Sports Talk 980

Post by notwhy26 »

As of tonight July 11th, 2006 Sports Talk 980 just lost ESPN coverage, game night, and the all night show. My question does anyone know where i can listen to ESPN programing. The FOX programing in im opinoin is biased and more often then not takes cheap shots against the skins.

Lost their ESPN coverage? Excellent, now maybe I'll tune in more often.

Red Zebra will be kicking off Redskins Radio right on, or around training camp.

And yes, that's where the programming went.

I just read the link, I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, Is there an online listening option for Danny Radio. I saw the frequency's in the article but nothing for online. As far as 980, I hope they go with Sporting News Radio, way better than ESPN.

Not yet that I know of, but I would imagine that the Redskins have every intention of doing so... they may even offer the feed at Redskins.com eventually.

I was actually shocked to see Bram go to Redskins Radio... nice 'signing' by the Skins... maybe not as 'ritzy' a signing as Riggo, but likely more important to the overall quality of product.

It'll be really interesting to see how much this radio station's talk show will blast the Redskins if they don't agree with what is going on. I won' expect a lot of that because it's owned by "The Danny".

I agree to some degree, but to be honest... I have a hard time seeing anyone tell Riggo what to say.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a positive approach anyway. To me there's a misconception that 'being positive' means dealing in half-truths.

I personally don't see it that way. Truth is.. there are any number of things to report on about a football team at any given time, and being positive can be as simple as choosing to report about things going on that ARE positive. You don't have to be a homer and totally disregard the negative, you just have to stick to FACTS and have an eye for the good.

You lose all credibility with blind homerism, so I personally don't think that the results of looking after your own radio broadcasting will be that extreme. Nobody can fault the on air personalities for citing actual factual information... so if they can stick to that and provide positive 'color' to go along with that... I think that's great for Redskin fans.

I'm so fed up with phantom sources, and hidden negative agendas ruling the sports media world, that I welcome ANY change. When you're fortunate enough to be privy to a lot of the ACTUAL facts going on in Redskin-land... it's truly shocking to see the constant sensationalistic approach to beat reporting.

I've grown to the point where I can't look at a piece off mass media content with any more respect than what I give the headline of the National Enquirer when i'm in line at the grocery store.

Why do you think communities like this one exist? Fans themselves have trouble buying into the constant barrage of venom, and seek alternatives. And when you really think about it... the 'little guy' has a lot more personal interest in 'manufacturing' content. Putting a scathing article up about the Redskins, with no basis in fact, would do nothing more than attract a boatload of people for a site like this.

But in over 700 articles written by the site, I challenge anyone to go back and find a single NON-FACTUAL statement in all of them. To me, there is very little integrity in sports journalism any more. It's become ALL about the sexy headline. Our stance here has always been to stick to the facts, and to look to the positive when you can.

I don't think it makes our content bland... at least I hope it doesn't. It just makes it more believable hopefully. i'd rather have a place that a Redskin fan can come to see as BELIEVABLE. I don't care if there are bigger cmmunities, I'd just like to become a place that a Redskin fan knows that if he reads it... it's a fact. No questioning the integrity, because it's never breached by stretching the truth for the sake of a little bit of 'pop'.

Obviously you'll always get EVERYTHING in the message boards... but the website should be a place you can hopefully go to get information about your Redskins that you know isn't open to interpretation.

I see no reason to believe that you can't approach Redskins Radio with the exact same mantra. Keep it factual... give me some good human interest stuff that SHOULD come from such wonderful access... I wanna hear about some of the great things players do away from the field that don't get noticed or reported on... that's REALLY positive stuff because it's about more than just football. Do those things, and I personally am a guaranteed Redskins Radio listener.

I don't need to be bombarded with more negativity to be honest... I see enough of it here on the boards.

My 2 cents

Somebody stand face-to-face with Riggo and tell him he's not going to be objective... I dare you.

If I'm not mistaken AM 1240 in Cambridge MD carries ESPN. Or you can just do what I did, and break down and get XM. Nothing better that sports radio on an xm signal. Clear as a bell.

Obviously, there's nothing wrong with being positive, and that's easy now, given that this team is coming off a strong season, and looks to do even better this year, but it hasn't always been like that, and I wonder what the folks on Radio Snyder are going to say in the distant, distant future ( ) if the 'skins have an off-year or two. I remember how bleak the future was looking following Spurrier's second season, before he announced he was quitting and Gibbs was lured back; the team had further slid to 5-11, Spurrier was obviously in over his head, and it looked like the whole team had just given up. I don't know how'd you spin that mess in a positive way. Would the staff at a team-owned station just say "Hey, wait'll next year - we're definitely going to turn it around then!! Book your hotel for the Super Bowl!!"? Positive BS is still BS.

I also remember the '04 season QB controversy, when Brunell had that badly-injured hamstring (unknown at the time) and wasn't even completing 50% of his passes - lots of the media, including several voices on WTEM (I don't remember specifically what Riggo himself said), were calling for Gibbs to bench Brunell and try Ramsey (which I agreed with). They weren't disagreeing with the coach just to stir up controversy, but because a reasonable case could be made Brunell wasn't getting it done and Ramsey should get a shot. Would they have said the same if the team owned the station? I don't know.
