Hello?! Did anyone see that we traded for CB Mike Rumph from San Francisco? The guy's a former number one draft pick who has plenty of starting experience (he's just been hurt). The guy had 64 tackles, 3 INT in '03 which is the only season he really was healthy for. This is a problem but not a big one. Wright will play better than he did in Cinci and Christian Morton looked good. RELAX!!! It's not like he's gone for the season. He could even be back for the Dallas game to cover TO. We are fine, just a little bad luck with some key guys (Portis and Springs).

Just like Portis, I'm praying he returns by Opening Day.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Springs is a vet, has played in this D for 2 years, keeps himself in shape and studies hard. So poor physical conditioning and mental preparation shouldn't be an issue.

Secondly, it'll give Rumph, Wright, et al more playing time in TC.

I just hope the injury bugs leaves Redskin Park by September.

By the way, the report now is that this is an abdominal muscle, not a groin. Nice "scoop" Larry.

I don't want him to rush his rehab but I would like for him to be ready by the time the season starts.

The coaching staff really dropped the ball on this one. On 980 they said that Springs had an MRI done for this injury a few days prior to the Cincinati game. If there were indications that he wasn't 100% why on earth would they let him play? And why would GW have had him blitzing? Injuries are part of the game but there is no point in taking risks with the health of your stars. On the radio they also mentioned that the recovery for this type of injury is 3-6 weeks.

Ok, it's September 5th. Is there anyone other than me, a little worried about this injury at this point? Not that he can't heal up quickly, but rather sustaining good health throughout the season? He's had some injuries and missed games in the past.

What are you worried about? They said it'd take 6 weeks to heal at least, its been 3 so far? Give it time.

I don't see why Rumph or Jimoh wouldn't take his place and we play a bit more nickle packages.

Don't look for cornerback Shawn Springs on the field when the Washington Redskins open the season Monday night against Minnesota. Asked if he was going to be recovered from Aug.15 abdominal surgery in time to face the Vikings and old running mate Fred Smoot, Springs smiled wistfully and shook his head.
"They said it was going to be three-to-six weeks, and it's three weeks today," Springs said. "It's getting better, but ..."
With Springs out, former Viking Kenny Wright will continue to start opposite Carlos Rogers, as he did in the final three preseason games. Mike Rumph and Ade Jimoh are Washington's other corners.

Im not shocked. We'll be fine. Its definately going to take a bit of sting out of our defense IF Williams doesn't feel he can trust Rogers and the other guy on an island.

I'm not too worried. Come week 7 of the season we'll forget that this was ever an issue. The Skins lost Matt Bowen for an entire season due to an injury in the preseason, and the rest of the defense played so well (Ryan Clark) that Bowen never came back for us again.

I'm not saying that we should worry but comparing Springs to Bowen is pretty rediculous. Ryan Clark was an upgrade over Bowen imo and in no way is Rogers or Wright an upgrade over Springs.

While I agree with you in general my point is that, while it make take Springs a week or two to get on to the field, he will not be the reason that we win / lose any games. So, in week 8 when we're cruising toward the playoffs and our defense in dominating, hardly anyone will remember that Springs actually missed the first two weeks of the season.

I am not worried about Springs healing from the surgery, but rather him staying healthy AFTER his recovery and throughout the season.

BTW - The reason for this concern, from my perspective, is that we are not deep at CB.

We have safeties who have played/can play CB and LB's who have played safety. I think coverage wont be the issue. Whether or not we can generate a pass rush to aid our pass coverage is the question.

Luckily the first game is against the Vikings, who are starting Brad "Deadarm" Johnson at QB and Travis Taylor as a wideout....
