When the Redskins begin training camp July 31, Campbell will be a different quarterback. Last preseason, he was tentative as expected. This preseason, Campbell's expectations of himself will be higher and the coaches expect a more polished player.
Something tells me Fan Appreciation Day is going to be hell this year.
RIP 21

He means that training dates are usually announced with one day being where the whole team just shows up and reports to coaches and officials. The other day is when they actually begin practice.

The team is set to unofficially report on july 30th.
That's a Sunday and you can probably count on practices running from Monday through Friday (July 31-Aug.4). FAD was on the Friday last year, so that would be the 4th... setting up for the scrimmage with the Ravens on the 5th, the 6th off, and then likely 3 or 4 more public practices the next week from Monday through Wednesday or Thursday.
That's not official, but that's pretty much the way they usually do it and probably what will shake out. Last year there were usually only one public practice a day as well.
I'll post the camp schedule as soon as it's available.
We will also have a full printable camp guide for you to take with you, so stay tuned...

It's always great to meet the crew. I've been buried with the site makeover etc but I'll be done this week and I'll get right on some camp planning.
NC has already started a brilliant printable camp guide for you guys to print off and bring with you to camp and follow along.

This year, my wife and I will spend our anniversary vacation "touring" the DC area, and learning more about the area where we live. She doesn't know this yet, but we will certainly be "touring" Ashburn, VA on or around our anniversary (august 1). Perhaps we'll run into some of you.
why are we last to report to camp? Do we just need less practice? Some teams, like Philly have rookies reporting as much as 10 days earlier than we do... Philly's probably a bad example because they play in the HOF game, but most teams report at least a few days before us...

I some lines of work it's the answer to the age old question... WIIFM? (Whats In It For Me?).
That's what players ask when coaches ask for 100% participation in OTA and off-season workouts.
Gibbs got a little more than 96% attendance, the team gets a longer vaction than anyone else.
Just like you notice these little things... So do the players

so you're saying the coach decides when camp starts? I always thought the league had a hand in it...

The league has its hand in it--you can't run training camp from June until late August, for instance--but I think aside from a few perameters the coaches decide when it starts and how intense the work will be. Other than that, the coaches can only work with the other allowed off-season training sessions and "voluntary" workouts. . .
