Tennessee sends McNair to Ravens

The Titans ended their stalemate with former MVP quarterback Steve McNair by trading him to the Ravens on Wednesday.

So that leaves the Titans with:

Billy Volek,
Matt Mauck,
Vince Young, and
Cody Hodges

at QB?

Hmmmm. Do you think they're gonna go with Volek or push Young into the starting lineup ASAP?

I think the Titans did not think things through on day one of the draft. Everything I am reading says that Young still seems to be a one read QB... and that won't fly very far in this league. Can he learn to read coverages? Can he learn to run through a receiver progression? Time will tell, but I don't see it happening this year.

The Titans are in trouble. I have to think they consider this a rebuilding year.

I keep hearing that Billy Volek is considered one of the best bak-ups in the NFL. He will be the care taker at QB until Young is ready.

What I don't get is now just because Baltimore got McNair, they are now all of the sudden Super Bowl contenders?!?

The Ravens were down right terribe last year and I mean McNair is good, but he's no Tom Brady.

I think Baltimore may have been hobbled by some injuries last year, or people fresh off injuries. That's still a dangerous team and now they have a talented veteran QB with something to prove. I think Ray Lewis still has a ton of talent. I think they drafted well, especially the Ngata pick, and are going to be a force to be reckoned with, despite having Billick as their head coach.

Speaking of injuries, hasn't McNair had a ton? What are the odds he plays the whole season? Baltimore will definitely be interesting this season - could be much better, could be just as bad.

Dumbest thing the Titans have ever done.

Ever.

Alienating the best player that the franchise has known (I'm talking Titans, not Oilers, so no Earl Campbell, please) and then dumping him off to a hated rival?

Not to mention he really was the perfect guy to mentor a project like Vince Young (and make no mistake about it, he is a project) for obvious reasons.

This throws a major monkey wrench into the development of Young and probably sets the Titans back another year or two.

My bold prediction is they take the Texans place at #1 in April of next year.

Me, too. I think he's got great potential...until, of course, he's not sneaking up on teams anymore. He'll be good as a stop-gap, as you wrote...but how do you replace a McNair ? Even an aging, oft-injured McNair ?

hahahaha!!! I think I know you dude! Hey, all I have got to say is, "We'll see" ... well, at least for now. I really think there should be some emphasis put on the 24 million dollar cap hit Tennessee would have been stung with. We had to deal McNair... that's just the way things go. I do think the FO handled it poorly... but I'm not sure there was a good way... I think Vince Young will shock you. I was a huge supporter of the choice before the draft and I'm very happy with the pick.

How long are you willing to wait for the payoff? The kid comes from a single read system. Can he learn a progression?

You are absolutely right... we'll see. Well... if nothing else, he may make one heck of a possession receiver. :wink:

Young will be fine. McNair was too expensive too keep on. The Titans would of liked to be able to work something but they would have had to make cuts at other positions. I'm glad we have Young. I'd rather have Young than McNair. In regards to your question... I'll wait as long as it takes.
