Portis Injury Status and Opener
Hey Hogs What Up?
I drafted Portis in both my FFLs and gotta know what the inside scoop is? Is he expected to make it for week 1? I got him down for 1500 yards on the year but expect his TD numbers will probably go down with Duckett now. What do you anticipate with the offense that Saunders has brought in? Of course, I would love for it to look like the old Chiefs running attack, but don't believe your Oline is that good. You tell me. Any thoughts would be appreciative.
As for Monday Night..... GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES. The Vikes will not disappoint us in MN. Granted we are not the star studded offense of past, but slow and steady with a heavy hittin' D should rock the HOGS and the VIKES WIN 24 - 13.

Portis will be ready for that game.
Redskins went 6-0 at home vs. the NFC last year and have the longest opening day winning streak in the NFL and you have the Vikings coming into our house on a Monday night and beating us by double digits?
Let me know if you need a bookie.
Redskins easy.

This is a homer's opinion....so take it as such.
I think that CP's overall numbers are going to improve. I think that his yards per carry and TD's will go up.
Al Saunders always liked to have a 1, 2 Punch and thats exactly what he has with Portis and Duckett. Duckett will take away some of his carries, but none of his explosiveness.
The Skins line isn't as good as the Chiefs of the last five years, its true. However, we have something that the Chiefs have never had, and thats five wideouts who can flat out run and catch. Our passing game will clear more room and will create much more fear than the Chief's ever has. This respect will create room for backs to not only run, but also to catch the ball. This is where I think Portis will really shine. He has the skill set to be dangerous as a receiving back, but has never had a system where he was used in such a way. And when you come down to it I don't think that the drop off between the Skins and the Chiefs line is as great as people make it out to be.

I think our O line is 1st rate. They did an excellent job when you consider that opposing D's could really crowd the box against us last yr.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the thoughts on CP!! I forgot about your upgraded receivers which should hopefullly allow a little more breathing room for the rushing game. I'm still thinking that TJ is going to steal some of the goal line carries, which I'm not excited about for FF. However, if I were a Redskins fan, I wouldn't mind them breaking up the carries a little bit.
As far as Monday night... I originally was thinking that the Skins would walk over us, however it doesn't seem but your preseason has been horrible. Now I recognize it is preseason, so who cares.... but man alive... 41-0... OUCH!! And losing to the Jets couldn't have been fun either, although again I don't know the details of the games except for Brady shredding your highly touted D. You may squeeze out a victory, but I doubt it will be an easy game for you. You never know, maybe you'll get lucky like you did against the Boys last year and Moss will erupt like a mad man toward the end of the game. We have new coaches, new players, and new schemes on both sides of the ball, so I'm not expecting us to look as sharp as we will in 5-6 weeks. Good luck to you and I'll be back for you to eat crow if we win by double digits... $%#@, I'll be back if we win at all.

Welcome to the site Vikes Fan and hope you do come back and contribute after losing the opener.
We are a much improved team from last year (as are most teams) and expectations are high here (as with most teams). I certainly hope that we see an improved Vikings team from the last few seasons and especially that group that was here the last time your team was in town.
As I recall, one of your players liked our visitors changing room so much he left the field early to get his choice of showers - or maybe he was hoping to ride in the front of the bus with the driver

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

funny, I was coming over to check on the same thing with my drafts coming up next week.
You guys really think he'll be ready to go full bore week 1, and can last the duration of the season with the dinged up shoulder? 1 good pop and it could be worse than it ever was before. That scares me as a potential fantasy owner.
I do like the potential, if he can last the duration of the season.
What have you guys seen from Saunders offense? I could tell you just about anything you could want to know. In KC, the O-Line didnt necessarily have to be the biggest, their specialty was pulling and having the Tackles and Guards out in front leading up the sidelines. We have probably the best pulling center in Weigmann, and Waters and Shields are two of the best at getting out in front and leading the ball-carrier. That's why our backs have thrived so much in the system.
Never used too much of our FB, but T-Rich again was one of the best lead-blocking on running plays. And then Jason Dunn and Gono at tight-end were also very effective run-blockers.
And I think you're underestimating what our receivers did on the field. I mean none of these guys are all-out studs, but guys like Kennison, Morton, Boerigter, Parker have all had quiet but decent seasons. With as solid as the running game was, the passing game always benefited and exceeded expectations. And while
ey is a good ball-catcher, he isn't Tony Gonzalez.
I do like you're receiving weapons, and would love to have any of those guys playing for the Chiefs. When Green first came to the Chiefs, he really struggled his first couple years, even earning the nicname Tr'int' from some of our own. The line was getting acquainted to the offense, and he consistently had guys in his face. When he was rushed, he made poor decisions and if you look, had more INTs at the beginning of his Chiefs career until he became more comfortable in the offense and with the guys around him.
From the little I've seen of the Skins in the preseason, it looks to me like they are still trying to adjust. But like I said, with the talent at your skill positions, this is a ideal destination for a guy like Saunders. Portis will thrive in this system in my opinion, and I think once Brunell becomes more comfortable, this could develop into one of the more potent offenses in the league.

Two things.
!. You need to review Joe Gibbs preseason record. It won't reassure you... it's horrible. Gibbs uses preseason to evaluate talent, and to work on specific areas. To him, a win in preseason is just a bonus.
2. What team went 0-4 last season, and got whomped 36-0 in one game? (hint... they have a brand new Vince Lombardi trophy)
Double digits? Don't hold your breath.
