINS!

4-12

Way too many glaring weaknesses that can't be fixed this season. Mainly on defense. You can't let quality players leave your team year after year and not expect it to bite your a$$!! reference Pierce and smoot. We have no consistency at the QB position were it is needed most. And the pleasant surprise coming from last nights game was how PATHETIC Carlos Rodgers is as a CB!! He is a First round pick and can't cover?? Don't get me started on this Andre Carter but if the 2-14 49ers didn't want him, then what the hell did the braintrust see in this guy??? Long season indeed and I'm sure Gibbs will hang it up after this. Sad

This makes no sense - Pierce and Smoot were gone last season too, and the 'skins still added 4 to the win total, plus a playoff win. No way they drop 6 more games his year. NO WAY.

Portis is a stud and we need the line to open up holes for him and these guys aren't doing it. Whatever yards he does get is pretty much all him. They don't pass block that well either. Portis is there meanest blocker and that is sad.

I can't explain what happened last night at all, but the O-line is usually much better than this. I don't think they all got old and slow overnight, and I expect they'll be much better than this next week and onward.

I wish I were as optimistic as you are, but it seems to me the OL has only mediocre players on it. Janson hasn't played well for two years and Samuels has clearly slipped; he's had a couple of highly praised comebacks that occured more in the press than in the field, but he's never opened holes and now every now and then looks old on pass blocks.
Thomas, also, has been overrated for a couple of years; Casey's only OK, and the Big Guy is still one of the league's screwups waiting to happen.

I'd also like to have as much faith in management and the coaches that some of you guys do but what I see is atrocious special teams and an incredible lack of kickers. I simply don't believe in the judgement of folks whose kicking game would be poor even for the better college teams.

It also totally freaked me out that Cartwright was returning kickoffs. Last year, there was a high school kid in my district who is a better kick returner (named Harvin) than Cartwright. It unbelievable to me that anyone thinks Cartwright is a kick return on the NFL level (and I am a Cartwright fan). It reeks of irresponsibility.

I'm also amazed that Williams desperately wanted to get rid of Arrington
and use Holdman again, even after it was demonstrated to everyone in the nation last year that Arrington was much, much better than Holdmman. Also, what's with Archie? Did Williams blow that call too.

Don't even talk to me about Gibbs hanging onto Brunell and starting him injured in the playoffs last year and how letting Brunell take a good healthy shot at throwing the season away, like he did in year one, and then blew the playoffs away last yearl. Every time I think of Gibbs and
Brunell, I think of Steve and Danny.

Sellers was a top runner in the CFL and still has not carried the ball once for the Skins in the regular season. Amazing. Cooley and Lloyd were basically unused in the opening loss, and rookies and second stringers looked better than Carter. Have we been taken again? High draft choices Rogers and Campbell looked bad and sat on the bench respectively.

Here's list of touted acquistions who were underwhelming and, mostly, unused.

Lloyd
Arch
Rogers
Campbell
Patten
Carter
Cooley

We've also lost Ramsey (got Collins instead), Arrington (got Holdman instead), and Clark (got Arch instead).

That's ten player of skill and potential either lost, playing badly, or not playing at all.

My fellow Skin Fans. It's the coaching.

The special teams situation really has be worried. I honestly think that we might have the worst kicker/punter combo in the NFL. To not even bring in any serious competition for these guys in the offseason was assinine to say the least. You can't miss field goals, kickoff short, and punt inconsistantly and expect to win close games. As for Cartwright returning kicks, I don't really even know what to say about that. I love the guy as a back but as a kick returner he stinks. He simply doesn't have the speed to hit the holes that the blockers create. I figured that Randle El would've been returning kicks but I guess only punts. Denny Smith needs to get his act together or he needs to go.

Well now that we've lost the first game, 16-0 is out, so 15-1.

U really think that, don't get me wrong I still think we have a good team, just with our schedule that will be hard (12-4).
Here's who we have out of the division
Jaguars
Bucs (okay they lost to the Ravens bad,) but they r normally good and the Pats lost 34-0 and their opener and won the superbowl.
Colts
Panthers- They lost but the Falcons r a good team (IMO) and they were missing Steve Smith. They r also normally good.
Falcons
Saints- I think there a sleeper team, Bush, Mcalister, Brees (who I really liked since his days at Perdue, if he didn't have such crappy recievers in college his stats would have been a lot better) and Horn.
I am not saying those r definite losses but those could be losses.
our division
Giants twice
Eagles twice
Cowboys twice- I think were a better team but the Cowboys have always gave us trouble in the past. I will never say a win over dallas is definite.

i'm not trying to be psychic here, i'm saying right now we are a 7-9 caliber team. we certainly should be able to get better, and if they earn respect with their next performance, i'll up my prediction. i'm not just going to hand out an 11-5 record to a team that played like a 7-9 team.

If Brunell stays at the helm for any length of time, we'll finish 6 and 10. If
Campbell takes over soon, I think we'll have a shot at the playoff. Maybe 10 and 6.

Sticking with 11-5. Of course if you follow my hognostication picks we would be 16-0.

Funny... just take out the Campbell and insert the name Ramsey and we have the gist of most of your 2005 posts.

Funny how Brunell was actually the one to take us to 10-6 though. :hmm:
