LaVar in NY
Press question: I know you haven't had LaVar on the field, but do you notice how he is working here and does that excite you knowing that?
Answer from Coach Tom Coughlin: Oh, I think he has been a really good, enthusiastic, energetic shot in the arm for this whole team, to be honest with you. He is a guy who has great enthusiasm. He enjoys what he is doing. He shares with others his enjoyment. He can be verbal, he can be challenging down there. He has come in - he has run well, he has done a good job in the strength program. I think, as I said, that you definitely notice that he is in the building and has energized some of the guys in the offseason; it has become very competitive and I look forward to that transcending over to the field.

LA has done a lot of good things lately.... Mostly OFF the field so this isn't news.
Hogwash = Redskins News
Around the League = other team News
LA is not a redskin and the Gints fit that same mold, so post in the right thread or the next time I'm locking it

Funny, his previous "old school" coach wanted the same thing, but it didn't happen.
Hopefully, this coach has more patience for him. After all his potential is so high. He could really make a difference for the Giants.

Hey Justice H, go ahead and say what you are really thinking but don't want to articulate, i.e., that you have visions of a rejuvenated LaVar running loose in the Redskins backfield with a bead on a QB who can't move too fast. You know in your heart that this was one player you guys really didn't want to lose, especially to an NFC East arch rival. You'll feel better after you get it off your chest.

I'll be the first to admit that he's a playerr I wanted to lose....about three years ago. Those of you who've been aroudn longer than trollchaje know what I'm talking about.
My hard-line stance against Lavar may have softened with Joe's arrival, but I cannot say I wasn't glad that he left.

Back and better than ever!

Oh yeah: he can be verbal alright. And challenging too. That's when the problems usually start.

Look many of us here wanted things to work out better than they did. Lavar never lived up to the potential he had coming out of college. Is he a good LB ? Yes. Is he worth the $$$ we were paying him? No.
Please don't come running in here every time LA makes a sack or has a big hit, we know what he's capable of.
But know this LA may be the best LB on your team, but he wasn't on this team!

I have been wondering why Lavar has gotten such a bad reputation, maybe some of the negative people here could explain. Yes he had alot of front office problems about his playing time and his contract, However when he was let onto the field did he not give 110% in the seasons he was here. Im not saying he didnt make some mistake's and missed some tackles, you be hard pressed to find any player who hasn't made mistake, as well as ourselves in anything we do but Lavar was not the reason the Redskins failed since he arrived. He was and will probably continue to be a stand up guy and give his 110% unfortunatly with the G-Men and as happy as some of you are he's gone and I can only hope he doesnt hurt us playing for a division rival.

My father told me long ago to respect the opinions of only those that I respect. That being said, I see no reason to even reply to this comment further than this statement. It's not worth my time or energy.

No one will see "Lavar running loose in the Redskins backfield with a bead on a QB" because we'll be watching Clinton Portis run right past him because he didn't play the run first. And you know the 4 letter network won't show the replay, but you'll always have your "what if"

I'm not a negative person but I'll give it a shot...
After Lavar was drafted he was marketed as "Mr Redskin" beore the rookie contract was up, then he reworked that and signed a contract that made him a "Redskin for Life". That was off the field and early in his career, on the field he definately gave 100% even when others around him weren't. Lavar was Mr. Redskin during the worst times to be a Redskin,
... No one is denying this at the same time Lavar was often out of postion or over running a play, although he may have been trying to make a play. It would hurt more than it would help. Sometime he may have been covering for others (M.Carrier, B.Smith, J.Trotter... there were some freelancers on those teams), but he never called anyone out for it. That was honorable.
Best I can tell is when Champ Bailey left Lavar changed, He was still Mr. Redskin off the field but on the field he was different. He was still caught out of postion on occasion but not as much. Was it because he wasn't covering for others anymore, because he was moved closer to the line of scrimage? I don't know. Some say it was because his relationship with "the Danny" changed. Again I don't know, what I do know is if you play on that level and go anythink less than 100% you're going to get hurt (pull something, turn a knee, who knows but it'll happen). Mr. Redskin didn't changed only Lavar.
Enter the Postons and their claim on missing money from a loction where there was money found (we've been there), this pretty much assured the Redskin for Life wouldn't be. Lavar really never got back on the field full time after that so many are left with him arguing with coaches, contract disputes, injuries and of course the hit o TA.
He'd still be on the team if he hadn't given up the $4.3 million but would be more than likely gone at months end. Lavar bumped heads with the wrong guy. he bumps heads with Joe Gibbs. Joe don't do bumbing heads so this is where we are.
Lavar is not a Redskin but he has had more thread on this site since he has stopped producing on the field than he did when he was. Now that he is a Gint he is trying to become "Mr. Around the League", not going to happen. I wish Lavar all the luck in the world minus two games a year, sad part is it's the two games that he'll need all the luck he can get, if he makes it out of the trainers room

When the avatars return, you'll see even more of him.
It's hard to let go of a man whose mug was the face of your team for so long, but look at it this way. Lavar is a tangible link to the days of futility. An effigy of our always untapped "potential".
I'm able to see it as part of the process of moving on.
