Should I be happy with my Fantasy team?

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Should I be happy with my Fantasy team?

Post by JPFair »

O.K. The Draft was held today, and I think I go lucky on a few picks, and a few fell to me that I wasn't expecting. For the most part, I got a couple who I had "pre-ranked", but there's one GLARING problem.

Here's my team:

QB- Peyton Manning
RB-Curtis Martin
RB/WR Braylon Edwards
WR-Anquoin Boldin
WR- Brandon Lloyd
TE- Chris Cooley
DEF- Baltimore Ravens
K- Shane Graham

I have a formidable bench that consists of Michael Vick, Brett Favre, Kellen Winslow, Mwelde Moore, Charlie Frye, Jerrius Norwood (RB), Brian Calhoun (RB) and a kicker from Detroit. I'm happy with Graham, so he's not a concern.

I have depth at every positioin except running back. Can anyone give me the 411 on Curtis Martin? Is he healthy? What kind of a year should he have? I'm ready to trade Vick and Favre for a big plamaking RB. Anyone know of any "diamonds in the rough" RB that I can shoot for. I think Lee Suggs is available, so I might pick him up and drop Charlie Frye.

Anybody have any thoughts on this team?

From what I've heard, Martion is on the verge of retirement. He has supposedly gone so far as to tell the Jets to draft a RB in this past draft. You might be in deep doo doo.

According to SportingNews.com, "The Jets put Martin on the PUP list Tuesday, so he will be sidelined for the first six weeks of the regular season." Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I can't believe I get a starting lineup of Peyton Manning, Braylon Edwards, Anquoin Boldin, Chris Cooley, Brandon Lloyd, Ravens Defense, and Shane Graham as a kicker, and then thry throw Curtis Martin at me. I have Mwelde Moore and Jerrius Norwood on the bench, but they're both second string running backs. I might have to package a deal with Vick and Winslow to try and get a featured back. I did pick up Ladell Betts off of waivers considering he's going to get some playing time, so it might not be too big of a mess that I'm in.

Could be worse JP, I have Priest Holmes as a reserve RB. I'm a little thin at WR and I don't have a serviceable TE in my opinion, unless someone tells me that Marcus Pollard is actually decent.

In my other league, I have no RB at all. My starting running back is Ladell Betts, to give you an idea. My two QBs, however, are McNabb and Culpepper. I have Cooley in that league as well.

Cooley is going to be a TD machine in this offense. But, why are they throwing out RB's who are either out or on IR for the year. I mean, they gave me Curits Martin as my starting RB. Betts might be a good pickup cuz I think they wanna limit Ports's carries this year, and he'd be a good reserve to have, although with Duckett in the picture it lessens his value now.

Well, since you asked for my thoughts, I guess I'll give them to you.

Your team is garbage.

Sorry about it, but it's true. Normally, I don't post in the Fantasy Football threads because I hate when people ask for help, but I think you really need some. Rule number one in fantasy football is to have at least 2/3 good RB's... you have none.

But I do like Peyton and Cooley. But Anquan already has Larry Fitz and Edge on his team, I love my boy Lloyd but he'll probably only get a 50 catches this year, and everyone knows Curtis Martin is going to retire.

Even though I like Peyton, I would trade him and one of your backups for a decent starter (ie Marc Bulger who is goint into the ulitmate Fantasy system with a great offense and then get a good RB out of the deal too)

And oh yeah, drop Brett Farve, he's garbage too.

Well, if you look at my original post, I did mention that I had one GLARING problem, and that was at RB. I agree I need a couple of good RB's, but they just didn't give them to me. I disagree with you about Boldin though, he's going to get his share of TD's and catches. Edwards is unproven, and I think Lloyd might surprise a lot of people so I'm set at QB, WR, TE, K, and Def, but as I mentioned in the post, I need RB's and I have some trade bait for them. I would disagree with the team being "garbage" cuz Manning, whether you like him or not, is always good for at TD passes, and just because Boldin has Larry Fitz, isn't going to make him any less of a threat. This fantasy team is good, though sorely lacking in a RB. I don't know why they throw out the Curtis Martin's, Priest Holmes, and Marshall Faulks in the draft when they know they're not going to play. So, that was the whole point of the post, how do I turn what I feel is a "good" team into a better team. I can package Vick and Winslow in a deal for a stellar RB if I find the right buyer. I'm lookin!

Oh, and btw: As far as "rule #1", this was an auto draft, so I didn't deliberately not draft a couple of good RB's. They were handed to me.

You want to hear about a good Fantasy Team, well this is my team in my league from school where the pot is 50$.

QB- Culpepper
RB- Portis
RB- Kevin Jones
WR- Torry Holt
WR- Chris Chambers
WR- Roy Williams
TE- Cooley
Def- Skins

Backup RB's- Willie Parker and Warrick Dunn (who is going to have a solid year without TJ)

I just wish I was playing for more than 50 bucks.

I disagree with you. While most of your team appears o.k. at best, the Redskins Defense under Gregg Williams has ranked toward the end of the pack each of the last two years. They are simply not a good fantasy defense. How many turnovers do they force? How many points do they score? How many sacks have they gotten? As good and as elite as the are, there are much better fantasy defenses. And Culpepper, I had him last year BEFORE his knee went out, and he was horrible. He's still unproven.

I would do whatever you can to get some good RBs, JPFair, even if it means trading off your starting wide-outs to someone else in the league who will value WRs too much and RBs not enough. Without running backs you'll be toast, even with Manning as your starting QB.

FFA,

I totally agree with you. I'm thinking of putting Peyton Manning, Kellen Winslow, and Shane Graham up for one stud RB and a token WR.

My team is toast without a RB, but if I had a RB to go with the rest, I'd be in a great position. WHY the hell do they auto draft Curtis Martin anyway? Sup with that?

Didn't you have time to weed out players like Martin from your "draftable" list? I know I excluded Martin, Marshall Faulk, Koren Robinson, etc. from my lists before my drafts were held...Coming home from work the other day I heard on the news that Greg Jones of Jax was out for the season - one of the first things I did when I got home was to cut Jones from my list.

I am in two leagues

Team #1

Starters
QB Donovan McNabb
RB Shaun Alexander
RB/WR Keenan McCardell
WR Santana Moss
WR Antwaan Randle El
TE Marcus Pollard
D/ST Jaguars D/ST
K Adam Vinatieri

BENCH
Mark Brunell, Was QB
David Akers, Phi K
Drew Bledsoe, Dal QB
Priest Holmes*, KC RB
Drew Bennett, Ten WR
Ciatrick Fason, Min RB
Verron Haynes, Pit RB
Robert Ferguson, GB WR

Team #2

Starters

QB Donovan McNabb, Phi
RB Brian Calhoun, Det
RB/WR Mike Williams, Det
WR Brandon Lloyd, Was
WR Antwaan Randle El, Was
TE Chris Cooley, Was TE
D/ST Cardinals D/ST
K David Akers, Phi K

Bench

Daunte Culpepper, Mia QB
John Hall, Was K
Ladell Betts, Was RB
Najeh Davenport, GB
Reche Caldwell, NE WR
Eric Johnson, SF TE
Kris Mangum, Car TE

I am more confident in Team #1 than Team #2. With Team #2, I have no clue which running back should be my #1 RB. Also, with Team #2, I think I'm thin at WR.

Who care's about Defense? It's pretty a lucky guess every week on whose going to get INT's or Sacks, and since the Skins blitz alot and we have sooo many playmakers, our luck should be better this year.

And while all those dopes who pick like Chicago or Carolina in like the 5th Round, I'm snagging Chris Chambers or Roy Williams or someone. Then I take the Redskins Defense who is pretty dang good in like the 12 Round.

And about Culpepper, I think he'll have a bomb year in Miami, and even if he doesn't, I've got Delhomme as my backup (11th Round = Massive steal)

I would say no only because Running backs are the biggest point makers and Curtis Martin I don't think cuts it, u might want to pick up Dever's new starting running back that was an undrafted rookie and might be starting now if no one has him. Everything else looks good though.
