Ravens want in on DC TV

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Ravens want in on DC TV

Post by RedskinsFreak »

Just another example of Baltimore's inferiority complex when it comes to all things DC.

From dcrtv.com:

Baltimore Ravens Want DC TV Market - 8/9 - From the Baltimore Sun: The Baltimore Ravens are quietly appealing to the NFL to unite Baltimore and Washington into a single television market, a move that could help the club serve thousands of fans - and cultivate new ones - who can't see all of the team's games because they live outside the immediate Baltimore area. Under the club's proposal, all Ravens regular-season games would be televised on network affiliates not only in Baltimore, but also on Washington stations, which reach areas such as Frederick County, where their fans have complained about missing games. The proposal also calls for all Washington Redskins games to air on Baltimore stations.....

I hope this doesn't happen. It would severly impede my ability of watching the best games. The Redskins don't need or want Baltimore. The entirety of their 'second-string' existence drives the B-moreans crazy. They wanna be like DC, but they can't.

I know at least a few B-more-area Skins fans who would be thrilled with this.

So I have to ask myself, which team would benefit more, the 'skins or the Ravens? I'd like to think the 'skins would come out ahead on that one.

I don't see that as a problem since the Ravens are an AFC team. Different networks, so the fans win. Obviously it would have to revert for away inter-conference games, but they would probably just schedule around that eventuality if the deal goes through.

I dont think I had to travel to my grandfathers house in greenbelt at all last seasons because all of the skins game were aired in Baltimore. However, in previous seasons the Ravens would edge out the Skins very often in Baltimore. Who cares if Ravens games are being shown in DC areas, you dont have to watch them. It will benefit me, thats all that matters. =)

The only problem I can think of is that usually only one game is shown on the station showing the "local" game. That would mean less football for those without the NFL package to watch.

Ravens games are already shown on local channels. CBS usually has the Ravens games on here in DC.
Clinton Portis 2005-2006 Season tracker
352 carries 1516 yards 11 TDs
30 receptions 216 yards 0 TDs

But that's done without any sort of edict from the league. It also doesn't -- for the most part -- hinder WUSA (DC Ch. 9) from showing CBS's top AFC game in the other time slot.

If WUSA were mandated to show Ravens games, the blackout rules probably go into effect as well, meaning fewer games of national importance involving the Colts, Pats, Bengals, Steelers, etc.

I just don't want to wind up like they are in New York -- Giants or Jets at 1:00, the other at 4:00 and nothing else.

Baltimore is a toilet bowl. I don't want anything to do with it.
After every game, every play & every highlight, I'll always remember #21. RIP Sean.
