This is a fraud. That's a British vessel. A Canadian warship would be named "HMCS Beaver"

Both the Coasties and the Navy wouldn't be bad choices. Both obviously spend time away on ships, the coast guard only for short trips but more frequent, while the Navy is longer durations (6+ months) but not as often. I've been in the Navy 9 years now. I'm an AZ, Aviation type. It's not bad. My biggest recommendation is to study for your ASVAB, the higher you score the more money you can make. Bootcamp wasn't that tough and from what I hear it's even softer. You'r follow on training, depending what job your going into will differ, but should be bad. The Navy is starting to downsize a lot of it's locations, but there are still many good ones left out there. I'm currently in Guam and it's really not bad at all. Well, whatever your choice, like I said, study, study, study! It's your one big shot at getting the job you want.

Just so you know, you will likely not be able to use any kinds of medicines while in basic training.

ended up backing out cuz of athritis in my back. Fortunately we now have medicine that relieves me of any pain.

I hadn't noticed this... I was Army Nurse Corps for the last 10 years of my service, and did some work with MEPS (the Military Entrance Processing Station), where they do your induction physical. You know, while you may be pain free, you still have the damage from the arthritis in your back... it's possible that you won't be medically qualified for any branch of the service, and I guarantee that they will want documentation that you are fully capable of performing the demanding duties of the service, with only minimal risk that your condition will worsen as a result, including the Coast Guard.

That sucks, I know. Your MEPS (entrance exam) file is a part of your record. You will want to run that by any recruiter. Whether it is possible to obtain a waiver, I don't know, but you must be absolutely up front with them about this... failure to disclose this could have uncomfortable consequences when (not if) they find out later....

I really hope things work out for you. Keep us posted.

Is this an illness or a disease? I mean, will you fully recover, or is this something you are saddled with for life, even if medication will control it? I'm surprised at this either way. They seem to be pretty desperate for warm bodies these days. Are the reserves out of the question, too?

It's just inflamation of some internal organs. But it stays in remission for years at a time. Yes I have to take medicine for the rest of my life, but trust me, it's not as bad as it sounds. I'm going to try whatever I can to see if someone can waive it.

Oh! Small illness. For a minute, I was thinking "What, was the recruiter a woman?" ROTFALMAO
Sorry, Poo. The thought does count.
