Arrington Smack Talk

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

He did acknowledge the Bengals have interest in Pro Bowl linebacker LaVar Arrington, that he’s mulling a move to a 3-4 base defense, and that the club plans to add a defensive tackle in the draft or “later on.”

But Lewis also said he’s content with the size and talent of his current tackles and the way the team has approached free agency this offseason.

From your link it sounds like Lewis only interest was as a DE in a 3-4 scheme... (in a scheme). I don't even recall if LA visited Cincy, the Postons talked a lot about the bengals interest, but Lewis interest lasted less than a week

COUGHLIN ALREADY UNHAPPY WITH ARRINGTON'S TALKING

A league source tells us that Giants coach Tom Coughlin isn't pleased with the decision of linebacker LaVar Arrington to sound off on the day the team reported for training camp regarding a variety of actual and/or perceived slights from his old team and members of the media.

"People want to hate on the Giants," Arrington said Thursday during his hour-long bitch session. "I've heard negative statements about Eli [Manning], about the defense. 'Who's going to be the biggest flop this year?' They say the Giants. They hate us. They really hate on the Giants. I guess it's a great situation because people have always hated on me."

(Actually, we think the Giants will be just fine this year. Until the playoffs.)

Regardless, Coughlin doesn't like the kind of chatter in which Arrington engaged, and it remains to be seen whether Coughlin has politely advised his biggest offseason acquisition to shut the hell up.

Our guess? If Arrington passes on the opportunity to spout off some more the next time a bank of microphones is stuck in his face, it means that the Soup Nazi has told LaVar that he'll get no crab bisque if he continues to complain about the lack of bread.

ARRINGTON ZIPS IT

In response to our item from Saturday regarding Giants coach Tom Coughlin's displeasure with linebacker LaVar Arrington's Thursday bitch session with the media, an industry source tells us that Arrington kept his mouth shut on Friday.

Word is that some reporters who missed Arrington's hour-long rant on Thursday tried to get him to revisit some of the topics after lunch on Friday, but he declined the request for an encore.

Our somewhat-informed guess? Coughlin told him to shut the hell up and focus on football.

Yeah plus, remember LaVar said he wanted to play in the division, but that he would not play for the Cowboys. I respect him for that too.

And dude, check out this picture I found of LaVar is his new NY threads...

I still have his jersey and wear it with pride. Sometimes it stinks when a good player leaves or is forced out, but that doesn't diminish what they did for this team. Guys like LA and Stephen Davis are now on other rosters, but I appreciate the time they spent in the burgundy and gold.

I agree with you on Monk. He's probably the one player who's jersey I would have kept so to say I would trash "all players", I guess, was an over-statement....as was my statement was that it would be an insult to all Skins fans to wear an Arrington jersey.

I don't begrudge other fans from wearing jerseys of players no longer on the team. I just won't do that.

LA and Stephen Davis don't strike me as of the same mold as Art Monk or some of ther other "old school" Redskins....so I really have no desire to continue to wear their jerseys.

An interesting point that a lot of people fail to realize is that if LaVar Arrington was such a hot commodity in the NFL, he would have been snapped up the minute he became a free-agent. A lot of people seem to forget that Arrington waiting a LONG time (not sure exactly, but over a month) before signing with the Giants. In fact, he was the last "marquee" player from the free-agent class to sign with any team.

Those people that believe LaVar when he says that he was "seeing what his options were" or "hammering out a deal" are only kidding themselves. The truth of the matter is that Arrington is not highly regarded in coaching circles around the NFL. All those coaching staffs that he says he had "no problem" with are all part of the coaching fraternity. In coaches circles around the NFL, LaVar is and always will be a brilliant athlete who is undisciplined and selfish, wanting to make that big play to make a name for himself.

The Giants took a huge gamble in bringing in Arrington, just as the Cowboys did with T.O. Coughlin and Parcells are both known as hard nosed disicplinarian type coaches who are probably thinking to themselves "I can handle him".

The writing is on the wall. Put two and two together! Parcells and Cougling, two heavy handed disciplinarians. Owens and Arrington, two gifted athletes that are greedy and undisciplined. It's not just a coincidence that Arrington and Owens ended up on teams with the types of coaches they have.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

if we're to sweep dallas we better hold back on the opener, which I don't see us doing so basically the league has once again hand plucked us for dallas, honestly how do we explain being given a night game in D on a short week for the second year in a row, the first game between these two teams should have been mnf at WAS.

LaVar wrote: "That's his coaching staff," Arrington said. "Whatever it was, I just really believe everyone was in cahoots. Those are his guys. If he really wanted me to be there and things to work out, he would have told them that and I would be there.... There were so many different coaching staffs [during Arrington's stay with the Redskins]. That faith and belief and trust that was there with the fans wasn't there with the coaches. I just didn't have that.

If LaVar wanted to be here he would have showed he wanted to be here, he wouldn't have waited on a coach to fight his battle when his only competition was Holdman and Clemons. As many times as Sean Taylor was disciplined he never sat more than a series or two (if you belonged on the field - Joe put ya on the field). As far as all the other coaches go - What were they going to say? Everytime they went to see "the Danny", Lavar is already sitting in the office. Gibbs didn't have that problem because he ran the team the team didn't run the coaches.

LaVar wrote:"There wasn't a [longtime Pittsburgh Steelers coach] Bill Cowher there for me. It was like a game of Russian roulette: You keep shooting, and you finally get to the one with the bullet. I finally got to the coaching staff that didn't want me. I was fine with three coaching staffs and worked well with them, but this one didn't want me."

In other words LaVar knew the day would come that a coach would come along and say LaVar "You need to do this, and only this". LaVar also knew he wouldn't be able to do it.

LaVar wrote:Arrington said he spoke often to his former Redskins teammates early in the offseason, then stopped once he signed with the Giants in April. "I don't want to dilute my healthy dislike for any team in this league," he said, "so I don't really feel a need to have personal conversations with them."

After this past week I don't think there will be too many ex-teammates that will want to conversate with LaVar after this past weekend full of comments

LaVar wrote:"The Giants and the Packers stepped up," Arrington said. "I didn't ask for anything during the whole process. I said, 'You tell me what I'm worth.' Brett Favre called me and said, 'Me and you are going to ride together.' Plus they offered more money. If I was really all about the money, I'd be a Packer. The only thing better than a team with a great owner and front office is a team owned by the fans."

The Packers were desparate to get a answer for Brett on his staus for this season and LaVar's name happen to come up, Farve may run the town and the team but he doesn't sign the checks. The Jags were interested until Del Rio had a issue with the physical

LaVar wrote:He already knows, he said, that he will have a far more prominent role on this Giants defense than he had on the Redskins defense the past few seasons.

"I'm involved," Arrington said. "I deserve to be involved. I've earned the right to be involved. If I'm not involved, you have to ask yourself why that is and what kind of [stuff] is going on."...

His role will be more prominent in NY for a little while (until the Gints can find someone to play WLB) The only reason I agree that Arrington's statement that he deserves to be involved is because I've seen the list of linebackers on the G-strings rosters. Last year he played on a team with a roster the had more depth (and that what he became "depth")

Arrington spoke to Merril Hoge by telephone late last week after the ESPN analyst said that Arrington is an undisciplined player who won't be able to coexist with the demanding Coughlin. Arrington said that he and Hoge usually are friendly and he was hurt that Hoge didn't call him before making the comments.

LaVar wrote:"I fault him for not communicating with me," Arrington said.

If Merril called half the people he comment on he won't have time to be a talking head.

LaVar wrote:Arrington says he's annoyed with the perpetuation of what he calls a myth that he is an out-of-control player who can't fit into the framework of a team.

"That's not accurate and that's not me," he said. "The depictions of me have always been so distorted. I've always tried to fit in."...

LaVar has always been a team guy, but when he hits the field his motivation seems to be ESPN Top 10 and if the team gets a "W" that was a bonus

i have always loved and stood up for LA. I understand NFL is a business and eventually he'd move on, and im cool with that. But the more trash he spews from his mouth, the less im liking him. 1niksder pretty much broke it all down. But man this is pissing me off. The worst is how hes talking all this trash on his ex team mates! what a buster! I really think this team that Joe has assembled really cares about winning and being a cohesive unit, and they dont have time for all the Generl Hospital drama. The way LA mouthed off before that Philly game to get us into the playoffs is evident of that fact. Good luck LA, best wishes, as a person i think your a good guy, and i do think you were a stud for most your playing time with us.... but you have to look in the mirror and shake yourself brother.

Lavar is not the problem that Owens is, not nearly.

After reading the new column in the WP about Arrington and his continuing gum flapping, I have lost all respect for the man, or should I say child... Holy crap, he gets to play a freaking game for a living and be wealthy doing it and he's crying that HOF coach Gibbs didn't want him there... hmmmm maybe that says something about your character Mr. Arrington if one of the classiest and most respected football coaches ever didn't think you were good enough for his team.
May #21 never be worn again by another Redskin but may every Redskin play like they are wearing #21 on their backs.

What's most surprising to me about all this is how many people seem surprised over all this.

What? It sounded good in my head! :)

If only his knee worked as well as his mouth...

Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington missed practice on Monday due to a sore right knee. "This is the third practice that he's missed. Am I concerned? Sure, I'm concerned. I'm concerned any time a player doesn't practice," head coach Tom Coughlin told the team's official web site. "But I am aware of the circumstances and hopefully we can get these things under control and get him back out there. And when we put him back out there, we have to make some decisions on how much at that point in time that he does get. He has some swelling. He has swelling in the knee. I believe it's his surgical knee."

:x Just as he was starting to "get his swagger back", this has to happen!!! If those daggone Redskins doctors would have done a good job during the first surgery, and if the coaches had not rushed him back onto the field, he would be BLOWING UP in New York right now, son.

"We're in the process of developing a way in which we can manage this thing with him," Coughlin said. "As we go forward, we'll be under those guidelines. If we get him back next week, that will be fine. I'll be OK with that."

Where have we heard this before ?

Just reading the dailies here in New York, it's like Deja Vu all over again.
He's saying exactly the same things he's always said. "It's not an injury...it's soreness" "I'd rather be out there banging around, but what can you do?"
Blah-blah-blah.
LA is going to grab the usual pompoms...only NYG blue this time around...and I couldn't be happier to see him gone.
