Didn't the redskins already send their 2007 4th to SF as part of the Lloyd trade?

I'm not sure I like this much--mostly because it's the last year of Duckett's contract. If he plays well, the skins won't be able to afford to keep him. If he doesn't, I don't see where the upside is over Betts or Cartwright.

We have Sellers. He is very suitable as our goalline back.

I don't really understand what this move indicates.

Maybe Duckett will play more of a running role and Sellers will be asked to pose as more of a receiving threat?

I agree Jake! Interesting make up in the backfield right now and maybe more moves ahead?

I think we all agree that we need to have some good backs for depth but we seem to have a lot of that at that position right now.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Sellers caught a lot of passes near the goal line out of the back field but rarely did he take a carry into the end zone from short. He was not much of a short yardage RUNNER last season.

Duckett gives us that.

If Sellers was so good as a goal line bac, wht hasn't he been used mote in that role before?

I like Sellers, he's a hard worker, clutch receiver & ST stud, but not a ball carrier.

If the Skins want to keep him, how many other teams are going to outbid Dan Snydor? :)

Random note, T.J.'s brother Tico was a Redskin in 1993/1994.

The strange part is I know who Tico is. I never knew they were brothers.

In looking at this trade, I think it helps our team for the long haul. Consider, Ladell Betts is a very good back, and will likely fetch a nice contract. I compare his situation with my cousin's client, Lamont Jordan. Lamont was a backup to Curtis Martin in New York, and when called on, he showed he could run, block, and even catch out of the backfield. Lamont got a 27.5 million dollar deal with the Raiders.

Ladell is up for free agency next year and will likely fetch a good salary somewhere. I think the Skins are preparing for both this year and next year when Betts will likely be gone.

They must also be pretty "underwhelmed" with Nemo and some of the others. Someone is gonna get cut, and it will likely be whoever is weakest at Special Teams....Rock and Sellers are studs on ST...that leaves Lumsden and Nemo. One of them will go, and Duckett will take over.

I think we improved the team for the future with Duckett...I don't think he will affect Seller's as much though. Ducket is huge, but he is a running back. We will likely use him just like he was used in ATL, as a change-up running back.

Immagine a short yardage formation with Sellers and Duckett in the backfield.

Ok fellas Comcast SportsNet is reporting it as news not as speculation.

We get Duckett and give up a pick.

I'm not worried. I think that Betts got a good chunk of time backing up Clinton. He didn't do as much with it as he could of but maybe Duckett will. I think the more talent we have, the better. Duckett is better then Betts.

Perhaps this is indication that they like Lumsden and plan to hold on to him and groom him to step up to number 2 RB next year.

Broncos send Lelie to Atlanta in 3-way deal

By Jeff Legwold, Rocky Mountain News
August 22, 2006
Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie got his wish Tuesday night as did the Broncos.

Lelie wanted a change of scenery and has gotten one as Denver was part of a three-way trade with the Washington Redskins and the Atlanta Falcons. In the end the Falcons ended up with Lelie, the Broncos got draft picks from the Redskins and Washington got running back T.J. Duckett.

Denver will flip flop first-round picks with Washington if the Redskins’ finish with a worse record than the Broncos this season and thus have a higher pick. The Broncos would also get Washington’s third-round pick in that scenario.

If Washington finishes with a better record than Broncos this season the teams will keep their first-round picks and the Broncos will receive the Redskins’ third- and fourth-round picks.

The trade was completed Tuesday night as the three teams agreed to the terms.

For Lelie it means he finally gets back on the field after vowing he would not play for the Broncos again if he didn't have to. He has been upset at the prospect of being the "No. 3 receiver with the Broncos and nothing more'' after the team traded for, and then signed long-term, wide receiver Javon Walker.

Lelie had not attended any of the Broncos offseason workouts and had not attended training camp. The team had fined Lelie $14,000 a day, a total that reached $322,000 for training camp alone as of Monday's practice.

The Broncos players had Tuesday off.

Lelie was also fined just over $11,000 for missing the team's mandatory minicamp in July. It was unclear early Tuesday night if Lelie will have to pay the fine to the Broncos or if it was waived as part of the trade.

The teams were finalizing the paperwork of the deal Tuesday night.

Gotta trust Gibbs -- however, don't we need backup OL instead of another RB? This move makes me think that the coaching staff is worried about the health of Portis & Betts -- maybe they think their injuries could nag at them for awhile and they needed insurance. I hate giving up more picks though - especially to Denver!

Don't forget Duckett is in the last year of his deal too. We can't keep him beyond this season unless he signs as a backup, which like Betts, he won't. Basically we're renting a RB for the year, who will be very motivated because he's playing for a contract, but next year I think we're going to have a big hole behind Clinton.

Trades like this genearlly come with an extension. Duckett is good, but not a starting, every down running back. IMO..I think he will sign the right deal in the right situation.

We won't be finnishing with a worst record than Denver so there will be no flip-flop of 1st round picks. So we will have to give them our 3rd round pick and our 4th round pick (if we can get it back)

I'll wait for better details of this trade

But dont you think the coaches would have given him more than 1 goal line carry last year if they thought he was a good option there?

Personally I DON'T like this move.

Here's why: Sure Duckett is good, but Sellers, Rock, Ladell (and I wonder what this means for Jesse...) are an excellent group of RB depth.

And quite frankly, I'm getting kind of sick of trading away all our draft picks. I mean, there are always good players still around in the 3rd+4th Rounds of the draft, but we always miss out on them because we never have 3/4 round picks.

And what ever happened to all this , "Ladell is so good" talk by Saunders. If in fact it was a way to try and trade, him it all got flushed away now that we are super deep at RB.

I don't know why, but I am really disapointed in the organization for making this move just becuase Rock and Sellers and all those guys bring great enthusiasm and energy to the team on teams and what not, and this is like a slap in the face to them.

Plus, now the Skins will probably pull CP from goal-line situations and he's on my fantasy team!

Wtf? Seriously!

Sellers lays the f-ing wood when he has the ball. He's a good short yardage threat either carrying or catching out of the backfield. We have how many running backs on the roster and we're trading draft picks away for yet another one instead of O-line or somewhere that desperately needs depth?

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to give Sellers what is now apparently Duckett's role and pick up a FULLBACK in free agency if needed? Or make Sellers the #3 RB and move Cartwright to fullback where he was our starter!

You want to trust in the head coaches and management but man...
