Peter King predicts: Redskins 8-8, Dallas over Indianapolis

Post by dredg »

After his Vikings to the super bowl prediction last year, and never being anywhere close in general, it's more of a kiss of death then anything else...

4. Washington, 8-8: I am violating a very intelligent mantra about preseason football. "Ignore whatever you see in the preseason,'' Phil Simms says. "It means nothing.'' Maybe. But to me, this means something: With a new play-caller, Al Saunders, taking over the architecture of the offense for the first time in Joe Gibbs' head-coaching career, Washington's first-team offense had the ball for five quarters of the preseason and scored zero points. Five quarters, 14 drives, no touchdowns, no field goals. Simms will probably be laughing at me in November, when Washington's 10-0 and running away with the division. But even with Clinton Portis returning in seven days for the opener, I don't have a lot of confidence in this offense.

Super Bowl: Dallas over Indianapolis.

8-8 Ha, I don't think so. Does King Peter have a clue. If this team slips and goes backwards we might just see Joe Gibbs step farther back. A man of his word, we all know that Gibbs will fullfill his five year contract. How about 10-6, good enough for a share of the NFC East title

Over the last couple years when AS was at KC I believe KC had a 1 and 7 preseason record but in the regular season we all know KC was a very good offensive team.

I don't see how that works here.

Here's my King-to-English translation: "Al Saunders was supposed to bring this great shifting, air-it-out, audible, exciting offense to Washington. They never went in motion once in the preseason. . .and their offense was about as exciting as vanilla ice cream all preseason!

p.s. I love Dallas"

At least Peter King stopped kissing Bill Parcells's butt long enough to write his preview.

Predicting an 8-8 record is a such a weenie cop out. Why not go 9-7 or 7-9 and at least make it seem like you've examined the schedule and calculated wins and losses?

I think he's got a serious crush on Philly too, since he picked them to finish better than us, and they were awful last year.

I don't either. Any one who picks the Pukes to reach the SB with their O-line is smoking something.

Since our D is improved, last year we were 10-6 and the offense was only good in flashes, the offense would have to be actually worse than last year to drop to 8-8. I'm not getting the logic. Even if they take time to develop under Saunders, the offense was only good in flashes.

I just meant that it's amazing he had enough time to even write out an article with all the time he spends kissing Tuna's big fat butt.

I don't put any stock in what those biased morons at SI say about the Redskins or any of their NFC East counterparts. Let them pick a team with no offensive line and the worst teammate in sports history to win the Super Bowl.

We can all laugh about it in late December when Jerry Jones has fired Parcells and we're all planning what to do during our bye week :)

And I meant that he still had his lips pressed firmly against Parcells' posterior as he wrote the article.

In all seriousness, that tank job during the preseason really fooled everyone, didn't it? I bet Peter King and the others wouldn't have picked this team to finish 8-8 before this preseason, but now, we've seen expectations lowered a ton - from Super Bowl contenders (which he called us at the end of last year) to barely a .500 team who won't even make the playoffs! I can't wait to see the real Redskins prove them all wrong.

I find it easier to be in this position than in the favored position. It will be just so much nicer when we're on top of the division and all those smug Dallas and Giants fans have to make lame excuses about injuries or bad calls or how the sun got in their eyes.

I can't wait to read the papers and web pages a week from this morning.
