Injuries

Just heard that Carter tore his ACL and MCL so he is done for the year. K.Campbell spraigned his MCL. No link but heard from Kelly Johnson on sportsnight on Comcast sports net. Nothing new on Portis.

Our LB corps is really taking a beating. That's 4 injured out o 9. W may have to sign a couple.

Crazy that you can tear your ACL just making a cut and not getting hit.

Just one of those freak injuries.

Portis will be fine, a guy on my high school rugby team had the exact same injury and he only missed one game, and he played Rugby a sport were u don't have shoulder pads. Portis won't miss opening week (regular season).

Id ALMOST be inclined to keep him out until he is 100% healed. Yeah it sounds crazy but at his position that injury will NEVER heal if he continues to play on it.

IF Betts can get off of his butt for once in his career, I say run him ragged until CP is ready. Saunders said he looks really nice so lets roll with him. We need CP way longer than halfway through the season.

I don't think they should keep him playing on it during the preseason, I meant he will be fine for the regular season.

Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't accusing you of saying that. I was stating that I dont want Portis to start until he is 110%. If that means week 3, than so be it. We can get bye easier in the beggining than at the end.

I was doing some thinking in the shower as I always do and was thinking that this could be really good for us. If Portis sat out a couple weeks in the beginning of the season, then that would mean that he would be fresher at the end of the year b/c he had taken less hits. Not that really only works if Portis' injury isn't a season nagging injury. I just hope he is going to be ok. I have a feeling it will be a "lets just rest it this week and we will see if he can go next" type of situation.

Portis needs to wait until he is 100% If he goes in at 80% his shoulder will never heal due to his position. We can make due with Betts.

I want him 100% heatlhy too. Like CLL said, Betts can carry the load for 2-3 weeks. Make no mistake though, Betts is NO Portis.

I once saw a guy pop his ACL in non contact sparring in Tae Kwon Do. He was much older, but then he wasn't wearing cleats either.

Sorry, thats what I was trying to say. Don't forget that Rock had a 100 yard game last season. Our O-line can make it work for anyone. I am really excited to see Lumsden this weekend. I hope he plays.

If Portis' injury is even remotely nagging, I say save him for Dallas. Betts can handle the Vikes like he did for the last game of the 04 season.

If I may...

If you guys had a game tomorrow, Clinton Portis would play and he would not be hindered at all as far as running ability.

However, once he takes a hard shot on that shoulder for the first time, he will want to cry like a little girl.

Not saying he will, but he will want to. It's that painful.

It will go on like this the second time that shoulder is hit. And the third, and the fourth and so on. Not regular tackles, mind you, but the regular big hit per game a running back will take is more than enough.

This injury does not, I repeat, does NOT heal without surgery. Especially within the same season. So even if he's "100%", that guarantees nothing. He's still liable to reinjure it with any one pop. The most a player can do is strengthen the muscles around the joint so that the bone is less likely to shift out of the socket. Even then, it's not repairable naturally. He needs to go under the knife to do that.

I know this because I have the very same injury and opted not the have the surgery. I've done a lot of strengthening of the shoulder and only within the last year has the injury finally become less of a burden. Even still, the shoulder will shift when, for example, I'm playing a game of basketball, and try to drive to the hole and get blocked with my hand still on the ball.

When this happens, it still hurts like hell even though the injury is nearly five years old.

Now obviously, I cannot compare my threshold of pain to a big leaguer like Clinton Portis, but that injury is by far the most pain I've ever felt in my life.

It's gonna hover on him all season long. That's a guarantee.

Darn! But thanks for the insight....

How long would it take to recover from the knife?

Depending on who does the job, how well conditioned you are, etc.

Usually, there's damage to the rotator cuff involved. This happens, a guy could potentially miss the season.

I'd play it out, like Portis will. In fact, I did (this happened my senior season in high school). Consider this, though. No matter what he'll tell you, it's in the back of your mind; you know you're still hurt and you're trying your best to avoid big contact on it. In all honesty, you're just waiting for it to pop again.

But Portis is a gamer. He'll give it his all if nothing else. And like I said, it shouldn't hamper him so much that he still can't be a gamebreaker, but his shoulder is now a target.

I've seen players suffer shoulder dislocations during games. The trainer popped them back into place & they were back on the field. It all depends on what the MRI shows.

Listen...none of us are docters and even if you are you dont know the extent of the injury they can tell us the technical term for it but that doesnt give us the level of injury...and than last person I am going to listen to is someone with a dallas star giving a completely negative aspect of the situation...sure it might be true....but I could say that a month of rest and rehab and he'll be 110% with no future risk factor of reinjury and i could be true...all skins fans stay optimistic...from the reports we have more reason to be optimistic than pessimistic

That was a worst case scenerio that he was talking about. CP said he'll wait a few days for the soreness to go away and then start rehab. That's what PT said earlier
