Martin Gramatica?

Post by CPallDAY08 »

The patriots just let Gramatica go and Mike Wilbon on PTI said that the skins might try to get him. John Hall has done ok so far right? Can Gramatica kick off?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots released veteran kicker Martin Gramatica today.

Gramatica, 30, was signed by the Patriots as a veteran free agent on April 6, 2006. The 5-foot-8-inch, 170-pound kicker is in his seventh NFL season after spending his first six years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1999-2004) and Indianapolis Colts (2004). He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2000 season. Gramatica has converted 137-of-179 career field goals (76.5 percent) and 181-of-183 career extra points (98.9 percent). In seven career playoff games, he has converted 11-of-12 field goals (91.7 percent) and all 15 extra point attempts. The Kansas State product was originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the third round (80th overall) of the 1999 NFL Draft. He holds Tampa Bay’s all-time career records for scoring (591 points), field goals made (137) and field goals attempted (179).

Gramatica participated in one game for the Patriots this preseason, converting both of his field goal attempts and his only extra point try against Atlanta on Aug. 11, 2006.

He's coming off 2 bad years (under 60% over this time, about 1/3 beyond 40 yrds)

32 yrs old. I don't see upside compared to Hall.

Sorry. I can't see Kazoo running around in B&G -- although with these uniforms now, it's a whole lotta white.

I would at least give him a shot and if Hall goes down. Why not?

haha i second that, also looking at their roster, the special teams guys, i doubt they want to keep a lot of guys at the K and P position, like the Wash Post said the other day, sure they could have a just kick off guy but it would be tought because they want to keep other guys at other positions and that will b more important to them then the K and P positions.

SO even if they did get him... dont think he would make the squad... but they should be worried about Hall and Frost. Hall has been good, just need him to get back to that level of two years ago. Frost, meh, ugh, ew, ugh, i mean hes just... bad.

No thanks. I'd like us to wait until next year and go after the kicker from NC State. He kicks off, field goals, and punts. Yes I am a wolfpack fan but he is awsome.

Might as well get Al Del Greco to come out of retirement, oh and while we are desperate can we call Darrel Green and get him to play corner? That would be great.

too goofy looking, and at least our kickers can hit someone if they had to... and they may have to do a lot of that this year...

Who can? The only one who was good at that was Hall and supposedly that how his injury bug started. Now that they've taken him off of kickoffs for that very reason we have Frost back there. We all saw what happened to Frost.

I guess its a little late to bring a kicker in for competition....

The thing is that we aren't set at ANY kicking positions.

FG - ? until the season starts.
Kickoffs - are horrible
Punts - hit and miss

I say we sign him, and if possible, get rid of some more draft picks for him...

..even if he IS a free agent!!!

The way we give away picks, soon enough if you get enough redskins points on your credit card I wouldn't be shocked of Justice purchases a draft pick.

Hey Frost was one out of two in attempted tackles... not bad for a kicker...
