I ran into Jesse Lumsden last night
I ran into Jesse Lumsden last night at the Casino I work at in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He mentioned he was heading down to Washington around mid week to get ready for the start of training camp, He was kind of surprised I recognized him, let alone knew who he played for. I got the impression he has a mean streak to him because right after the 25 seconds I spoke to him he was giving a buddy of his a bunch of Sh@t over something. My thoughts are it will be tough for him to make the roster unless its on special teams, Im sure he sat down with the Hamilton Tiger Cats, the team that has his CFL rights and discussed his future in case he's not a Redskin come September.
GO SKINS GO!!
Very cool. Don't suppose you mentioned that you knew who he was because you're a member of a Redskins community run by a Canadian?
Well.... just thought I'd ask. I know you knew anyway, but it was such a natural segue.
I actually disagree though. I think Lumsden will impress the staff enough to have a really solid shot at the practice squad at least... and that's if he doesn't EARN an actual slot on the roster on special teams.
Personally, I think the Redskins saw SOMETHING in him that made them give him a two year contract.
I know I'll be paying close attention to his progress every day when I'm at camp. I may even do up some stuff on Jesse and Kerry Carter for NFL Canada.

I'd love to see Lumsden make it but wonder if a two year contract is a good indicator of Redskins interest. I'm reminded that Taylor Jacobs also has a two year contract. Does anyone know how much the contract is for?
Taylor Jacobs was drafted ...first day, by a different coach... and signed a four year contract... he was drafted on college performance and has been on the same contract ever since. I don't see the similarities.
Am I missing something?
Jesse was a free agent and was actually pursued by a few other teams.
I'm not saying that you can draw conclusions from him getting a two year deal, it could have been just to spread out a bonus or to distance the offer from what others had offered.
But I think they did make an effort to 'win' the contract battle for a reason... and I do think they must see some potential in him to even try.
And for good reason... the kid is a phenomenal athlete and he's bright as well. He's the kind of kid that will meet the challenge with everything he's got and be a joy to watch at camp by virtue of having a hunger that not every player shares. These are always the best guys to watch at camp and in the preseason... the fringe guys that make or break careers on effort.
.. oh and if you want anyone's cap information on the Redskins, you just have to go to the salary cap table in the Team Info section of our web site.
