Cartwright Moody About Acquiring Duckett

Post by grabndabizketz »

Just read the following from the Associated Press:

"Then there's Cartwright, who expected to get carries as a short-yardage back this season, the very role in which Duckett excels. Cartwright, whose solid season last year was marred by a costly fumble against Kansas City, said he was shocked by the trade.

"It's kind of like a slap in the face, but it's a business," Cartwright said. "They had to do a business deal, and that's the way they wanted to go."

Portis was more diplomatic, although he rebuffed a suggestion that Duckett's bruising style would complement Portis' more flashy runs.

"I'm a bruiser, too," Portis said. "Having a bigger back come in for myself, Ladell and Rock means more competition for all of us. We are going to have to step our level of play up, and it is going to be the toughest guy on the field."

Portis has the right attitude. Rock doesn't. Instead of being moody, he needs to perform when given the chance. I like Rock. He just needs to go back to worrying about keeping his spot and close his mouth.

I think he'll be OK. Just give some time to adjust.

I agree. I think he was getting used to all the praise he's been getting and he got a little reality check. He's always been a team guy and a hard worker.

Cartright is like all competitors, he would like to be "the guy". He is a valuable member of the team who is a starter on special teams. He will be OK. The ones that need to worry now are the Lumsdens, Nemo's and Whites. Competition for the last running back spots just got tighter.

Why does everyone keep looping in White? He is a FB and he is ok at the position b/c he has excelled this preseason in the backfield and on ST just like rock.

I love Rock man. Don't get me wrong I am very happy to have Duckett but it does kinda suck that Rock is pretty much going to be out of the offense. Hell I have a Cartwright Jersey, only one I have ever seen, I would rather have someon great than someone who is just really cool and good on ST. Rock will still excel in ST.
I miss you 21.

God I wish we had a second round pick.

Anybody think Betts asked for a trade and this was the inducement to get Duckett? There's been a lot of talk about him being starter quality for other teams, maybe the wheels have been in motion.

I think maybee Indy since Mungro injured his knee and is out for the season. Its worth a shot. Say we get a 3rd or 4th for him or O-line depth. Thats a great trade. What about even trading our guys back to Atlanta. Why not.

Me neither. But I guess his low center of gravity is what helps him in those situations.

Not to be a downer of the cat. But he'd never be healthy enough to come back and hurt us.

I was thinking the same thing! Wouldn't mind seeing him take up a roster spot in Philthy!

Personally I think it's more likely that upon opening contract extension talks with betts... the number was pretty high... maybe starter quality money.

Then it makes sense for the Redskin to cover their bases by acquiring Duckett. It's still very conceivable (to me) that Betts could get traded now with the right offer... <cough!> decent o-lineman for depth <cough!>... better to get something now than nothing at the end of the year if the Redskins brass has decided that the contract numbers are just not something they're intersted in paying.

It could be that Ladell just expressed his desire to go be the number one guy somewhere... or maybe the Duckett trade actually came about not because Betts asked for a trade but because contract talks proved fruitless.

My 2 cents
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

That & the fact that he's hard to find behind those big linemen. Joe Washington used that with us.

I wouldn't mind seeing him stay in the NFC East. At his best, he's been adequate, no more.

I thought you laughed at me when I said Betts was trade bait a week or two ago.

U reallly think Rock did any damage buy saying this.

Rock needs to talk with his play. He needs to do something that no back, including Portis, has done since Stephen Davis left... move the pile between the tackles on a consistent basis.

He has reason to be concerned. Duckett has a history of doing just that.

It's easier for Portis to have the right attitude. He's still #1 & will get plenty of touchs. The other RB's aren't so secure.

Rock appoligized if his complaints made him sound bad. He is just a guy 'that speaks' his mind. He is happy to have T.J.

Actually he said he doesn't usually speak his mind but it just slipped and he couldn't hold it in any longer.

Rock and Ladell aren't whiney little babies like some people are making them out to be. They just displayed natural reactions that any one of us would have displayed if we were in their positions, too.

I think Gibbs said the move for Duckett doesn't affect their status and they will ALL play important roles for this team. So they all may make it.
