Archuleta
Has anybody actually been impressed with Archuleta this preseason? I just got back from the game and I spent a lot of time watching Archuleta and I have to say that I am not very impressed so far. He has been terrible so far and I'm starting to wonder if it was a mistake to let Ryan Clark go and give Archuleta a big payday. He seems like a solid tackler but the guy has no coverage skills whatsoever. That td was his fault (not Rogers') as he was late coming over to help. Also I think he was the 12th man on that fieldgoal penalty because he looked like he was getting chewed out after the play. He also got beat on another play but luckily Boller overthrew his receiver or it would've been another td for the Ravens. Hopefully this guy gets better when the season starts.

Thats what I'm Screamin. Losing Ryan Clark was a negative this off-season however Ryan Clark wanted a big salary and he often gets stiff armed by strong backs and wideouts, I'm hoping along with the Redskins coaching staff that Adam Archuleta gets nasty and mean out there, if so I know he's a better tackler than Clark and can improve his coverage skills by getting faster and increasing his knowledge and comfort within this defense I have to say I think GW will send Archuleta and Marcus Washington on at least 4 or 5 blitzes a game.
HAIL
Yeah, well Archuleta is not a cover safety.
Have any of you guys thought that since it's just the Pre-Season that maybe GW is just moving AA around to see what he can and can't do...
I mean, I bet once the regular season starts, AA will be playing a lot more zone, being a big part of the run coverage and of course blitzing.

That's certaintly possible. Not sure if you watched the game tonight but the coaches left him in there much longer than any other defender. I could be wrong but to me it looked like the GW was trying to send him the message that he needs to step up his play. To me it doesn't really make any sense to have let a guy like Clark go to sign a one-dimensional player like Archuleta for much more money.
Clark is a better player and we could have kept him for about 1/5th of what we gave Archuletta.
After tonight's game I'm wishing we had re-signed Clark and used the Archuletta money on Adam Vinatieri...

Well...I can't say that Ive been enthused with aritchoke either but a few things come to mind.
1. First in foremost, is the lack of scheming going on due to it being preseason.
2. He's a SS, not a FS. He's kinda like our Roy Williams.
He like Roy aren't good in coverage but have solid LOS skills.
3. Artichoke let up on that play last night in the endzone. Even my anti-Skins fans noticed that he didn't blast #85 into space. Artichoke could have tried to jar the ball loose but I believe he just chipped his shoulder due to it being preseason.
I think he'll light it up.

i noticed that too and thought the same thing. seems like a clear message to me, why else would you leave the one expensive starter in during the last preseason game?

I think (& hope) you're right there, JH. I also think that this guy is a "leader" and will be setting an example for the younger guys on and off the field. I think this guy will help the team this year.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

First off, there is no sane way that you can compare Archuletta to Roy Williams. Williams is 2X the player AA will ever be. If the skins are really serious about playing the best guy, then the Starting safeties should be Taylor and Prioleau. I love the way the franchise is being run and the direction that we are headed, but my prediction is that this Archuletta signing will turn into a huge fiasco and be the worst move Gibbs will make in his return. I am always wearing the rose colored glasses, but making AA the highest paid safety in NFL history is an unabashed joke.

I think RR and Adam are comparable since they're basically the same player. They both excel at the LOS and are terriffic at run stopping. Also, they both have the same issue, they couldn't cover a nickel with a parachute. lol. So, yes they are comparable, nobody said either was better than the other.

At least he doesn't hold that distinction anymore. Roy Williams got a bigger deal recently.
Though you can't take much from the recent contract signings. A LOT more money was been added to the salary cap for this season, and the result is contracts across the board have been higher than what we've seen.

Re: Archuleta
You hit everything on the head, this guy is a faster Matt Bowen. Remember two years ago when Matt came out balling with a few sacks and some big hits, then teams started putting him in coverage and he got exposed. He cant cover and he will be a liability all season. We really over paid for him

I didn't see the game but many of you posters shouldn't make judgements based on preseason games. The heart of our defense is Griffin. If we don't have that guy in the game we don't play good defense. It showed last season. When our 1st team DLine is back against the Vikes, watch the back 7 fly around. AA will be a super run stopper, better than Clark. Sean is the FS and can cover deep. Clark was not big enough to be a super effective run stopper/blitzer. and for those of you saying we overpaid, heck, we always over pay but we get the guys we want (e.g., randal el).
I'm more worried about our OLine and CB depth, especially as we wait for Springs to return.

AA and the most overated player in the NFL (Yes, Roy Williams the DB not the WR) are very much a like. The closer you keep them the the LOS the better. Neither one are any good in coverage and I still don't understand why that Cowgirl gets all the hype.

Dude, why do all you guys say stuff like this.
First off you look like anything but Redskin fans.
Second, when Archuleta is a blitzing machine and stuffing the run and knocking the crap out of people you guys will all look like morons.
Relax, it's the preseason. You know, the season where games DON'T count and where you try out things to see if they might work during the Regular season where games DO count.
Think about it, aren't you all happy that AA(suposedly) got burned IN THE PRESEASON where we lost the game, but yet we are still undefeated.
Now he won't get burned on 9/11 when the TD's will count...
Come on, think about it.

Fair enough Luva Luva!...I'm just frustrated that we gave this guy so much money. It is reminding me of the days when Dan Snyder's MO went something like this:
Snyder: "Ok, how much do you want?"
Player/agent: "5 million please"
Snyder: "Ok, how about this...I'll give you 20 million."
