People may not remember exactly what you did
or what you said....

~BUT~
they will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel.

RIP. I always thought "Piper" was Pink Floyd's masterpiece. This is largely due to Syd's influence. It was basically his album.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (SOYCD) is actually about Syd. Some think Wish You Were Here (WYWH) is too as the whole album is a bit of a lamentation of the old days with Syd. But Roger actually wrote SOYCD about Syd.

Ironically the band had not seen Syd for seven full years when he walked into the studio while they were actually cutting the song written about him. They didn't even recognize their friend who had gained so much weight and shaved off all of his hair... and his eyebrows.... hence the scene in the movie version of 'The Wall' where Pink does the same thing. And when I say they didn't recognize him... I mean not at all. Nick Mason has said hat he was standing but ten feet from him and had no idea it was him. Roger Waters was reduced to tears when he learned it was his old friend Syd... and all while they were producing the song written about him...

Syd was a tortured soul... I guess his torment is finally over. Sad that such brilliance came with such a heavy personal price.

His first album The Madcap Laughs just personally brings me great sorrow... it epitomizes everything that can be wrong with the music industry... a record company actually basically recording a mental breakdown and including it in the final pressing. Total exploitation with no concern for the victim. Some think Syd may even have been schizophrenic.

Testament to his brillince is the fact that there's still so much interest in a person that hasn't really even been out of the house for thirty years... and who really only has his name on one Pink Floyd album.

But I digress. :-)

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter,
you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
