fred smoot?
I have heard a lot of people dog smoot and say he isnt a sloid #1 or #2 cb. I disagree though, and im gonna go on a limb and say under our new defensive coaching staff and the way they will help a young guy like smoot I have him making the probowl in 2 years. I mean the guy gives it his all week in and week out. I new the man had a huge heart when he played those few games with major injuries. That showed a lot of character fight in him and thats what a TRUE redskin really has.
what do yall think?

Smoot's lead the team in INT's each of his first 3 seasons. I think he's the first Redskin to do that. He will do really good this year.

As much as Smoot deserved to go to Hawaii this year and will next season, chances are he won't unless he manages to get like 10 picks or something. The NFL needs to create stricter pro bowl voting standards because half the people voting are people who dont know anything about football and are just voting for the big name superstars. For example, as much as I love LaVar Arrington, he simply did not have as good of a season as Julian Peterson. But who got more votes? Smoot will make the Pro Bowl eventually but not until he gets some love from the media.

Unfortuantely that is true. I do disagree about Arrington. I think he goes beyond stats.
You're right! Did you see what Arrington did in the ProBowl? He was a beast, he didn't make it because of his stats, he made because of what he brings to the field. Alot of people said he didn't deserve to be there, but nobody had a negative thing to say afterwards. He proved everyone wrong.

Look I love Smoot he has made it on shear heart and desire because he lacks in other areas. He has benifited from having a great CB on the other side of him. I look forward to seeing him step his game up this year with Springs on the other side he'll have to.

i think there will be no team (save maybe the patsies) that will get more media attention this year than the redskins. furthermore, with the departure of bailey, which was obviously a big media event, i think the media will pay close attention to smoot. every time he makes a play or gets beat, it'll be "smoot has been forced to take on the load of being the number one corner on the redskins, and right there he [stepped up big] or [let his team down].
if he steps up often enough, he definitely could get enough recognition from the fans, players and coaches to make the probowl.

I think you are right - Smootie is the kind of player Gibbs wants to build his team around - heart, desire and tenacity. I hope he makes it to the Pro Bowl, but I bet he would rather make it to the Super Bowl.

smoot is the man. he's probably my favorite current player as of right now.(ramsey was my fav until the whining)
no offense, but i still don't think arrington deserved to be there. yea, he played a great game IN the pro bowl, but not standout game during the season. the votes are supposed to be for the top players at each position during the season.... and lavar did not match that criteria. he made the pro bowl strictly on reputation alone. the pro bowl is a load of BS, and nothing more than a popularity contest IMO.ANT7088 wrote:Texas Redskin wrote:Redskins4Life wrote: Smoot will make the Pro Bowl eventually but not until he gets some love from the media.

Smoot and Springs should compliment each other nicely, I think Smoot makes the pro bowl within the next 2 seasons. This might be the type of defense he really breaks out with a great season.
As for Arrington I think his numbers were good, as for great.... I don't know about that. I completely agree with "666", the Pro Bowl is more like the Pro "Bull", half of the time. That's with every sport though, I'm just happy that we have him there to represent us every year. I think this year he'll earn his spot entirely.
Back to Smoot, sure Champ had a lot to do with his early success, but he may benefit even more without him. Sounds crazy, huh? Well I think that having two solid corners and a better D-line opposed to having one shut down & solid corner and no d-line is a hell of a lot better. We have people that can hurt the opposing teams rushing ability and get hurries and pressures with the pass rush... will give Smoot even better odds of having a better odds of a blow out season. Last year I saw way too many times were Qb's might as well had a lazy boy kicked up behind their Offensive line. The better our D line gets the more rounded off and tougher we get. Throw a D-line draft pick in the mix(Harris,Udeze or Wilfork) or S Sean Taylor and were even that much better regardless of who it is as long as they can contribute in some type of capasity. Things are defenity looking up in Hog country!

I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.
