Even though It would probably make all of us feel more secure if they traded that pick and picked up a couple of d-linemen... you have to have faith in that Gibbs knows what he's doing..

Plus it will be real exciting to see Taylor in the Safty spot, which many people believe is the most overall impact player in the draft.

it would be a real good plan. taylor would be an impact player guaranteed. We will pick up some undraftred players that gibbs can turn into real gems.

I'd be most happy with Taylor...but surely satisfied with Winslow. I, for one, am happy they're keeping #5.

i agree. i'd feel safer drafting the most overall impact player in the draft than filling "needs". i feel that drafting on a "need" basis, though understandable, can sometimes hurt a team (remember cleveland in 2000? they needed help on the d-line and passed up on arrington and took courtney brown instead. arrington by far is the better pro.) from what i know of taylor he could be a disruptor in the defensive backfield. i'd rather take a future pro-bowler at safety than an effective but above-average defensive end/tackle.

I think it's best if we draft Sean Taylor.

i read that matt bowen would be moving to his more natural strong safety position if sean taylor comes in at the fs.. so if that happens what do we do with iffy... im guessing were keeping him locked right now cus we dont know who we'll get in the draft, but if its a sure thing that we get taylor on draft day.. whos it gonna be iffy or bowen at ss

if they do take taylor with the 5th pick, where is the pass rush coming from?!??! i keep reading that the skins plan on filling the DE void through free agency, and yet i hear nothing about any free agent DEs coming for visits. i trust that joe has a plan, but it's making me a bit nervous.

The 'skins would have to cut several players if they keep #5.

Using last year's #5 pick as a realistic look at what the costs will be, #5 will be a cap hit of $2.25 million. This makes the obvious assumption that you don't go QB with this pick.

Newman at #5 last year received a $13 million SB with a first year cap figure of $2.23.

With only one pick, the rookie pool allocation will determine the cap figure, but I expect a SB in excess of $13 to make up for the limits on bargaining imposed by the allocation.

Both Candidate and Moore may need to be cut just to sign #5.

I would still wager on an attempt to trade down, but that nessesitates someone wanting to trade up.

Yes, I hope this is for real, maybe they'll trade their 5th pick and a 2005 6th round pick to the Giants for the #4 pick. That would be the safest route to go.

Gibbs won't mortgage the Skins future. I think he's probably pretty impressed with Taylor like the rest of us. If he isn't available at #5, we may still trade down though.

Yeah, me too. That's why Taylor is such a good draft pick though. We would be taking the best overall player and fulfilling our needs at the same time. Yes, we need some more pass rush but we need a Safety as well, especially now that Bailey is gone. As much as I like Bowen and Ohalete (sp) that spot is a weakness. Taylor can play right away too which is huge. Also, Gregg Williams says we're going to blitz A LOT. With the great athletes we have as our outside linebackers (Arrington and Washington) we may be able to get by with average DEs. I'm sure Taylor will be getting some pressure on the QB as well. We can put ANYONE on the D-Line and it will be a lot better than last year anyway. Gotta get Taylor.

My thoughts exactly. However, it was pointed out by some on this board that Bowen and Ohalete's play last year was hindered by our weak line and that they're actually a lot better than last season would indicate. Taylor will bring a lot to a poor pass D. If Ohalete or Bowen loses their starting roles, we'll at least have a decent back-up.

Putting Arrington on the weakside is going to make offenses adjust because he won't have to deal with the TE on LB blitzes. Arrington will pulverize most HBs in those situations, if the HB can pick him up in time. Taylor will sneak some blindsiders, I'm sure, in Williams' scemes.

I'd cut Trung and Moore to sign Taylor.

I have no doubt that Taylor or Winslow will be available by the 5th pick.

Especially if you look at the draft with the following people going with the first 4 picks:

Eli Manning
Larry Fitzgerald
Robert Gallery
Mike Williams

It is a given that either Winslow or Taylor will be available.
