Lions cut WR Rogers, No. 2 pick in 2003

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Lions cut WR Rogers, No. 2 pick in 2003

NFL.com wire reports

DETROIT (Sept. 2, 2006) -- Charles Rogers was cut by the Detroit Lions, three years after they drafted the receiver second overall.

Rogers' Detroit career ended with only 36 receptions for 440 yards and four touchdowns along with two broken collarbones and a four-game suspension.

First-year coach Rod Marinelli was unimpressed by Rogers work ethic and production during training camp, when he was slowed by a sore knee. The new staff also did not have a history with Rogers like team president Matt Millen, who helped draft the former Michigan State star and gave him a $14.2 million signing bonus.

Wooooahh....

I think whoever gets him will strike gold. He's been plagued with injuries but with the right coach/system I think he'll thrive. My 2 cents

His #'s are only a little better than Jacobs. It's players like him that make me not want to trade to move up in a draft.

and they took him over andre johnson. those two were supposed to be the best in that draft. i think houston got the better player. rogers never showed anything except how to get hurt. and not to mention two of his 4 td's came against arizona in 03, and that secondary was atrocious.

Has anybody signed him?

If not, that's pretty telling.

No, but I hear that the Redskisn are interested. Of course, according to the media, the Redskins are interested in every single free agent on the market.

Let's keep in mind, too, that he played for Millen and the Lions. Talk about lack of motivation.

I'm with Chris, he may just pan out in a different system.
Back and better than ever!

Draft busts are a fact of life. Sean Taylor was a top 10 pick, and he's definitely living up to that status, so no all top picks are busts, obviously. One thing about draft picks, though, is that, unless we're talking about the top 5 or so, they're generally cheaper than free agents, so you lose less if they go bust.
