I saw mentioned in another thread that Joe Gibbs admitted to only game planning for one day prior to each game. It's fairly clear to me that he's using the pre-season to see who has the skills to make the team, which is what the pre-season is supposed to be about, isn't it? Don't worry, once the games count, he and his staff will get back to game planning all week long, and you'll see a markedly improved team on the field.
R.I.P. Andrew McDonough 9/3/92 - 7/14/07. Love & miss you, #20.
The thing that's disturbing is the third game of the pre-season is supposed to be the longest (and last time) the starters play for any length of time. It's the game to fine tune, show us what the progress is/has been in training camp and the Redskins showed us nothing. NE executed crisply, and although most of what we saw from them was vanilla it could and did show us real intensity in all aspects of their game. The Redskins looked like they were waiting for the bus to take them home. Yes, it's preseason and means nothing in the standings, but the fact is its a bad sign that the team couldn't even mount a small objection to being kicked from one end of the field to the other. I give credit to the NE coaches and players--they seem to get it.
Welcome to the site Chrissy - you make some good points and I also did not like the apparent lack of intensity and effort by our players.
However - Gibbs will have this team playing together and soon.
Also, did you notice how many times Brady was changing the play at the line and we let them run the play anyway with no defensive changes? On offense we never, ever, changed a play - we were going through the motions and I'm not sure if this was because we do not practice these plays or what. I saw the Patriots run a lot of plays that we will see from them during the season while I do not believe we will see any play repeated again this year from that game.
Bill had better be careful if he ever runs into us again in a game that counts as Gibbs will make him regret calling a time out with less than a minute to go and then an all out blitz on Campbell at the end - Gibbs will remember those little mistakes!
I may be wrong but the patsies might be on our rotation next year!

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm hoping it's early next year. Like the 4th of February!
That would be great but I do not think they will finish in the top 4 this year. However, if that team makes it then Gibbs will collect

Our team is learning a new offense and doesn't have all the starters playing.
Our defense is also missing some starters and isn't going all out yet, except for Taylor...
I'm pretty sure that Joe would like to see better execution even with the limited players we have out there, but I promise you he is also telling guys not to get hurt, by any means necessary.
Sure we'd all love to see a win, a score, or even just some good hard football, like we've become used to. It will be there come week 1. This is an aberration.
You'd think by now, you guys would trust and understand the Gibbs way of doing things. I wouldn't put it past Joe to be losing badly on purpose just to lull the Cowboys and Giants. I'm sure he's not, but if anyone would ever do that...

Re: Brady's changing plays at the line
I did indeed see him changing the plays and his coverage at the line. But, I suspect, rather than "giving away" a part of their playbook they were just letting Brady do what he does best, be a field general/coach on the field. Belicheck might not let him "manage" the games so much once the season starts and counts. One of the things Brady is known for is his ability under duress--time pressure etc. to move his "troops". I think really it was more a case of Brady practicing situational football (keeping the other team offguard and on their toes). By the way, that made watching our QB even more depressing.
Watching our QB(s) this pre season has not been fun at all but the special teams play has been the worst of the 3 facets. That being said, I think too much emphasis is being placed on the scores and the breakdowns and IMO the really bad thing has been the lack of apparent effort and lack of urgency. At the end of the year in 05 we had that intensity and it has not seemed to be there yet.
Hey - "it's only pre season" and we have all of 12 days to get ready for the Vikings - no worries!!!!!!

This is business as usual for us to be "vanilla" in the preseason. I think that with the new O-Coordinator and his reputation, we are expecting to see fireworks right off the bat. Remember the offense has to learn a whole new system and combine that with Coach Gibbs' paranoia about showing too much, it's got everyone in a tizzy.
I think that we will be fine and I won't start to panic unless we start out 0-2....
