Goaline Offense/Duckett

Post by ArmyHog »

Just a question.........

We had something like 2nd and 3 from the 4 yard line and did not get in. Instead John Hall got a field goal. Where in the world was T.J. Duckett???? Didn't we trade to get this guy???? I know he may be learning the offense, but I am sure he learned how to take the ball from 4 yards out and get in the end zone. This guy was a TD machine in ATL.

What about Mike Sellers???? He looked good rushing in the preseason. What about Christian Fauria???? What about Brandon Lloyd and his leaping abilities???

All these weapons and we did not get in. This will be a season stopper if we continue to kick field goals in the red zone.

All I know is our team lacks a killer instinct, among MANY other things that i wont go into right now.

Very good point, but there are so many players on this offense you can almost say why didnt they give the ball to so and so instead of a field goal on every play?? Moss did have 6 in his hands but was broken up by a great defensive play. On the other hand, Duckett lined up on the 4 with Sellers in front looks good to me....

Maybe these 2 words explains what happened last night. "Vanilla" + "2%"?

I was very disappointed with the Redskins play last night. Seems that only Randle El and Portis showed up on the offense and Washington on the defense.

All of the praise for Betts was just smoke. Did anyone else notice that he paused at the line of scrimmage almost every time he ran the ball, and got tackled. Bad habit!

As someone else said, it is only the first game. But....if the Redskins play like this week in and week out, it is going to be a long season and a high draft pick in the next draft. I sincerely hope not.

What happened to play action to sellers? Or Cooley? The Red Zone play calling was pathetic last night. Hopefully that was our team at their worst. Although I couldnt help but wonder what we could do with Johnson at the helm? I am still not convinced Brunell will get us to the promised land.

That's the beauty of the 16-game season. He'll make a believer outta you!!

As for the goal line calls, yes they were kinda crappy. However, it was the protection that wasn't there, and the one time we really had a shot to score. Santana got his bell rung. That was a stoopid hit!!! :?

i agree with the brunell thing,
i didnt think he was on the ball last night,
he overlooked alot of recievers and went short most of the night.

also, we started our drives well..
but as soon as we got close to goal line we choked

we came up with a lot of 3's... :?

Honestly, I was suprised/a little angry that we didn't even look for Cooley in the RedZone last night.

Remember last year those dominant rollouts where Cooley would run a drag in the endzone and Sellers would be there incase Mark had to dump it off? Well where was that.

Last night we kept throwing it to the WR's, which is what we did in '04 when we never scored.

Hopefully Joe Gibbs will urge Saunders to go down that road again.

PS: Whatever happened to Sean Taylor lining up at WR in the RedZone??? He's perfect for the role:
1)He's gigantic- 6'2" 230
2)He has excelecnt ball skills
3)He's got the mean streak and determination to come down with the ball.

Agreed. I was asking last night in EVERY short yardage situation, "Where is Duckett?" Instead they had Betts in there. Why wasn't another big guy like Sellers in there? Betts isn't a pound it through the line running back! HEY JOE, GET T.J. IN THERE!!!

In his press conference, Gibbs said that no situation arose that warranted playing Duckett.

Not his exact words, but that;s the jist of it.

Exactly. 1 of 4 inside the 10. Couldn't hold on 3rd & long.

on the joe gibbs show tonight he said they had slated duckett for the red zone "jumbo" package, but just never ended up using it. hopefully that will be remedied this week! we need some friggin touchdowns.

Is it me, or does it seem that Joe Gibbs doesn't have the killer instinct that most coaches show. I remember from the earlier years that i thought the same thing. Don't get me wrong he is a winner but never has run up a score very often and I think he could have at times...
